We went to the Beachland Ballroom last night to see Kishi Bashi. Amazing show. How that guy isn’t a huge star is mystifying.

Not on Youtube, but definitely worth checking out on the actual website. Incredible solo artist (Jarle Bernhoft) I saw at the Southgate House in Newport, KY last month.

EDIT: Found a pretty good clip of him on Youtube, but I still recommend checking out the link above.

This is a pretty solid song, but I bet he'd be better as a traditional front man with some background singers.  I can't imagine sitting through an hour-long set of this guy sitting down.

whoa check out these ridicaliss ticket prices for a 1980s band!

Quimbob, I have watched some of the Carol Kaye skype videos over the years.  Honestly she comes across as a bit of a jerk at times!  Definitely a very "male" personality, definitely a "musician", not some chick who happened to play music like a lot of female classical musicians.

If any of you romantic types are looking for a nice playlist to "get-it-on", I have one I created for me and my sweetie. It has a whole bunch of genres included, but most of it is relatively modern

It's on Spotify

Better Together - Scott & Yvette's Unconditional Love

New "Ohio" rock.  Or at least once from Ohio.  The Afghan Whigs new single released today.

http://music-mix.ew.com/2014/02/18/afghan-whigs-new-album-single-interview-greg-dulli/

A pretty good song, but I wanted it to open up and rock full blast.  Also, true to form, yet another horrible video.

I saw them twice live in 2012, they were very, very good.  All of these mediocre album tracks they have totally hit live.

The weird thing about Greg Dulli is that he comes across as so cheesy in his videos, and some of his falsetto and other alternate voicings don't record well, but in a live performance it all "makes sense".  Also, his yelling/shrieking is really compelling live.

Cincinnati's Buffalo Killers have a new album called Heavy Reverie coming out soon:

Robin Trower's birthday

Courtney Barnett.  Pretty much the whole CD.

Like the second cut (dont recall the name) and History Eraser.

I guess this is called Lo-Fi...but one or two tunes recall the 1960s pyschedelia/garage band thing....(can here a bit of Jefferson Airplane Without You in one of the cuts..

Funeral Songs upthread.....they're missing Leader of the Pack...especially the close with that extended skid sound fx....

Jeffery! Where have you been?

A friend of mine who was in a few local metal bands passed away in '97, and during the last couple years he had gotten somewhat into rap.

2Pac's "Life Goes On" was the main song of his funeral and associated events.

Listening to some classic DC hXc to liven up my Sunday:

A Ramones interview from 1981

What gets me, is at about 7:50, the interviewer (Rona Barrett?) asks if people from the midwest can relate to their music. She seems to be a bit of an idiot but that just seems really strange / conceited to me.

Especially considering the Cleveland scene of the 70s. And Detroit...

....on the bike  the other day was listening to Gus Gus....whatever happened to them...back when Iceland was a hot jet set spot....

Also some Gretchen Peters.

Otherwise:

I'm listening to a lot of Laura Nyro, especially her "New York Tendaberry" and "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat "albums(I wonder if anyone on here even knows who Laura Nyro was or what she sounded like...& I would have put myself in that category a few years ago, too).

hey -- we just went to see brassy texas singer amber martin (scissor sisters, sandra bernhard) sing the songs of laura nyro at the cutting room. it was interesting and i got schooled on laura nyro. for one thing she called herself NEER-oh not NY-ro like nylon like i thought.

Cincy's own, The National made a movie! The back story for this doc/movie is pretty interesting.

Here's the trailer.

That looks like it might actually be kinda fun.

Dear Lord that band is so boring.  I'm sure if you lined up all of the lame bands over the year -- say Hootie & the Blowfish, etc. -- the guys in the band probably have some brothers who were actually way smarter, probably better artists or at least more astute critics, who were disgusted by the popularity of their brother's b.s. band.  But the b.s. brother gets all the attention from their family and family friends, because they "made it".

Still luv the Who, why cant I post video? must be stupid hour

Also here is a kid, was in 2009, playing every instrument, pretty cool.

I loved Sunshine Pop! (mid-60's, and nobody seems to wear outfits like this anymore do they??--lol)

I love that song too, but has someone gone a little heavy on "mother's little helper"?

Finally, a Steel Panther song I can play within 50 yards of Ardyn.

That looks like it might actually be kinda fun.

Never said I liked the band, but, yeah, the movie is about the brothers relationship & the guy in the band mentioned that his brother probably thought the music sucked.

The roadie brother does seem to be channeling Chumley from Pawn Stars a bit.

Yeah the subject of siblings of pop cultural figures has got to be full of stories like this, where the smarter sibling is inevitably haunted for their entire life by the more "successful" brother or sister.  Siblings grow up under very different circumstances, so it's got to be hilarious for some level-minded person to watch a brother or sister "pour out their guts", or whatever, in front of a few thousand people, often knowing the real story behind whatever they're making a bunch of noise about.

Wanna hear something not lame?  Here, the greatest rock & roll record of all-time:

All the Stooges are dead except Iggy. I rise your Stooges with the best concept album of all time. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - epic story, epic keyboard solos, epic lyrics that required an addition explanation in the liner notes, set changes, costume changes, make-up . . .

in honor of Peter Gabriel's long over due HOF induction . . .

I was thinking maybe that's why they didn't make it into the top tier of the genre, but that didn't seem to limit the success of the Mamas and the Papas...

...although I preferred the 5th Dimension's slightly more upbeat rendition of this song
