We went to the Beachland Ballroom last night to see Kishi Bashi. Amazing show. How that guy isn’t a huge star is mystifying.

I loved the Front Row.

but prefer seeing shows downtown.

^Have you seen the movie, "Sympathy For the Devil" ?

The movie is about, uh, propaganda (?) but it follows the Stones through the recording of the song,  Sympathy For the Devil.

Interesting look at old time recording techniques.

not for kiddies

yeah ive seen that, good stuff. most of exile was not recorded in a studio but instead via remote recording at micks house in england and keefs in france. they were exiles due to british tax woes. by all guesses it should have been their worst record, considering the scattershot recording, the bloated fame, the drugs, & the hangers-on....but instead it miraculously turned out just right. thanks in no small part to that mississippi pool hall vibe that hangs over it.

jmeck that is too funny. haunted by the ghost of brian jones. no doubt a haggard nico and anita pallenberg by his side. i certainly agree and like all the stones records up to a point as well (i go one past you, i dig undercover too). i was just narrowing that decades long ouvure a bit.

yeah i have lots of great show memories at the front row. i even ran across that spinning stage during a couple ss johnny & asbury jukes shows. besides the cheese, they had plenty of r&b and rock acts too -- msb aside, i also saw the other local heros like rachel sweet and the o'jays and stuff like that too.

  • 4 weeks later...

This morning I woke up in full House Music (for those in Cleveland, Chicago & Detroit) or Garage (for you folks originally from NYC) affect.  Most of you young whippersnappers won't know these songs, unless you're into ho

These songs I heard when I went to the Jungle in London for the very first time.  When I moved back to the states they were playing in the Clubs in Cleveland and New York

You don't know me.   I've always felt this song best describes myself when I was growing up.

The Bomb was just insanely cool. When I moved to NYC, this was the first song I heard at the now defunct CBGB's

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jo2ydB0TCu0

I can't get no sleep with Masters at Work featuring Ms. La India!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=MMn7ToUPizQ

Then I put on the remix of black betty which was originally a southern rock song remixed into a HUGE classic house song! Here is the original version - aint this a hoot?!

Next up I had to go Deep in Vogue by Malcolm McClaren the video features the legendary Willy Ninja - the father of Vogue - God rest his soul ....He was huge in NYC Clubs well before ms. madonna "discovered" vogueing

then love is the message.  A song from soul train that was remixed in the 90s as a house music classic!  My father loves this original version of this song.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=F3DIkHerPXA&mode=related&search=

Then I had to Move your Body one of the greatest (Chicago) House songs eva!  This is the song they would play when the doors at Traxx would open at 1AM.  The memories........

http://youtube.com/watch?v=p18I11vE1nE

Another Traxx - Aqualon - U 4 RIA favorite Lonely People.  Brings back memories when clubs had "a rope" and were selective in who they let enter their venues.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=I7PMMl_-yY8&mode=related&search=

You used to hold me....one of the songs I played on my answering machine after my X and I broke up!

then followed it up with Dr. Love another disco song AND group that has stood the test of time...even today when you hear this song at a club, people RUSH to the dance floor

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Kc1xiV7UoR4

then the moment my ended with the super classics.....too bad there videos for those songs!

work me goddammit

the ha dance (the vogue battle anthem)

I'll be your friend

And I can remember well into the 80s when clubs would end the night with  Love Hangover, by Miss Ross

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qbC8PQdZ2ag

I miss the days you could go to the club and just dance and socialize, the 80s and early 90s were the shit!!

I'm loving some Ben Kweller right about now.

MTS & MayDay I should slap you both!

Old school House and party music.  MTS, you should have come to the gym this morning all the muscle queens were outted when they played house music and they played one particular song I haven't heard in decades which has been remixed.

MTS a man of your age should know this song and like it since its from one of your people!

They played you're just the right size, by Charo - Chuci Chuci!

I had to dig out

Play the world by

Sax it up  by The sax man

work me goddammit!

French Kiss by Lil Louis

Percolater by Cajmere

Not gonna let by Colonel Abrams

What was the nanme of that club on East 12?  that was all house?  When I would go out in summer or when I came home from school that place would be packed.

SHUT UP!

I totally haven't heard that song in yearssssssssssssssssss!  I know I'm old!

Percolator would always play at numbers and I love Colonel Abrams! He was hot back in the day!

Charo is Spanish not Puerto Rican!

I think you're thinking of Uncle Henry's it move a few time but was always on St. Clair.

MTS you have a rock solid memory. Thank you for taking me back in time. I don't remember Traxx but U4 RIA was a happening place back then. It had one of the most high-tech lighting systems in Cleveland.

I think I may have been to Aqualon one or twice. It was in the flats, accessible only by elevator? If so, then yes, I was there as well.

My memory is far from rock solid.  Yes, U4 RIA was the only reason to go to the westside!  LOL  It was a nice club until it went straight.  sorry, but once it was "discovered" it was never the same.

Yeah, Aqualon could only be accessed via the industrial elevator!  I remember when Lady Bunny, RuPaul would regulary perform there.

Haha .. true. But neither does Radiohead. Any good outlets for indie bands in Cleveland, pope?

grog shop and the beachland ballroom.

and at least radiohead is in the ballpark (relative to cash that is)

Only for the Headstrong best track for me would be Dominator by Human Resource. That's still a kicker for me

Human Resource - Dominator (Joey Riot & Technotrance 2005 Rmx)

[mp3=200,20,0,center]http://www.openftp.net/ftp/ftp/upload.2006/upload.2005/Hardcore/Hardcore%20Nation%202/213%20-%20Human%20Resource%20-%20Dominator%20(Joey%20Riot%20&%20Technotrance%202005%20Rmx).mp3[/mp3]

I'm Bigger, and Bolder, and Rougher and Tougher, in other words Sucker, there is no other

On Mix This Pussy, well, Tenaglia has always been an excellent DJ. Damn, that cd is 12 years old.

I worked at Aquilon (The Lift, Smart Bar, Whiskey, Planet X, etc) for almost the whole time it existed. There were many crazy nights there. I actually had the chance to drive RuPaul back and forth from the club to the hotel. I had a Cavalier hatchback - RuPaul was not very happy trying to fit in that thing. (Maybe one day I will scan a picture of what I used to look like when I operated the freight elevator for all of you old timers.)

Not to be picky, but U4RIA was actually U4IA. Worked there, too.

Speaking of west side clubs, does anyone Hank's Cafe on Detroit and West 116th. Yup, worked there too. Learned my spinning skills there from Rob Sherwood (before Mike Filley came along)

Who I'm really into these day:

The Postal Service

The Capricorns

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Crispy Ambulance

Architecture In Helsinki

Tell Your Mom I Said Hi

Arcade Fire

The Who Boys

Suburban Kids with Biblical Names

Sun Ra

Electric President

Dead Can Dance

and mostly anything that is in my signature.

I love music.

Musky I want pics!  lol  and thanks for the u4ia correction

By the way here is a great clip of Charo...in a lot of ways in my opinion she's sort of a Spanish Dolly Parton for taking on a cartoonish persona and shape but she's one of the greatest female guitar player in the world:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhe91SCJS74

Unfortunately I think like Dolly what she did in her earlier career or that she is actually a great musician has been totally overwhelmed by the pop machine.  That said there are people like this out there and I can't wait until one of them gets on American Idol and wipes everyone else up.

Also, The Subways.

Radiohead

Traffic (pedestrian traffic haha)

The blurry guy, two girls making out, and the yellow dude have me stumped.

I think the blurry guy is, well, Blur.

Is that a group?  :?

Yup yup! Not sure if they're together anymore. But they're a British band. They're awesome.

You are correct and I think Mayday is as well. So what about the g-friends?

Is that a group?  :?
