We went to the Beachland Ballroom last night to see Kishi Bashi. Amazing show. How that guy isn’t a huge star is mystifying.

So you're the new doorman at Twist?!  LOL

Honey, you're still a twinky piece of cougar bait.  What wrinkles could you possibly have?!

OK Stop before Big Daddy Pope goes off!  :whip:

I'm still in denial about my wrinkles.

Mountain.

They ARE getting too much play. Damn sell-outs. :)

Ben Kweller is pretty sweet!  Gotta love his whistling skillz.

Sigh. Ben Kweller IS amazing. His music makes me happy.

Having recently stolen my wife's Ipod and put most of my music on it, I'm rediscovering my hair metal from 20 years ago.

Dokken...you're as Rokken as ever!

I don't think that I have any artists to add from that picture...

As far as right now I am listening to the new Q-tip, the Renaissance,  and the new Kings of Leon, Only By the Night.

ahh Stephen Pearcy, you flamed about before we hardly knew ye!

BTW, Mayday, your video says it's no longer available.

I'm in love with Muse right now.

:banger: :banger: :banger:

Also Beck, The Hush Sound, and Angels and Airwaves.

Isn't a new Muse CD coming?  Anyways, I am into Cardinology, the new Ryan Adams disc right now.

Do all you guys listen to the radio or something?

I've been listening to lots of Bloc Party lately- they just came out with Intimacy, their 3rd album.

I'm in the process of writing a comic book and most of the music I'm listening to at the moment has a lot to do with what I imagine the soundtrack to the comic book would be.  There's a lot of Deltron 3030, Handsome Furs, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode and BRMC.

^I just played it. :?

Anyhoo, it's a cheesy 90s dance version of "In My Dreams" by The Party. Just type in "In My Dreams The Party" to youtube's search... and don't hate me ;-)

Bah! They have as much musical integrity as....well, as Dokken!

I've been kickin' it old-school with The Smiths lately.

Three things:

Mojo compilation:  "Funky Soul Brothers" (despite the title this is a serviceable compilation)

"Bag o' Funk"...mixtape CD sold in a little plastic baggy (i guess like a nickel bag from the old days), sold by these guys

Thievery Corporation.

Beck's newest album is sweet.

I didn't know Ryan Adams had a new one, I'll have to check it out.

I like Kanye's new album ... I struggle with the originality of it though.

that has got to be one of the worst videos i have ever seen.

Right now I'm having an old school house music moment

I remember back in spring of '90, my ex, my best friend and his boyfriend came to NYC for a week.  We went out to the Tunnel (before the breeders ruined it) and we got in line, yes a line, remember those??  lol.  All the Ballroom set and Drag Queens pumped to the door and everyone else had to wait to get in.  We waited an hour before all four were selected deemed good enough to party with NYC elite party goers.

Then the door bitches hand picked who could and could not get in.  ahhhh...those were the days when the club was good!

You mean you've seen worse? And you're not blind?

No dear, I was protected by my "fabulous" Carrie Donovan sunglasses.

I find myself drawn to Coldplay's music.  They have such an interesting sound.  Reminds me of U2 in some respects.

Uh oh. I have a feeling you might have just opened the flood gates. I'll try to help you out before they drown both of us.

Coldplay might be the most popular band to hate these days, but there is absolutely no denying their last album, Viva la Vida, is one of the best popular albums of the year. Not only have they completely reinvented their sound, they've pushed their own musical limits and come up with something that's not only ground-breaking, but hella listenable too.

From the breathtaking opener 'Life in Technicolor' to the interesting march-step of 'Lost' (if you like JayZ, they just came out w/ a version of this song on their Prospekt March EP that has Hova delivering a verse, fantastic), to the very LostInTranslation-y 'Lovers in Japan' (might just be the title), this album flat out delivers.

I was as much of a downer on these guys as you could be. After their great first album, they sort of stumbled with an uneven A Rush of Blood.... and then followed that up with the yawn-fest that is X&Y. Viva la Vida shows what these guys can do if they just stop trying so damn hard to please everyone.

Ting tings is one of my favs at the moment

I LOVE YOU!!  I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE REAL VIDEO TO THIS.  I LIVE FOR THIS SONG.

I play this song when I get ready to go out!

I never thought I'd get an education in classic house music on UO lol. House and the newer progressive house are two of my favorite types of dance music. I could listen to it for hours. I'm loving how this thread is turning out haha.

Pumpkin, I've never liked that song

This just reminds me of you.  Although I cant find the deep house version

Oh and miss thing.  This song turns me.  I remember the first time I went to cafe con leche.  This song came on and the PRs lined up on one side of the floor and the Domincan's on the other.  The battle was on!

I gagged!

My parents would wear this song out.  First Choice is legendary.  There songs went from classic RnB to House Music staples.  When first choice come on...everyone rushes to the dance floor.

child you don't know nothin!

You had to be there, to understand the power of house music.  And just how important being a DJ is.  the 80's early 90's DJ had to earn it.  It wasn't about gimmicks, drinks, when it came to choosing a club the first question asked was "who is the DJ tonight"?

Speaking of that.  The first 35 seconds of this is song reminds me of how hard it was to get into a club.

Ms. Thing, there is no guest list ta-night!

Steven Wilson, Insurgentes. First solo album. The man's musical output is unreal. One of the few artists I still buy cds from.

Kings of Leon, Only by the Night. Though their third album, Because of the the Times, is still my fave.

G 'n R, Chinese Democracy. No Appetite, but not bad. which leads me to another guilty pleasure . . .

AC/DC, Black Ice. If they can't get us out of the recession, no one can.

I've also been on a Tom Waits and Miles Davis binge.

Mayday and MTS, you're killin' me with all those vids.  I really miss how much fun it was to go out in those years!  The gays wanted to be all mainstream and shit, and now gay nightclubs freakin suck...in a bad way.

I just watched the docudrama Paris Is Burning the other day.  I like watching it every now and then.  The Malcolm Mclaren vid and the movie reminds me that Willi Ninja, who dances in the video,  died a little over a year ago.  And one of those older crazy people that was featured in the movie died a few years ago, and they ended up finding a body wrapped up in a coffee-table style trunk in her apartment.  CRAZY!!!!

I've been hugely addicted to Radiohead's "In Rainbows" ever since it came out.

In terms of the entire breadth of their career, Radiohead is by far my favorite band of all time.

I love Paris is Burning.  Where is that video????  :?

Yeah.  The 80s were fun.  Now everyone just plays the same old songs.  That is why once in a while house party's in Central Park or Prospect Park are so popular.  No kids want to fight .  Back on our hey day (no comments from the peanut gallery), you got dressed up to go out.  There were no fights as you didn't want to ruin your outfit.

Now everyone just plays the same old songs.

Which is why I don't listen to commercial radio.
