Ohio developer builds on Pittsburgh success

Buoyed by success developing historic properties in Pittsburgh and other cities, developer John Ferchill is taking on what he terms his biggest challenge yet -- a $180 million building revitalization project in Detroit.

Ferchill is deeply involved in an effort to turn the abandoned 33-story Book-Cadillac hotel in the "Motor City" into a luxury hotel and condominium project. He hopes to use some lessons learned here to aid in that effort, he said in an interview Friday.

its odd how they're not doing anything in Cleveland on that scale...

^^Exactly what I was thinking.

Me three!

isn't Ferchill the one who wouldn't do any work in Cleveland because he didn't want to work with Mike White? If it is him I believe he is doing some small project in Cleveland, but maybe he'll eventually go grandiose on us.

May be, I'm not sure.  Wouldn't surprise me for, as w/ Forest City, which is developing other cities all around the nation, here in Cleveland it's often more about personalities than about progress.

If you check out Ferchill's website... you'll see he's done tons of projects in Cleveland.

Ferchill's getting ready to do the 88-unit project in the Flats on the river (adjacent to Tremont).

oh thats true

The Ferchill Group creates desirable urban housing offering upscale and affordable living opportunities convenient for modern living. Our work frequently involves turning underutilized, often historic sites into contemporary residential complexes that enhance the surrounding community with vibrant city life. The $72 million Heinz Lofts, for example, is redefining urban living in Pittsburgh.

The Ferchill Group has developed, owned and/or managed more than 1,775 living units in residential real estate. We continue to look for unique metropolitan living opportunities that will welcome new residents and investment to the communities that have welcomed us.

With the capacity for historic renovation combined with our instinct to tap into emerging urban markets, The Ferchill Group is building hotels that are opening to economic success.

Our entreé into the hospitality industry began with strategic hotel development opportunities in cities re–emerging as destinations with new professional sports arenas and ballparks. Specializing in historic projects, The Ferchill Group evolved with the extensive restoration of landmark buildings into hotels, welcoming travelers and the local community with both a historic sense of place and modern amenities.

The Ferchill Group has developed more than 500,000–square–feet of space to accommodate state–of–the–art hubs for new economy industries including medical office, life science research, education and technology.

Innovative design and engineering have distinguished the buildings our team has developed for diverse clients, such as the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Genomics and Stem Cell Research, heralded for its flexible–use laboratories that facilitate collaboration among staff and researchers. With premier office projects in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, The Ferchill Group is also participating in the evolution of the cities' economies with high–tech office projects on previously underutilized, abandoned industrial land.

Didn't know he owned 668 Euclid. Maybe that could be a big project for him in Cleveland. I guess we will see. I also remember reading in Crain's almost two years ago that he had a 40 million project for the WHD, but maybe the Stark plans stopped that.

I'd take 668 Euclid any day of the week dressed in my granny's underwear!

it might be of note that Marous Brothers Construction did the construction and restoration of the Heinz complex with Ferchill as well they are doing the Book-Cadillac restoration in detroit with him.
