Downtown survival guide for visitors from near and far

So the Cavaliers made the NBA Finals and you're visiting Cleveland for the first time from, say, San Antonio or Bay Village.

You're a stranger in a strange land. Maybe even a little intimidated by the hoopla created by all those odd-looking people with burgundy-and-gold faces, hoisting beers and shouting "Rise up!"

All you want is a ticket to the game, a secure parking space near the arena and, of course, to party with the crowd as it cheers LeBron & Crew to victory. (Surely, even rare Spurs fans are making that long journey to Cleveland from Texas -- or the suburbs -- to WITNESS the King on his home court.)

Still, you outlanders might be more than a tad overwhelmed. Well, don't fret. It's easy to navigate our city, even with all the excitement going on downtown. Here are some helpful tips...

Euclid Avenue: The Finals Frontier

It's not the Big Dig, but it is a Big Mess.

Euclid Avenue from Public Square to University Circle won't score any points this week when thousands of visitors try to make their way around downtown Cleveland for the NBA Finals.

The avenue, torn up for many blocks to make way for bus lanes, appears more like an obstacle course than a thoroughfare. Sidewalks disappear. Mazes of barrels and mesh force pedestrians to snake through work areas..

""I think it's a disaster," said Shente Walker, who works at AmTrust Bank downtown. "It just looks like they're tearing up the street without a plan and making the city look a mess. " "

Idiot.  Obviously from the comments later in the article, the people coming from out of town are more astute observers of what's going on than our own resident morons.

"walking will be only slightly less of a hassle than driving. "

Major idiot.  You try driving the two blocks from any downtown hotel to a closer parking space on gameday and tell me if walking would have been only slightly less of a hassle.
