February 27, 200916 yr The end of your black days? Yeah I had this phase where I like wanted to be black in the early teen years...don't ask. lol
February 28, 200916 yr "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to" - Lesley Gore Great song, applicable to A LOT of situations.
February 28, 200916 yr Has anyone ever heard of Tim Fite? I had the pleasure of going to a show at Northside Tavern the other night and this guy was amazing. His sound is almost impossible to describe. Extremely entertaining.
March 1, 200916 yr So after a year of owning the cd, I finally listened to Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise 6 CD again, and fell in love with this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVdLfOxRYBE
March 1, 200916 yr i was listening to telepathe. here they are live, the sound is murky, but the music is typically hypnotic & the bonus on this one is that you can watch some girl and her supercute lazy dancing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT1aWiIniHo
March 1, 200916 yr When I clean I usually blast House Music throughout the house, but today I'm having a "slow jam" moment. This was my jam back in the day I love Sade! When my ex and I split, he put this on his answering machine.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LljZcD07URI I love that they show the old seedy, nasty gritty are of Times Square/8 Ave. & 42 Street. I love this song. Take your pic of versions the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQpf93VJxtc I love Sparkle (notice the scene editing is almost exact as two scenes in DreamGirls) And of course my girls En Vogue turned it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXkaoAUt42E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RPk5XhYb40 This song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYuPCV53nQ Ms. Thank sang the hell out of this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6IEySWTiMU&feature=related J-Lo wouldn't be J-Lo if it wasn't for Lisa Lisa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16shEIbNVmo I love me some Hall & Oates The 80's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-WwRpRbrqs Back in the day when Whitney could do no wrong. Although I could never figure out why she came out with two songs about being the "other" woman. Back when nobody knew Mariah was black http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSd08_ceDj8 This song was so hot....but not as hot as the coke-head family that sang it! But at least light skinned folks were popular for a minute. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3yt67fqTbc My theme some song for about 5 years I use to tell me ex to listen to the last 20 seconds of this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfGNxWHnMvU My parents would wear this song out. Whenever my father does something wrong he plays this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=armyc-N6P3c This was my jam too! Barry White...ump..ump http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16uozeYFeKo For all you General Hospital Fans I'll end on Miss Patti, although I couldn't find a version where she kicks off a pump and rolls on the floor and the Queens all holla!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyqF5H0MUaM
March 4, 200916 yr HUM and FAILURE are criminally underrated my ears perked up when i would hear a song by the post-failure band Year of the Rabbit all the time on wxut, during one of those automated DJ hours. It's always great to find other fans of these two classic bands. It's a damn shame they didn't receive the commercial attention they deserved, but that also has led to a sort of cult following. It's like finding hidden treasure. Hum's Downward is Heavenward record barely made a blip on the sales radar, but it was one of the best rock albums of the 90's. Very few bands can do back-to-back classics on the level that Hum did. It was so crazy when Cadillac revived "Stars" last year for their car commercials (it actually made me want to buy a Cadillac). My jaw hit the floor and I immediately called up a fellow friend who likes Hum as much as I do. The song fit well with the visuals, and that explosive wall of sound complements quick edits too. It was a slick ad campaign that didn't cheapen the song: I love Hum too but never got into FAILURE. Another good band from the 90's that I feel was overlooked was Sugar, Bob Mould's band after Husker Du. I probably have a fond spot for Sugar because the album "Copper Blue" came out just as I was getting away from Classic Rock and commercial radio. Love the Smashing Pumpkins, never cared for Billy Corgan (I know Billy Corgan IS the Smashing Pumpkins). "Siamese Dream" is tight all of the way through. Mellon Collie could have easily been cut to a single disc. I love "Adore" for some reason that I am really not sure of. Currently I am listening to the newish Ben Folds (2008 sometime?), "Way To Normal". It is yet another break-up album from the guy. I think he is on his fourth marriage. There is a great single with Regina Spektor called "You Don't Know Me" and possibly the song with the best title ever "B!tch Went Nuts!". He opens with a song about how he fell off the stage in Hiroshima and busted his face, got a concussion and then bled all over the piano. It must be nice to have a big enough following that you can put out what ever you feel like.
March 4, 200916 yr The end of your black days? Yeah I had this phase where I like wanted to be black in the early teen years...don't ask. lol What is it to "be black"? Based on your earlier posts, would it be wearing jerseys, playing b-ball and listening to Nappy Roots? Kind of j/k and I know you did not have any racial intent, but you should choose your words more carefully.... Maybe you "wanted to be hip-hop"? At least you didn't use the "W" word. As far as music, I have been lately re-realizing my love for Elton John's earlier work that I had forgot when I was too cool, or too "hip-hop", to admit that I like the guy's music. I really am all over the place, Otis - Rage - the Eagles - the Almond Bros - Linkin Park - Jay-Z - Alicia Keys - Aerosmith. I just like good music and don't really care about genres. I just downloaded some old Das Efx songs - brought me back to middle school.

Besides "being black" is back in Vogue. in regards to music, Hts44121, I'm not sure how old you are, but I sense maybe later 30s. We grew up in a time where we saw lots of varied groups/bands on MTV. You know when video's were bad but songs were good! So people from our era have a much range of musical taste.

I listened to Copper Blue for the first time in a while recently, and though it wasn't a huge seller, I remember it getting fairly decent radioplay on the local alternative station. I think it had at least 3 or 4 songs that got onto the rotation. One other thought on Hum- they don't have a huge following, but it seems that a disproportionately large percent of their fanbase are musicians themselves, something I've always considered to be a mark of a good band.
March 6, 200916 yr Has anyone else noticed how Young Jeezy sounds like he's taking a sh!t whenever he gets on the mic? Thanks for the visual! :|

March 6, 200916 yr Lately, I haven't been able to stop listening to Bruce Springsteen. I'm writing a particular comic book at the moment, and the majority of the soundtrack is decidedly Bruce. At first I thought I was being ironic, but the further into the story I get, it's looking like it's pretty spot on.
March 10, 200916 yr Lately I have been listening to Lady Gaga (don't judge) and 3oh!3, it's pretty awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M65zI9LH-as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC4UkF-fq1g

March 22, 200916 yr I am instinctively starting to listen to great summer music. The weather is getting nice. :-)
April 14, 200916 yr These two songs are fun: NSFW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKzBsVBDuQA&hl=en&fs=1
April 23, 200916 yr So my brother got me addicted to this song. Whitest Boy Alive: Golden Cage-Fred Falke Remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMzs_3NxEEI

April 23, 200916 yr ^How did I know you were going to say something about that? :P Because you would think my account was hacked if I didn't say something funny! :P :P Someones got liven this place up!
April 28, 200916 yr Alright... I have never really been into songs about war and battle, but this one brings me to tears. Off of RJA's new CD, Godspeed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTAqJKVMXdM
April 28, 200916 yr And to lift you back up: RJA: Lonely Road I really didn't think I would like their new album, but after actually seeing them in concert for the first time Friday night, I figured I'd give them another try. So glad I did. They are insane live BTW. Sorry for the bad quality in this one.
April 28, 200916 yr Somehow I missed this gem back in 1994: There's an awful lot going on in that song. We used to take songs of that quality for granted in the early 90's but that would bury anything on the radio now and probably make teenage boys cry. Thanks record companies for killing the geniuses to make way for Disney's hacks: A totally brilliant song. Better than anything that's been on MTV in 10 years.
April 28, 200916 yr I just started to listening to Frou Frou again, great songs. Some of my favorites are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x52w8txtiQs and
May 3, 200916 yr Obviously I'll listen, and get addicted, to pretty much anything: Bob Marley & The Wailers and Damian Marley: Stand Up Jamrock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjOEvJ9eIPU

May 3, 200916 yr How about a blast from the past? We used to sing this on the bus to day camp in the 1970s..... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
May 3, 200916 yr I just started to listening to Frou Frou again, great songs. Some of my favorites are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x52w8txtiQs and I absolutely *adore* the Watkins Vocal remix of "Breathe In" clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
May 3, 200916 yr How about a blast from the past? May 4, 200916 yr We sang that, too. Along with a parody of "The Stars and Stripes Forever" that ended equally abruptly: Three cheers for Jones Junior High! It's the best junior high in Toledo. It's colors are purple and white-- (Spoken) Purple is for loyalty and white is for the fight fight fight! For Jones Junior High I would die, bang! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

May 14, 200916 yr I've always dug Canadian rock, i.e. the Tragically Hip, Sloan, 54-40, etc. Right now I'm really digging Matt Mays & el Torpedo (Halifax), and Sam Roberts Band (Montreal). I've seen both live multiple times and they do not disappoint. They're definitely my fave 2 right now.
