Saturday, June 9 kickoff for Bike Aboard! and increased service to Akron

                            Northside Station

Peninsula, Ohio - Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and Cuyahoga Valley

National Park launch two new train initiatives this summer. Starting June

9, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is offering increased Akron service and

a special $2 Bike Aboard! fare for cyclists.

The new Akron service conveniently adds more days of the week and times to

the southern route. Trains depart Akron Northside Station on Wednesdays

through Sundays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3:15 p.m.

“This increased service to Akron now mirrors the excursion schedule from

Rockside Station in Independence,” said Steven Wait, President and CEO,

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. “Visitors can access the national park

from the north (Rockside Station) and the south (Akron Northside Station)

throughout the week. We are pleased to provide the same opportunities to

Akron area residents.”

Bike Aboard! allows cyclists to bike the Towpath Trail in one direction and

ride the rail in the other for just $2. This new initiative of becoming a

fitness commuter is a way to a healthier body and less congestion on the

roads. No guaranteed seats, no advance registration just you and your bike!

“We are very excited about this new program launched by Cuyahoga Valley

Scenic Railroad,” said John P. Debo, Jr., Superintendent, Cuyahoga Valley

National Park. “This greatly increases the opportunity for visitors to

experience more of the national park by rail and by bike. It provides

healthier options for visitors of all ages. A family of four can ride on

the train and bike along the Towpath Trail back to their car for under

$10.”

Join us on Saturday, June 9 to enjoy ranger-led programs as you journey

throughout the national park from the north or the south. Take time to

explore the shops of Peninsula. Enjoy child-friendly activities, museums,

costumed interpreters, and much more along the ride of your choice. The

festivities begin at Akron Northside Station at 9:30 a.m. and Rockside

Station at 9:45 a.m.

Akron Northside Station is located at 27 Ridge Street, off Howard Street in

Akron. Rockside Station is located on Old Rockside Road, one block north of

Rockside Road off Canal Road in Independence.
