About 550 Acres if I remember, of which the University takes up about 135. May 29, 200718 yr Those temporary trailers at UH have been there at least since 1996 - when I got hired there, that was where you went to get your employee ID photo taken - great first impression! (Worse than that, there's an aluminum trailer-like building on the University of Toledo campus that was built as a temporary structure in 1965 to house the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and it's still there, albeit now known as the Student Classroom Annex)

May 29, 200718 yr i always thought the skyline view from the water was the best, but really that one is because you can get a lot more stuff in the foreground. thx esp for showing the art museum, i was very curious to see how that is coming along. seems to look good so far, but it is kind of hard to tell yet. otoh, if i never see a damn gehry rerun again fine.

George Will once said that building a stadium to house both football and baseball was like building a structure to be both a library and a foundry. I had to laugh when I read that, because White Building (where I spent a lot of time) was both. Good call on the Euc, during the early to mid 80s there was literally nothing else around, except the Olive Tree (mostly a Greek Hangout) and "The Spot" (imagine an attempt at designing a college bar conducted entirely by a committe of student-government geeks).

I thought it was up the elephant stairs in Carlton, though I could be wrong it's been entirely more years than I care to think about. I only lived on campus three semesters anyway, I was sick a lot and when I quit eating PFM (stood for Pretty F***ing Miserable) and started eating at home again that stopped.
June 28, 200717 yr Hey old folk ;) The Spot is on Northside, below Leutner and still has cheep beer and wings. About 3 or four years ago it was a good scene (for campus) but rapidly declined and now draws a ...... special ...... crowd At the top of the Elephant Stairs is the Rough Rider Room - same as the Spot except less people, less selection, less food But they have 75 cent drafts on Mondays :)

They are quite fetching! The Euc' is on it's way back. It's going through design review right now. And if you're not a fan of trailers, brace yourselves, there are quite a few more coming to the UH campus in the near future... BTW, you never did tell us why there aren't any more brick streets in Cleveland, Pope! Thanks for all the great pics! It's nice to see the place from someone else's eyes for a change.
June 28, 200717 yr ^oh, no more wood streets because of flammability issues and how damn quickly a fire could spread on them literally across blocks. (that's what I've always been told) does the design review include the inside too? Because if it does, I wont be going.
June 28, 200717 yr design review is exteriors only, but I'd venture to guess that they'll be doing a significant amount of interior work as well. You'll probably hate it, but all the people who never set foot in the old 'Euc will love it! I figured that was the story with the bricks... I just thought you might have a clever tale up your sleeve and that no one took the bait.

August 14, 200717 yr Me, too! I can't believe the Euclid Tavern is closed!! My heart is completely and instantaneously saddened. Any plans to revive that place?? That bar is as Cleveland as Cleveland bars come.

If those homes were on the east side of Cincinnati they'd go for over 400k. I love victorian farmhouses!!! Those houses are beautiful. That's how houses with siding should be done!

October 8, 200717 yr p.s. the building you refer to as Hannah Hosp is actually Lakeside. i used to work on the 3rd floor. Hanna is the bldg immediately to the left when viewing it from Adelbert.
October 8, 200717 yr since this opened up again recently, I thought I'd mention that the Euc's exterior is coming along nicely. Have a drive/ride/walk by and see for yourself. Or you can wait for my lazy butt to bring the camera out next time!
