They close at 10pm now after a stabbing or some other incident in 2009 so our tradition has come to an end and it's moved to the much more innocuous Murphy's Pub.

Wait, La Crepe Nanou currently has only one location and their second will be at The Banks?  If I'm not reading that wrong, that is very interesting.  And is Huey's a brand new chain?  Are they affiliated with any other chain?

 

 

Also, I've always thought of Cincinnati as the German version of New Orleans.  Maybe La Crepe Nanou should change their name to Die Krepp Nanzig for its Zinzinnati location.  :)

Actually guys-- All three of those places have Louisiana roots.  Two are from New Orleans, the third has its headquarters in Baton Rouge.  Very interesting...

And not everyone wants to shop for those "unique" gifts in OTR. There are plenty of great, non-chain places in Lebanon, Madeira, West Chester Twp. and other more suburban locales. The best antiques are in these areas or small towns too!

If you want to start a bar down there, you can get a liquor license for like $2,344. I would imagine you would have to sign a rather more expensive lease with Carter Dawson however.

Holy Grail signs Banks lease

The owners of locally based Holy Grail restaurant and bar have signed a lease for 6,000 square feet of space at The Banks riverfront development.

 

Jim Moerhing, a partner in the ownership group for Holy Grail – which has locations in Corryville and Delhi Township – said the new restaurant will open in space just across from the Reds Hall of Fame on Joe Nuxhall Way.

So far, the restaurant is the only locally owned operation to lease space in The Banks, says Moehring, who is teaming with Cincinnati natives Don Andres, Paul Goebel and Tom Heitker.

I know nothing about The Holy Grail restaurant but I like it already.

Holy Grail is great.  Good food, decent beer, great atmosphere. A place like this is needed for The Banks.

 

As for CPK, I used to eat it when in California and I hate to say it, but I liked it better than Dewey's.  Dewey's is over priced and skimp you on the toppings.  They do usually have a good beer list though.  I can't remember what CPK usually serves in terms of beer.

Awesome photos! What is that big hole in the parking lot construction next to the Freedom Center?

^ from up close there are cement blocks with rebar sticking out of them deep in the round.  Earlier in the construction they were digging up deep blocks of cement with rebar sticking out of them(looked just like these) closer to rosa parks street and breaking them up to remove them.  I'm guessing this is more of the same-- I don't know what it's from/why it was there but it's older and seems to be being removed.

I think it would be awesome if the first place that streetcar tracks were put in the ground was at the Banks-- Perhaps at "opening" (late march/early april right?) the tracks and shelters would already be up... what a moment that would be...

 

I know this is highly unlikely and probably not feasible... but it would be awesome for both the banks and the streetcar.

Oldenberg opens the Holy Grail Brewery and Grill  in Corryville adjacent to the campus of the University of Cincinnati. It is located at 13 W. Charlton Street and is housed in a 100 year old building. Oldenberg purchases a 5-bbl brew house from the closed Lazy Hound Restaurant and Brewery in Pittsburg, Kansas and installs it in the brewpub. This brewpub closes in 1998. In 2004 the Holy Grail reopens but no brewing activity takes place here.

Great find! I remember when it was a brewery but had forgotten it was ran by Oldenberg.

The lesson to be learned from that website: Don't start a microbrewery unless you want to go broke.

The Banks riverfront development will officially welcome Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill this summer, developers announced on Wednesday.

 

The 16,000 square-foot restaurant, to be located on Second Street, will serve as an entertainment venue with live music, dancing, “Toby” a mechanical bull, and Southern-style fare.

 

 

They will have all the Oklahoma classics including freedom fries!  :laugh:
