May 20, 201015 yr ^ Yeah I caught that and that may be the explanation, it just doesnt seem like a good reason to undergo the arduous process of relocating a street that you may not even want. Its not like Merhing Way will be used as a State Route or for the transportation of haz/mat. If they are required by the State to maintain it as a State Route then why not work with the department of transportation to lift that designation? It just seems silly to invest so much time and money into relocating the street, when it doesnt seem to serve a purpose within the Park. They have to keep it because its a state route and one of the only routes trucks can use to get through the downtown area. For example, I used to operate heavy machinery and when we would need to travel from the westside of downtown to the east we had to use Mehring Way.
May 20, 201015 yr So right in the middle of the parks is going to be a truck route? That should fit in nicely with the parks.
May 20, 201015 yr It's not even in the middle of the park, it forms the northern boundary of the park. There really isn't much traffic on it anyway, you're worrying about nothing.
May 20, 201015 yr What's the difference between seeing trucks and seeing cars? They're vehicles anyway. I don't think it will ruin anyone's park experience or lives because big trucks happen to pass through. jjakucyk is correct anyway, there's not a lot of traffic there to begin with.

May 21, 201015 yr New retail leasing team picked for The Banks By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn, Cincinnati Enquirer, May 20, 2010 Atlanta-based Carter and The Dawson Co. have tapped Hyde Park-based Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate to lead the retail leasing efforts for the Banks project's first phase, which includes roughly 80,000 square feet of retail space. The Cincinnati office of CB Richard Ellis will continue to manage leasing for a planned office tower and boutique hotel that are part of later phases in the project, said Trent Germano, vice chairman of Carter. "Jeffrey R. Anderson has a very focused and successful team that brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the project," Germano said. "Adding them to our team will be a great benefit"
May 21, 201015 yr The rendering in the article looks a bit better than the last one I saw. Not really wow, but fine.
May 21, 201015 yr Banks garage set to open By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • May 21, 2010 A portion of the massive new public parking garage at The Banks project on the riverfront could open to the public by the first weekend in June. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100521/BIZ01/305210034/Banks+garage+set+to+open All you need to know about the garage, its size, its entrances, etc. And some info about the park
May 21, 201015 yr $75 was what it was at the Freedom Center (which was sold out for monthly parkers), so I doubt they would lower it (despite the added supply). the thing is, the Reds really jack up the price for parking beneath GABP during events....the Freedom Center not quite so much. Hopefull the new spaces will hew more to Freedom Center price structure.
May 21, 201015 yr I figured it would be $75 or so but deep down I was hoping somehow it'd be cheaper. My $50 lot won't be around soon so I'll have to bump it up to a $75 lot. Don't feel like paying an extra $25 a month. I wonder how they'll arrange it for Reds games now, or at least when the entire structure is done. Right now they close certain lots and make you park elsewhere, but soon there will just be one large lot. Maybe they'll let you park there but make you pay extra. Personally it drives me nuts that customers paying monthly have to pay again for Reds games.
May 21, 201015 yr Y'all could live in Chicago. I paid $295 for my home spot, work paid $349 for my work spot. That lasted about six months, then I went car-free when I convinced them I could get to suburban meetings with a ZipCar.
May 21, 201015 yr And keep in mind that cheap parking causes a further eroding of urban development and makes it more difficult to encourage transit use. The need to provide parking is one of the single biggest reasons it's so difficult to get affordable housing in downtown areas in the first place.
May 22, 201015 yr Do you think it will follow that general arc outlined by the rent a fence in the second pic? Am I asking a really obvious question? LOL
May 22, 201015 yr Based on the plans I've seen and the way the existing road lines up, I hope not. Rather than the continuous arc we see with the fence, the road should take a gentle s-curve through here.
May 23, 201015 yr Based on the plans I've seen and the way the existing road lines up, I hope not. Rather than the continuous arc we see with the fence, the road should take a gentle s-curve through here. Hmmm. Looks like it is pretty close by my eye. Maybe not exactly in line with that fence since, I assume, they will be bringing in some fill to raise the road. ???
May 23, 201015 yr The only place they seem to need any fill is to the east of the suspension bridge, to get the new road up to the existing intersection with Main Street. I suspect the area in the picture won't change much at all in elevation, since it has to pass under the bridge approach where I was standing.

June 9, 201015 yr ^not me. I'll take a Fox Sport Grill over that anyway. Since FOX Sports shows nearly all the Reds games, it would be a good match.
June 9, 201015 yr ^ I never understood the fascination that some have had with the ESPN Zone. Have you ever actually been to one? They suck. Think Planet Hollywood meets sports bar.
June 9, 201015 yr Just a quick FYI - The Downtown Residents Council will have someone speak about The Banks (probably someone from Carter and Dawson) at the next membership meeting on July 13th. http://ilivedowntown.com "Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." - Warren Buffett

June 9, 201015 yr Cincinnati is a powerhouse when it comes to branding and consumer products. It also has a disproportionately large local restaurant and food scene that many residents assume exist in all 2-Million metros, but that's really not true. Except for maybe one national signature chain to bring in the tourists at first, I think The Banks restaurant and entertainment lineup could go all homegrown. And get away with it. An example: Chi-nnati's Pizza. It's not the best deep dish I've ever had by a long shot, but it's decent, and they have a great atmosphere. It's just buried in Kenwood and could totally fill up with the post-event crowd at The Banks.

June 10, 201015 yr Will The Banks 'Falter'? Ohio Supreme Court backs firing riverfront lawyers - Reds owner Bob Castellini says 'Banks will falter,' blames politics Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters won a two-year legal fight with the county commission over that board's use of an outside law firm for riverfront development issues. The county has paid Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease about $17 million over the last decade, angering Deters and judges. That set in motion a legal battle that pitted commissioners against Deters and the judges, and resulted in Wednesday's Ohio Supreme Court decision in which the court said because judges signed off on the hiring of the outside law firm in 2002 they had the right to fire them. cont. June 10, 201015 yr This could affect future phases though. Deters was apparently the one that helped craft the Paul Brown Stadium lease, a lease that has been nothing but an impediment and drain on the County. I am not so much concerned with the dismissal of the firm as I am that Deters, a long time critic of the project, will now handle legal matters regarding the Banks project. That means ample opportunities to take a project that is coming in under cost and ahead of schedule and turn it into Kenwood Towne Place. “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
June 10, 201015 yr I love how Joe Deters alludes to this law firm bringing in county money and being accountable to nobody, when the man has been nothing but a local career politician since he graduated from his local high school and went to his local college and then his local law school. That's a dynamic, efficient businessman if I've ever seen one. Oh and look, COAST is involved in this whole thing, too. What a surprise.
