Now everyone just plays the same old songs.

Which is why I don't listen to commercial radio.

I'm speaking in terms of Club/Disco DJs.  there are only a handful of DJ that can mix and program dance/house/classics and keep the dance floor packed and the energy in the club high.

No most clubs have a "room" for various types of music.  House - up there; hip hop/rap - down there; rnb/classic - straight ahead; latin - on the patio.

its crazy.

We went to the Beachland Ballroom last night to see Kishi Bashi. Amazing show. How that guy isn’t a huge star is mystifying.

I've been listening to Delerium for much of the 2000s and I can't get enough of them. This is one of my favorites songs, but I hate the video. The music reminds me of riding Eurostar at 186 mph on a warm sunny day between London and Brussels in 2007 (and the guest vocalist Rani Kamal is quite the babe):

And here's another one of my recent favorites, also by Delerium but with Leigh Nash as the guest vocalist and Tiesto doing the remix:

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Oh, and I almost forgot!! The trailers for Gears of War put me on to this song "How It Ends" by Devotchka:

Ms. Roxy is Kii-Kii.  I love "her" accident song.

I didn't remember that Lost and Found song at all until Jael took off her clothes. Then I remembered it!!  :-D

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

OMG Delerium!!! I REALLY like the direction this thread is taking. KJP, those first two vids are amazing.  That first song, Underwater, is remixed by the DJ trio, Above & Beyond.  They are so amazing and have defined progressive trance for the past 3 or 4 years. I love those songs. Who can forget Tiesto's classic In Search of Sunrise remix of "Silence" by Delerium?

It's one of the most classic progressive trance tracks.

Oh and Mayday, Blank & Jones are two of the most talented DJ's I have ever listened to.

Ms. Roxy is Kii-Kii.  I love "her" accident song.

Tell me about it! I remember back when they'd play "Get Huh" in certain clubs and suddenly I was the only person NOT of color on the dancefloor! It was just too much for the BWQs to handle!

he he he...and that's because you're a........

I forgot about this song.  If you're ever elected to the Oval Office, I expect to hear this song immediately after you're sworn in!

I just watched the docudrama Paris Is Burning the other day.

..that and American Fabulous are two favorite gay movies.  Dorian Corey was a real strong character.

I'm having a State of Grace Moment.  I'm blasting Ms. Jones.  I know the church folks are like what the f*ck!

This is a true diva.  Beyonce, Janet, Madonna.  None of those girlz bring it like Ms. "I'm chocking on my own spit" Jones!!!!

One of the most fabulous videos of all time.  Any of you old queen remember Citroen Car Advertisement that was cut from this video??

My favorite Grace song.

I remember this.  I was in 11 grade and I told my brother if you touch the remote I'll kill you!  Rick James was so high.  When he says, "stevie wonder, you should see this hat" the audience gags.

Nah. That ain't the best video. This is the best video (with the ending reminiscent from the scene from the movie Altered States). This was pretty awesome special effects for 1985:

Reminds me so much of my first year in college, being young and living on my own for the first time. Such wonderful memories. And then there was the follow-up video (I like this song even more):

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

KJP      ughhhhhhhhhhhh.  I hate that song & video!!

MTS:  baeh3.gif Besides, it's the 1980s. Anything from the 80s is OK by me.

OK, here's some other music I recently discovered. It's a French group called Era and I started listening to them shorty before and during my trip to England last spring. And lead vocalist Florence Dedam is quite lovely....

But this is the song that brought me to Era. Last March I was looking for information on Algeria's high-speed rail program and came across a tourism video for Algeria that had this song as the background music. So I wrote down the lyrics, did a Google search on them, and wa-lah! I love this song....

Really, then I guess you loved this crap!  (whippersnappers, you had to be there, so don't laugh.  Although I know you will!)

I just got hooked on this song.

the "set" is fabulous!

I think I may have posted this before, but Tiesto's Power Mix will be one of the best sets of all time!!!!

Wow.. what a song to start with.. Adagio for Strings ahhhh lol

I used to roller skate to Puttin on the Ritz.  Roller skating and playing pac-man were two of my favorite things to do in the early/mid eighties.

My all-time favorite band is Erasure  (I know... how gay is that?.  I listened to them religiously for years before figuring out I wasn't straight.  Someone needed to throw a large brick at my head to wake me up.

I embarrased to admit it, but I'm a HUGE Delerium fan.  I could listen to those crazy beats placed over Gregorian chants all day long.  :)

>Puttin on the Ritz.

At first I misread this as Putin on the Ritz.  I could imagine a band with that name opening for John Cougar Concentration Camp.

I'm having a "gay" moment.  A crisco disco gay moment.  My cousin and I were talking about "Virgin" Tuesdays at Chapter Two on prospect.  That DJ played the best music.

A bit of Canadian synth-pop never hurt anybody.

CLEARLY I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT. This is the thread I SHOULD be on!

OK for the people who are into Delerium, my favorite song by them is definitely "After All" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70YENjZJ3ow

And if you're into that you will also dig this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOt15JsLloU

Röyksopp - What Else Is There?

You also might like OceanLab for the smooth, melodic, vocal trance stuff. They are a curse to me. Just cant get rid of the sound, it really feels like the "Sirens of the Sea."

KUDOS to posting Tiësto!

As for what I've been listening to lately, whoa I'm all over the map. Definitely good Trance and Progressive stuff with Paul van Dyk. Gotta love Ferry Corsten, and Armin van Buuren. Lately been exploring some Markus Schulz too. I can't get Ronski Speed out of my head or anything Cosmic Gate touches.

On the other hand I consistently find myself singing Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra. Johnny Cash is EPIC. Also cleaned house to Tito Puente. Right now switchin' it up to Iio's "Rapture"

Delerium girl is hot  :-P

I thought Ludacris' album would be sh!tty considering the first single but it's still pretty good. I hate Chris Brown and T-Pain; rappers need to stop putting them on their tracks - they're ruining the music industry.

This is probably my favorite song by Ludacris lol it's so over the top and ridiculous. The punchlines at the end of each bar are typical Luda'.

I love Chris, but Whats your fantasy is my favorite Luda video.  I would totally work with him on solo project.

Hmm I'm just going to politely disagree. I think after the 10th trumpet goes off it's too redundant. I wonder what was going on in the DJ's head who was mixing this for him. . .

Luda, you know what would be awesome, if we had the exact same two second sample go off for the entire song! I won't even do anything really, I'll just set the table to loop!

Chris Brown doesn't bother me all that much.  And I think T-Pain was replaced by Lil Wayne.  Yeah, the whole voice thing was interesting for two tracks but it got old.

The real offenders of redundancy are Akon and Ne-Yo.  I sampled Akon's newest album at a borders and couldn't stop laughing.

Yeah when it comes to rap I don't even try. I don't really know much about it because I can't really stand it. Seems like rap is something that was born from hiphop? Except hiphop feels like an artform. I have to commend the BBoys who solve their problems with years of physically intense dance warring rather than brag about shooting each other or acting barbaric. . . which correct me if I'm wrong, seems to be one of the main messages in rap?

What's worse is that Kanye West is doing that voice now. First he makes hits by stealing old tracks from the 70s and 80s that people relate to, now he's taking T-Pain's voice. But he is the "Voice of this generation" according to him.

I love Chris, but Whats your fantasy is my favorite Luda video. I would totally work with him on solo project.

When are you going to help me with my solo project?

What's your stage name?

I don't make music.  But know good music when I hear it, but thats for the A&R folks.

Me, I market & promote the music and the artists' and create videos to go along with the final product.

Haha. I completely forgot about the anticrhist known as Akon.

If Akon weren't so jacked and surrounded by armed bodygaurds, I'd start swinging if I met him on the street. His music made college less entertaining for everyone. All of America should get at least one swing at him.

Akon, jacked? Not really. Plus, he only looks about 5'10. He's not intimidating. Just throw a shoe at him at a press conference then run. You'd be a national hero.

^^Yesss!!!

Outside of Christmas Music as of late, I have been listening to d a lot of dance/electronica/techno stuff.  I'm a fan of Deep Dish 'George is On' and BitterSweet 'Remix Game'.

I'm always up for nostalgia and love hearing any kind of music that defined a generation.  I was never a big fan of Nirvana, but if I come across something like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I get totally pumped and want to listen to things like Green Day's 'Basket Case'.

Also, I have a renewed interest in 'Rockwell's 'Somebody's Watching Me' thanks to Geico's new comercials.  Aparantly the version on the comcercials has yet to be released.  It will be released as a singe in January.

As much as I live and breathe house music I cannot not get into techno, trance music.

I never really got into Deep Dish, though I have heard they they are the epitome of progressive goodness. I know I would LOVE them if I gave them a listen. I think this song is by Smith & Pledger, who are totally amazing.

And MTS, have you ever heard of Fonzerelli? He is one of my favorite house DJ's and I have a feeling you will like his style. Here is his remix of "It's My Life" by Chanel:

No...no...no.  If you weren't a House Music DJ in the 80s, you know what REAL house music is.

this "techno house" is horrible. :|

And here is the song that got him on the map.  It was on Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles Mix.

Moonlight Party:

none of that makes sense to me.  When I think of "House" I think of Larry Levan and the Paradise Garage.

No...no...no.  If you weren't a House Music DJ in the 80s, you know what REAL house music is.

No, you're just too jaded and old to appreciate how the genre has evolved. :-)

You aint lyin'!

Thanks Mayday for saying what I chose not to say. :-P
