On the Cagis site it states "This proposed garage is a part of the proposed new music venue. This is major amendment to the Banks Final Development Plan and needs to go through the process." Hopefully we actually get some movement soon because I think the music venue will really help for year-round street activity.

Jay Hanselman is reporting today that an agreement has been reached between the county and city to begin work on the new music venue.

Feel like this is a new rendering:

Cool. Maybe they'll start working on getting Phase III together then...

So will the remaining lots be developed into a parking garage or is there still going to be a surface lot somewhere?

The garage is already complete.  The remaining lots (1, 13, 24, 25) are hopefully going to be dense developments.

In order to get the Bengals to sign on, they agreed to buy the Hilltop Concrete lot to the southwest of PBS and build out a tailgating area there.

It seems to me that another 150ish room hotel would be a layup to bookend down by PBS and add more people dining out in the area.

Lots 1, 13 and 25 still will have garages built to sustain development on top of them. So the garage is not complete per se.

Here's more info on the Hilltop situation. Looks like the IDC that went before Planning Commission last Friday was an attempt to slow down the relocation.

I bet if Hilltop moves, the already long-shot Price Hill Landing Park gets nixed for the new Hilltop site.  According to the article, they want land in Lower Price Hill, and it seems like the only viable Lower Price Hill land available on the river would be the PHL site. What an FU that would be to the neighborhood. Right after 'officially' adopting their master plan.

Council restricts development on riverfront site, could affect music venue

By Chris Wetterich  – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

The Cincinnati City Council passed a measure on Wednesday that could delay a move by Hilltop Companies from its riverfront site and potentially delay the construction of a music venue at the Banks.

Hamilton County plans to build a parking lot at the current Hilltop site south of Paul Brown Stadium to replace the tailgating space used by Cincinnati Bengals fans when a music venue is built adjacent to PBS. Fans currently tailgate on those lots, which will become parking garages and the podium on which the music venue would be built.

County OKs Banks music venue deal, outlines potential opening date

Hamilton County commissioners approved an agreement with the city on Thursday to finance the construction of parking garages needed in order to build a music venue at the Banks, with the goal of opening it by August 2020.

Commissioners Todd Portune and Denise Driehaus voted for the agreement. Commissioner Stephanie Summerow Dumas voted against it, but did not say why. All three are Democrats. Details of the agreement can be found here.

The county hopes the music venue, which will be developed by Music and Event Management Inc., a subsidiary of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, will boost retail and restaurants that have opened on the Banks, the mixed-use development along the city’s riverfront that includes apartments, bars, restaurants and General Electric’s Global Operations Center.

With the other MEMI venue near the river already being called "Riverbend Music Center", what do we think they will call this one? Maybe go retro and call it "Riverfront Music Center"?

That would guarantee people showing up at the wrong place for concerts into perpetuity

Riverview is what is shown in the rendering, but like the famous "Chipelto" that might mean nothing.

Hopefully the metal cladding is higher quality than Shakespeare Theater which would look a little cheap for such a prominent location on the riverfront. Overall I like it and I can't wait for Daft Punk to come to the Riverview in 2020.

Here’s what the Banks music venue will look like

The developers of the Banks music venue released new renderings of the project last week as Hamilton County commissioners approved a financing deal for the garages needed to bring it out of the Ohio River’s floodplain.

Hopefully yes. I think a beer garden in the summer on lot 28 would be awesome.

I wish I could say it would be something different, but since its the same architecture firm and same studio within the firm working on this project as the Shakespeare Theater, id say be ready for another shitty looking exterior facade. GBBN discovered what they think looks cool and modern and will most likely try to use it over and over again... #onetrickpony

The quality of the building materials usually has more to do with the client wanting to value-engineer the building down to save money, not because the architect is intentionally choosing low quality building materials. We'll see if MEMI is willing to spend some money to get a nice looking result, or if we're going to end up with PNC Pavilion at The Banks.

Is Lot 28 going to be private property? Also, when are we getting a Banks DORA?  With the stadiums and Freedom Way, it is a prime location for one.  Is it that they don't want these people spilling over into the riverfront parks with their bottles and cans and trashing the place?

Council votes on Banks music venue, radio center

After months of consideration and negotiation, the Cincinnati City Council on Wednesday approved a plan to finance the construction of the garages needed to build a music venue at the Banks.

Under the deal, Hamilton County will pay for the construction of the garages, the cost of which is usually split 50-50, and the city will pay back the county later. More details can be found here.

Hamilton County commissioner: ‘Totally committed’ to music venue at the Banks

Shortly after Corporex Cos. LLC, AEG Presents and PromoWest announced they will be building a $40 million indoor/outdoor music venue at the Ovation site in Newport, Hamilton County officials assured they still plan to move forward with a music venue at the Banks.

Hamilton County Commission President Denise Driehaus released a statement that says “we are totally committed to moving forward on the music venue at the Banks.”

“The venue fills a niche in our market, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year who will patronize the retailers and restaurants at the Banks. An additional venue in Newport does not change our plans.”

City rejects Hilltop solution on Banks music venue

BanksMusicVenue.png

The city of Cincinnati has rejected a proposal by Hilltop Companies that would move its concrete plant, storage area and barge terminal from its current site just south of Paul Brown Stadium, allowing Hamilton County to build a parking lot there, which would make way for a music venue at the Banks.

The county needs to build a parking lot at Hilltop’s current site to allow for space for Cincinnati Bengals tailgating, so the music venue can be built on a current, surface parking lot adjacent to the stadium, under a county agreement with the Bengals.

On April 30, Hilltop proposed the city convey up to 14 acres of riverfront property south of Mehring Way and east of Gest Street currently leased to Cincinnati Bulk Terminals to Hilltop. If Hilltop had that 14 acres along the riverfront, it could build its concrete plant, storage facility and loading terminal all in one spot. If it got 10 acres, it would locate the plant along Mehring Way and Freeman Avenue south of West Sixth Street.

That space always struck me as a good place to put a fancy cafe with some outdoor dining overlooking the Schmidlapp Event Lawn. Puzzling that it's been vacant since the building was built.

Considering that space has never been filled I would hope the rent has been dropped to entice someone.  A business paying 70% of the old asking price is better then no business.

I'm surprised Cranley didn't ask them to explicitly set this stuff up along Main instead just to block the streetcar.

https://local12.com/news/local/hamilton-county-working-to-keep-skystar-wheel-here-for-up-to-10-years

Actually excited for this. For some reason something tells me skywheel newport will not happen.

Is it sad that the thought of Skystar leaving our skyline would upset me more than the hudepohl smoke stack/brewery being demolished?

The ferris wheel adds flair to our skyline and makes our city look modern at first glance. It just fits so we'll with our skyline that it would feel awkward to see it leave.

Agreed, that spot on the Banks felt so empty before it showed up.

That's the real problem.  The block of the banks that is wasted with a grass lawn, and a dumb, "sing the city" or whatever that sign is.  Combined with how closed off and removed from the street the freedom center is, you end up with a block wide gap separating phase 1 of the banks from phase 2

I believe that area was left open so that the freedom center could have a clear view of the river.  Pretty dumb imo but that's what I had heard.  I'm sure the freedom center didn't care about a temporary ferris wheel going there but I'll be interested if they are ok with it staying for 10 years, or if they even have a say anymore.

If the ferris wheel does stay hopefully they do some work around that area to make it look nicer.  Right now it looks very temporary.

The slightly funny matter is that if you've ever been on the Skystar you'll notice that the views kinda suck because there is not much to look at on the KY side.

But the ferris whell structure itself makes our skyline spark so much that you can omit the fact that the ferris wheel in it's functionality is kinda 'meh"

Something better has got to go there besides the lawn and wheel.  We will look so dumb having two ferris wheels on the river.

I can't imagine that NURFC is mad about lines of people in front of their building waiting for a Ferris Wheel ride. I imagine they see it as an opportunity to get folks in the door who otherwise would not visit. It is an incredibly dense museum, with a lot of reading required (one of its shortcomings, IMO), but worth visiting multiple times.

I've said it before, if Skystar is going to be permanent, then it needs to be situated within a constructed landscape that integrates with the rest of Smale/Banks. It cannot look like a carnival ride that just pulled up a week ago.

Further, I think a wheel in Newport would still be successful. Just like the music venues: build them both.

People can start factions and shoot at each other from the wheels though. Like Command and Conquer or something

It brings alot of tourists from the outside region to for whatever reason.

Also you see alot ethnic families taking rides..it's an interesting mix.

not to be this guy... but also to be this guy... all families are ethnic. All else aside, I agree with you... there is tremendous diversity down at the Ferris Wheel. It's the Coca Cola of public attractions in this city right now.
