We went to the Beachland Ballroom last night to see Kishi Bashi. Amazing show. How that guy isn’t a huge star is mystifying.

theme song from "Dora the Explorer"

That's a classic, although the Go Diego Go theme is better..

My 5 year old randomly started humming the theme from Beverly Hills Cop the other day, my first reaction was when the hell did you see that movie? Turns out that it's in Spacechimps too. Who knew?

My son was hanging from the monkey bars yesterday and started yelling "Ayudame! Ayudame!"

On the music front, I was listening to a lot of jazz standards (Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, etc.), then my ipod went on shuffle and hit Metallica's Metal Militia. So now I'm into my 80's metal again. Metallica, Maiden, and some Suicidal Tendencies. Brought back all that great teen angst!

Raaaaar! Down with the man....which is kind of what I've become...but still secretly rebellious.....but not really....Oooh! Michale Buble's on the radio!

Thanks for the Yeasayer suggestion ... I've never heard of them, but already liking them a lot!

KJP, Hybrid's a great group ... been listening to them for a long, long, time!

'Unfinished Symphony' has always been a favorite of mine from Hybrid.

^Unfinished Symphony's an amazing piece of work.

Been listening to a lot of the new Jonsi album lately. It's so unique.

Listening to Prince at work. Genius.

I have a new all time favorite Prince lyric from 'Peach' ,

" Her hotpants can't hide her cheeks, she's a peach"

Love or hate him, you have to give Prince credit for being a "true" musician, a dying breed, writing most of his own lyrics AND music.

I’m still trying to figure out if teenage Canadian jazz-singing phenom Nikki Yanofsky is a little annoying or supremely talented--maybe a little bit of both (if nothing else, she does Ella Fitzgerald better than anyone I’ve ever heard); but if she catches fire in big way, a whole new generation of kids (the first in many years), (as well as more than a few adults!) might actually learn what real music is all about (her collaboration with fellow Canuck Justin Bieber notwithstanding :-().

Pfff.....jazz!  They just make it up as they go along.

the new Black Keys album is pretty badass

the new Black Keys album is pretty badass

Its def more funky then previous albums. Some great tracks on there, 'Howling for You' is my favorite

....I'm real into The Dead Weather's new album, 'Sea of Cowards' For those not familiar, Jack White is on the drums (some guitar) and the rest of the band is comprised of various artists from other bands. From the looks of things, they put on a nasty live show

Yep Badass is right. They are at Nautica on July 25th too. I really tried to like "Attack and Release' (their last album, made with producer Dangermouse) but couldn't get into it. "Brothers" is the real deal again. Their was an article about them in the latest Rolling Stone explaining all that was going on during Attack and Release and how the two of them just locked themeselves in a studio in New Orleans to make Brothers.

ive been hearing a lot of them around lately -- 69 faces of love today

Anybody have any news on Glenn Schwartz, I know the shows at Hooples stopped back in early 2009. I believe he told the owners that he would come back and play when they stopped selling booze. There was talk on the internet that he may have done a show at the Beachland Ballroom early this year, does anybody know if that happened.

Anybody here a Bruce Cockburn fan? I started listening to some of his stuff. Yes he is an overly lefty Canadian with some of the most political lyrics ever written ( seriously he wrote a song bashing the International Monetary Fund, the chorus is "IMF, Dirty MF') . But he is an awesome guitar player especially on the live recordings.

^"If I had a rocket launcher" ...a classic

the deepsea goes

album: oraoneiroi

If anyone ever wants to do a UO gathering at a Schwartz show, I'm game.

Anyone a fan of The Gaslight Anthem? They just came out with a new CD recently and it's pretty amazing :)

Thanks AMN!

FreeThink, thanks for sharing Rocket Launcher, I've never really listened to Bruce Cockburn, but I really enjoyed that song.  Here's one for you that a friend turned me onto recently, Phil Ochs "Cops of the World"

Ipod landed on Kool Keith's "Black Elvis/Lost In Space"

I haven't seriously listened to Eminem since 5th grade when I first heard the Slim Shady EP, but Recovery is amazing.  Like I said, I know I am probably missing out on a lot of his previous releases, but this album is great.

+1, Recovery is incredible

Listening to some old "jam" stuff lately, the Band, the Allmans. I want to go to our place in PA and record my kids, brothers and sisters doing a kind of "mountain jam" w/bongos and whatever we got that doesn't plug in. Could be epic.

karaoke is a terrible situation to be in if you cant sing a note like me, but this went over well recently -- it's probably way too hard to find to be my regular karaoke song tho  -- oh well :banger:

^Your heterosexuality is questionable lol

lol - yeah yikes!! to counter that i put up an iron maiden article on the cavs thread!

so what do you think will be 'song of the summer'?

I have also been smitten by Lady Gaga.  I especially like Alejandro because it has a lot of Ace of Base influences and it always reminds me of the beach for some reason haha.

But this is oh so much better than Gaga.

Here's the song of the summer, from 22 years ago:

I like to think that I have some kind of spiritual connection with Dave Navarro because he was married for awhile to a girl from my neighborhood, who, I can guarantee was not listening to his band in 1988, because nobody in the area had this record:

But this is oh so much better than Gaga.

haha yeah that is very summer! i saw dick dale at staches in columbus. fantastic show. he is very straightedge, no drinking, no drugs, vegetarian and think i they still drive around touring in a beatup old suferdude vw van.

Whats up with all the gay Nazis in the video who look like they're from Silent Hill? That's a little creepy lol

I first heard that song at a dance club about 3 weeks ago but I figured it was an old Madonna song until I heard it on the radio a few days later.

There was a great mix of this song (similar to the one posted) at Axis in Columbus last Friday; very fun to dance to. :-D

Does anybody else remember this? It was a remix of Hendrix project from around 1994? I had an old MP3 backup cd that ended up in my car, so I listened to it on my way to work from this morning (Actually now that I think about it, my MP3s were made from a cassette that I copied off my friends older brother's CD when this came out in HS). London House DJ and group remix Hendrix over 90s techno beats? Sounds horrible right? You would think so, but actually it is very good. A few of the song structures are lacking but overall it is very good and some of the songs are down right great. The sampling and sequencing is top notch and the best songs take Hendrix vocals and riffs and transform them into something entirely new, but still maintaining a feeling that is Hendrix. The other amazing thing is these guys were probably the Dangermouse of the 90s and then pretty much vanished. I spent 20 minutes crawling google when I got to work this morning and all I could find out is the two main guys were a DJ named Du Kane and a producer named Luke Baldry. Do those names  mean anything to the techno/house fans on here?

Jimi Hendrix & Beautiful People - if 60's were 90's (p.m. Dawn remix)

From what's been leaked it looks like the third Arcade Fire album will have a lot of dud songs on it.

This is the best one so far, although it bears a suspicious familiarity to Blondie's "Heart of Glass":

don't say that, I hope your wrong, it has a great concept. Everyone on UO should dig it.

The Heavy newest album is pretty good. Kind of an updated R&B though Marvin Gaye has nothing to fear.

I was listening to the Pixies on the way into work and I started wondering what Joey Santiago was up to these days, the last I saw of him was the music he composed and performed for the first and second seasons of Weeds. I always loved his sound. This was interesting because I never knew that Shel Silverstein wrote "Cover of the Rolling Stone" or "A Boy Named Sue"

Frightened Rabbit has potential, and I like that they do not hide their Scottishness.  Pretty good lyrics, although the refrain in this song is little overdone.

Frightened Rabbit was on the radio quite a bit here in Dayton.

For me I'm revisting the DBTs Southern Rock Opera.  Forgot how much I liked that.  They are playing Louisville in September or October and I just might go see them.
