Walked through the Black Music Hall of Fame. It's overall a nice addition to the banks. I just hope they can properly maintain all the cool interactive features. Each stand plays music from the artist

As anticipated, it was a little cramped. I could tell there were a lot of people without a decent view (normal I suppose?). We managed to land a good spot right at the start of the hill. I think the v

^^I'd love to see most of that.  But there's already a nice movie theater and B&N at Newport on the Levee.  The streetcar system should eventually connect with Newport, and I'm not sure that we need 2 movie theaters or book stores that close together.  I'd rather see both of those closer to OTR, so at least there is some distance between them.  An IMAX would be nice at The Banks, though, since there isn't one in the area anymore.  Love the idea of a Lucky Strikes (they aren't strickly glow/cosmic-bowling are they?) and this city is in desperate need of a high end pool hall like Westminster's used to be.

Whoa ... after reading that article, I ...

  • Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge
  • Christian Moerlein Bier Haus (microbrewery)
  • Hard Rock Cafe
  • Flagship LaRossa's Pizzeria (two stories)
  • Boston Stoker
  • House of Blues

That's all I've got for now.

LMAO.

Ridiculous clip....

I want to see a nightclub on the river, something multi-level. I'd also like to see a local brewery pub, like Great Lakes brewing.

Agreed. The Cincy-elitists on this board like to jump NKY for poaching from Cincy. Is it time for Cincy to get revenge or work together for the good of the core?

Let's see some development in the Banks that's complimentary to what's already in NOTL and NKY, no need for redundant businesses that will guarantee failure for one of them.  Complimentary Examples: hotels(check), residential(check), IMAX(failed at NOTL, might fail at banks), pool hall, bowling, most of which has been proposed on this thread already.

::Jumps in bunker to wait out anti-NKY artillery::  :shoot:

I like the ESPN Zone, it has been hinted at since the inception of The Banks.  I think the Lucky Strikes would rock, especially with the loss of Jillian's in Covington.  I would like to see a full scale Jo-Beth, but in the core CBD, not The Banks.  The Christian Moerlein Bier Haus would be killer as well, and the full scale LaRosa's is a great idea for the masses that are uncomfortable outside of chain restaurants (and at least it is a Cincy chain).  But everything does need to have a destination feel, if not be a true destination for the area to realize its potential.

But Hard Rock Cafe?  Come on Rando you are better than that!  Those things were sort of cool when there were five of them, now there are a million and it is a tired concept from 20+ years ago.

The thing I hate about the NOTL theatre, is that you can't hear shit! I hate seeing movies there because it's a destination for 13 year olds to watch movies and go out on dates.

... I say bring one here more adult oriented!

Let's see how well an adult-oriented theater does in Cincinnati. Paging Larry Flint...

lol ... that's not what I meant, but I guess you can't make adults come to a theatre and keep kiddies out. Okay, that was stupid.

I absolutely love the idea of a W coming here though! If we lured one here, we'd be only be the 3rd Midwestern city to land one.

The reason I suggest that is not because I particularly think it would be cool, but because I think it would go a long way with many locals.  The arrival of an ESPN Zone or Hard Rock Cafe that they see elsewhere would be a sign of sorts that Downtown Cincinnati is "there" too.

I'd also like to see a local brewery pub, like Great Lakes brewing.

Christian Moerlein (and family) = Cincinnati

Great Lakes = Cleveland

I like Great Lakes and all, but I want a Christian Moerlein place first.  Maybe we can have both...we are a German town.  Christian Moerlein could do theirs in the biergarten style (ala Hofbrauhaus) and Great Lakes could keep their Ohio City style and open up a place here.

I'd toss in Sam Adams (since they actually brew their beer here) as a possible themed brewpub. I'd like to see a variation on Louisville's Bourbon bar. ESPN Zone would seem to be important with the stadiums and all.

It should not have any clothing stores - those if they ever returned should be focused on dt proper. The challenge is not cannibalize the energy of the Backstage District and Fountain Sq. - Columbus seems to have done this with the Arena District vis a vis quite a bit of dt.

Nightclubs, bars, shopping, most dining - Downtown

Themed restaurants, entertainment venues, major chains - The Banks (southern downtown)

Then use water taxis to connect all the activity happening on both sides of the river.  People could then choose between walking, water taxi, or streetcar potentially.

^ I wish they'd open up the brewery for tours

^^I've never quite gotten the water taxi concept.  I've never been on one, but I have waited for Anderson Ferry, and every time all I can think about is how I wish they'd replace it with a bridge.  Are they cool?

Although I wasn't even 10 the only time I've ever ridden a water taxi, it was fun as far as I remember. This was one of the water taxis that used to travel between the different sides of the Flats in Cleveland. With the old atmosphere the Flats had of partying and just having a good time, it was fun. A lot more fun than walking over a bridge. And this was a much smaller distance than across the Ohio so I think that it would be an interesting idea. The only problem is where it would be landing. Personally I think that Newport would be a whole heck of a lot better if the river side of the levee was developed into a simple but aesthetically pleasing park. Right now, it's quite unattractive, and walking down to Hooters and such is a very uneventful walk.

I couldn't agree more.  I think that's in the long term plan, but it certainly looks rough right now.  Up until a few years ago, the river side of the levee was the least of Newport's worries.  I get the impression that when the Newport Pavilion is complete and (if) the Ovation project takes off, Newport will be able to focus more on making their riverfront a little better.  The licking river park project should help with that, but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

Bringing this all back to The Banks, I'm really looking forward to this project.  I think that developing our riverfront(s) is a huge step toward making the urban core a more desirable place to live.

I'm hoping for a W hotel!

Banks developers think 'edgy'

Phase 1A could include boutique hotel

DOWNTOWN - Talksare under way with several boutique hoteliers and top-tier entertainment venues that developers hope will anchor the initial leg of The Banks riverfront development.

Developers say construction is on track to begin in June on the first major retail and residential phase of the project: an $80 million, 300-unit apartment complex that will include roughly 70,000 square feet of retail space.

Where has Skyline been in this mess!?!?!? We need a chili joint there for SURE!!!

Gross ... isn't the Skyline 3 blocks away enough?

I think the closest Skyline is by the library, if I am thinking correctly. And its super small/ the bums sit outside of it sometimes. ahah

There is a Skyline at 4th & Sycamore and a Gold Star in the Tower Place food court.  Those are the two that are closest.  There is also a Skyline at 7th & Vine and at Court & Vine.

There's plenty of Skyline's downtown. I don't see any need for one at The Banks. I honestly can't even picture one being at The Banks. Lets be honest - it's about the equivalent of there being a Penn Station at The Banks. It may be a home town favorite but we should at least start out with the best tenants possible. Four skylines downtown is overkill.

Close the rest of em!!! I want a delux skyline down there ASAP!!! YEAAAHH BOY!!

For me it depends on what The Banks becomes.  If it ends up being just a neighborhood or shopping/bar district, then a Skyline is just the 5th one downtown.  But if it becomes THE place that the city's visitors make sure they go (sort of like Navy Pier is to Chicago), then it would be nice to have Skyline and other local chains represented.  That way visitors can get a feel for what Cincinnati is really like, something they wouldn't get from some random upscale restaurant.

If Skyline does operate there, I'd like to see a building that goes all out with 2 or 3 levels of seating. Giant murals of nostalgic Cincinnati photos on the wall.

Yeah!! Hurra!

Oh, definitely.  If any local chain goes there, it had better be their premier location, whether it's Skyline, Graeter's, LaRosa's, Dewey's, Izzy's, Montgomery Inn, or some other chain that I overlooked.

I didn't know that Dewey's was local. Huh!

I didn't know that Dewey's was local. Huh!

Columbus based chain.  "Local" if you consider all of Ohio local.

You're probably thinking of Donatos, which is the Columbus based pizza chain.

Regardless, I would agree that a fast food type restaurant makes perfect sense at the Banks. Plenty of baseball games right across the street.

I didn't realize that Donatos was based in Columbus.  That's pretty cool.  Speaking of pizza, if a Dewey's does end up at The Banks, it would be nice if they had a walk up window where you could buy pizza by the slice.  I'd be more likely to try some of the wilder pizzas on their menu if I could just get one slice of it.

My bad on Dewey's.

I will say this...  they passed on a Fountain Square location.  The only place that would trump that might be the Banks.

If the Banks get's Dewey's then I'm going to be very curious as to what will happen to the Dewey's in newport on the levee.  That's like a favorite place to eat before and after the movies.

^That's exactly what it is, and as long as there is not a movie theater in The Banks, I'm inclined to think that it will stay that way. People aren't going to make two stops in the same night to eat and see a movie. They'll want to park and do both things in one location which is perfect for the Dewey's at Newport on the Levee. So I think that it wouldn't be harmed much, if at all, if another one opened across the river.

^I agree with that.  Just as Chipotle isn't worried about having locations in Newport and Fountain Square, I think Dewey's wouldn't need to be concerned either.  They're not destination restaurants in the way that, say, Montgomery Inn is.  If that were coming to The Banks, I'd be interested to see what happens to the boathouse.

Also, I love when people carry a whole Dewey's pizza into a movie.  I'm sure that AMC management just loves that!

Christian Moerlein (and family) = Cincinnati

Great Lakes = Cleveland

I like Great Lakes and all, but I want a Christian Moerlein place first.

When I wrote that, I meant a brewpub like GL has in Cleveland. I would never want a GL brewpub here before our own, superior beers! ;)

In speculating on which restuarants will go in Phase I, I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the restaurants that are in Atlantic Station.  I would think that these chains would be a pretty good bet for Phase I given the Carter/Dawson connection.  Here is a list of the restaurants in Atlantic Station:

http://atlanticstation.com/dine.php

Of these I would guess that the Geisha House (trendy chain-Sushi Bar/nightclub) and FoxSports Grill (Fox's vesion of an ESPNZone that is actually better than ESPNZone in my opinion) are the most likely because there isnt anything else like them in the CBD.  As mentioned by someone else, Ten Pin Alley would be awesome.

I have eaten at Rosa Mexicano in the Atlantic Station a few times.  It is very good, but a lot like Nada.  California Pizza Kitchen is too similar to Dewey's.  Moes is already in Cincy and it is garbage.

I stopped at California Pizza in downtown Chicago and it was friggin' gooooooooooood.  I'd be happy to see that.

Rosa Mexicana is okay, but over priced. The decor is similar to Nada, but the food doesn't touch Nada.

The list of restaurants is incredibly similar to the restaurants/venues in LA Live (basically LA's version of the banks near the Staples Center).  I hope we can make the Banks a little more unique.  I've been to Rosa Mexicana in DC, New York, and will probably eat at the one in LA when it opens.  Chains are good to raise the profile of a city, but lets not just make this a cliche project, let's make it exciting and unique.

I almost think you need the big chains to make the banks exciting. Save the local and unique restaurants for the CBD & OTR, give visitors and suburbanites a reason to venture off of the river.

Bonus What mode of transportation would be best to link all of these neighborhoods together?

a.) Motorcycles

b.) Segways

c.) NOTL Duck Boats

d.) Streetcars

I actually think the opposite.  The decor is not nearly as nice as Nada's, but the food is a little better.  Just my opinion.

Or how about water taxis?

I'll put my vote in for a FOX Sports Grill. It's like an upscale Vegas sportsbook with a bar in the middle, lounge area, good size dining room, and a shop.

^ Is that different from the FOX Sports restaurants that seem to be in every American airport?
