December 15, 201014 yr They close at 10pm now after a stabbing or some other incident in 2009 so our tradition has come to an end and it's moved to the much more innocuous Murphy's Pub.
December 23, 201014 yr Confirmed Tenants at the Banks: 1. Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grille 2. The Holy Grail 3. Le Crepe Nanou (French Bistro) 4. Huey's 24/7 Diner 5. The Wine Loft

The Wine Loft To me, this seems like a pretty good start. Here are the web sites for the bottom three... http://www.hueys247diner.com/main/index.php?page=home http://www.lacrepenanou.com/ http://www.thewineloft.net/main/
December 23, 201014 yr Huey's is definitely a good look for the Banks. It's also something desperately needed here in Cincinnati.

December 23, 201014 yr And it's good to see some New Orleans influence in there with Le Crepe Nanou and Huey's 24/7 Diner. River city love! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 23, 201014 yr how interesting. this is such good news to read. now lets get some retail mix in here and we're really talking.
December 23, 201014 yr Wait, La Crepe Nanou currently has only one location and their second will be at The Banks? If I'm not reading that wrong, that is very interesting. And is Huey's a brand new chain? Are they affiliated with any other chain?
December 23, 201014 yr Also, I've always thought of Cincinnati as the German version of New Orleans. Maybe La Crepe Nanou should change their name to Die Krepp Nanzig for its Zinzinnati location. :)
December 23, 201014 yr Actually guys-- All three of those places have Louisiana roots. Two are from New Orleans, the third has its headquarters in Baton Rouge. Very interesting...

December 24, 201014 yr From the Enquirer article: "Huey’s would be located in a space across from a California Pizza Kitchen", Doyle said. So I guess California Pizza Kitchen will also be part of The Banks?
December 24, 201014 yr ^Cool news, if true, because I don't think we have one of those yet. I still prefer Dewey's, but that would certainly be a nice addition.
December 26, 201014 yr Ugh, CPK is disgusting. Again, I'll still be shopping in OTR. Whatever those low-class suburbanites want, they can have on the banks...I don't care. It'll bring them into the city, after that they can wander North and find civilization.

It'll bring them into the city, after that they can wander North and find civilization. I don't think CPK is disgusting at all. Low class suburbanites.... If they're so low class, why is the city trying so desperately to draw them in? Try telling someone from Indian Hill, Mariemont, or Wyoming how 'low class' they are. I'm all for being a city booster and sticking up for the city, but to truly be successful we have to think regionally.
December 27, 201014 yr And not everyone wants to shop for those "unique" gifts in OTR. There are plenty of great, non-chain places in Lebanon, Madeira, West Chester Twp. and other more suburban locales. The best antiques are in these areas or small towns too!

It'll bring them into the city, after that they can wander North and find civilization. Whoops, sorry about that. I stumbled on this thread last night after a long Christmas Day filled with bickering about how crime-ridden Milwaukee is. I was a little more than fed up last night. I don't really like CPK, but I'm very happy with the progress at The Banks.

December 27, 201014 yr To paraphrase Deng Xiaoping "No matter if it is a white cat or a black cat; as long as it can catch mice, it is a good cat."
December 28, 201014 yr CPK has good soup. How is that for on topic? I just had some fantastic oyster soup in Annapolis. How's THAT for off topic. Secretly I'm hoping to get "moderated" by MTS or Atlas. We'll see who steps out of their bounds first.
December 28, 201014 yr Hey how about we talk about the Banks a bit more instead of placing bets on how far off topic we can take the discussion? Thanks!! “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche

December 28, 201014 yr If you want to start a bar down there, you can get a liquor license for like $2,344. I would imagine you would have to sign a rather more expensive lease with Carter Dawson however.
December 29, 201014 yr Holy Grail signs Banks lease By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • December 29, 2010 The owners of locally based Holy Grail restaurant and bar have signed a lease for 6,000 square feet of space at The Banks riverfront development. Jim Moerhing, a partner in the ownership group for Holy Grail – which has locations in Corryville and Delhi Township – said the new restaurant will open in space just across from the Reds Hall of Fame on Joe Nuxhall Way. • Follow EnqBusiness on Twitter So far, the restaurant is the only locally owned operation to lease space in The Banks, says Moehring, who is teaming with Cincinnati natives Don Andres, Paul Goebel and Tom Heitker. - Two new websites are up with the second one showing renderings: http://www.holygrailbanks.com/ http://www.holygraildowntown.com/ "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
December 30, 201014 yr Holy Grail is great. Good food, decent beer, great atmosphere. A place like this is needed for The Banks. As for CPK, I used to eat it when in California and I hate to say it, but I liked it better than Dewey's. Dewey's is over priced and skimp you on the toppings. They do usually have a good beer list though. I can't remember what CPK usually serves in terms of beer.
December 30, 201014 yr I know nothing about The Holy Grail restaurant but I like it already. There's a Holy Grail up in Corryville, just off Short Vine. Lots of college kids, naturally.
December 31, 201014 yr It actually traces it lineage back to the micro-brewery bar pub movement of the mid-90s, but I'm not sure if it is still does any of that these days.

January 1, 201114 yr Anybody got any pics of the progress of the Banks, haven't been down there in a while.

January 2, 201114 yr Awesome photos! What is that big hole in the parking lot construction next to the Freedom Center?
January 2, 201114 yr ^ from up close there are cement blocks with rebar sticking out of them deep in the round. Earlier in the construction they were digging up deep blocks of cement with rebar sticking out of them(looked just like these) closer to rosa parks street and breaking them up to remove them. I'm guessing this is more of the same-- I don't know what it's from/why it was there but it's older and seems to be being removed.
January 2, 201114 yr I think it would be awesome if the first place that streetcar tracks were put in the ground was at the Banks-- Perhaps at "opening" (late march/early april right?) the tracks and shelters would already be up... what a moment that would be... I know this is highly unlikely and probably not feasible... but it would be awesome for both the banks and the streetcar.
January 2, 201114 yr These construction photos are downright impressive. The train of Cincinnati development rolls on.
January 2, 201114 yr Awesome photos! What is that big hole in the parking lot construction next to the Freedom Center? The hole is for recently poured building core footings for future phases.
January 3, 201114 yr It actually traces it lineage back to the micro-brewery bar pub movement of the mid-90s, but I'm not sure if it is still does any of that these days. I found this: 1996 Oldenberg opens the Holy Grail Brewery and Grill in Corryville adjacent to the campus of the University of Cincinnati. It is located at 13 W. Charlton Street and is housed in a 100 year old building. Oldenberg purchases a 5-bbl brew house from the closed Lazy Hound Restaurant and Brewery in Pittsburg, Kansas and installs it in the brewpub. This brewpub closes in 1998. In 2004 the Holy Grail reopens but no brewing activity takes place here. http://www.queencitychapter.com/brewinghistory/cintibrewinghistorymicros.html
January 3, 201114 yr Great find! I remember when it was a brewery but had forgotten it was ran by Oldenberg. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

January 5, 201114 yr Press release: TOBY KEITH’S I LOVE THIS BAR AND GRILL TO OPEN AT THE BANKS ON CINCINNATI’S RIVERFRONT Enquirer coverage: Toby Keith's place to open in summer By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • January 5, 2011 The Banks riverfront development will officially welcome Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill this summer, developers announced on Wednesday. The 16,000 square-foot restaurant, to be located on Second Street, will serve as an entertainment venue with live music, dancing, “Toby” a mechanical bull, and Southern-style fare.
