Too Much Joy is the greatest band that has ever existed.  They were around in the 80s and 90s.  It is impossible (for me) not to be excited and happy after hearing a few tracks of them.   

 

Just got my first MP3 player for Christmas. I've never downloaded a song before and until recently was still making mix tapes.  I'm about to go foraging the internet for every song I've ever liked.   

DJ Orion, that youtube post I made was originally by Smith & Pledger. Also I have to agree that Fonzerelli is great. Not my favorite, but typically the stuff I hear from him, I like a lot. Here's what on my mind right now. . . Elektrohouse!

Someone mentioned upthread about a guilty pleasure being Coldplay. I have to admit, I bought my first coldplay album (yes...I called it an album. Be happy I didn't say LP)...albeit from Itunes. I historically hated Coldplay, but something about Viva la Vida connected with me.

 

I still think it's mostly lullaby music, but nevertheless, oddly compelling lullaby music.

Music like this is usually classified as "electronic" (aka not necessarily one for the dancefloor, but with all the synth, etc. that most dance music has).

yeah dude this is an awesome remix. I first heard this on Ronski's "Pure Devotion" album.  This one is probably the best. Have you heard the Paul Miller remix? It's a joke. Not to get you started or anything, but have you heard the Ronski Speed Live at Sputnik mix from '03?

Yeah I bought the Pure Devotion album about a month ago and it is really good. I bought that remix back in August, before I heard the original. And no, I haven't heard that live album. I have a lot of his stuff from maybe 05 and 06. The song that got me going was EOS, when I heard it on A Trip in Trance 3 lol. I have a lot of music he did with Sonorous, and also stuff he did with Stoneface & Terminal.

One of my favorite songs by him though is Asarja that he did with Mirco de Govia. I like Mirco's remix better. I can go on and on haha sorry.

 

Oh!!! And also his remix of "Alone Tonight" by Above & Beyond is worth checking out.  Another one of my favs by him.  Ok, sorry. I'm done lol.

Musky - Daft Punk and The Cure seem to be making a big comeback lately. I wonder why. Maybe song samples by people like Kanye might have had something to do with it.

 

It's funny how sampling has that effect. I noticed tv shows and movies do the same thing. That whole Rick Roll phenomenon actually started from an episode of Family Guy when Brian sang "Never Gonna Give You Up".

I have that dvd. It's so good. "Live: in Tune and On Time" had an album and the dvd with this performance. It's awesome!!

The actual cd will always remind me of driving back home to Jersey from Recording Workshop in Chillicothe in '06.  It's perfect driving music.

I think my favorite Massive Attack song is "Safe From Harm."

My favorite songs by them are:

Angel, Teardrop (before I knew it was the theme for House :-P), Man Next Door and Mezzanine.

I guess I'll have to listen to some of their other albums.

 

Forgot one: Exchange. Both the instrumental and weird and creepy vocal versions lol.

I broke out the Judas Priest catalogue for the first time in 10 years... and my god, I'm lovin' it (at least their early stuff before they devolved into caveman rock)

If there are any jazz lovers out there, and there must be at least one or two (and I’m not talking about “lite” jazz :-P), WKCR-FM 89.9, the radio station of Columbia University, is presenting a non-stop tribute to jazz drummer/legend Roy Haynes running all the way until Jan. 23.  I’m sure this would include his entire discography. So far I’ve heard everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Sarah Vaughan and Duke Ellington to Nat King Cole and many other great jazz musicians with whom he performed over the past 50+ years. Every so often this station does this. A few years ago on Billie Holliday’s 90th birthday they presented a solid two-week tribute to her music.
