May 25, 20223 yr I would also think that moving a runway would be a slow process as disrupting air travel isn't really a good thing and so that probably puts a substantial limit on the quickness with which one could relocate. Barring just paving the entire CMH area with runway grade cement and just moving paint, which I would guess who be prohibitively expensive or we would see it more often. But these are wild guesses from someone with no background in airport construction and logistics.
May 25, 20223 yr From the March CRAA meeting minutes. "Taxiway C Relocation design services are underway. 30% design documents were received in January and are being reviewed by staff and stakeholders. Construction is planned for the 2023 season. This project will be funded primarily by an FAA AIP grant." It sounds like, at least according this, the taxiway relocation should be started and completed during the 2023 season.
May 25, 20223 yr Posting this in here, since it deals with the whole metro: “In addition to this project, Stonemont is pursuing four others in the area, according to the release. Wheeler said these four potential projects are all industrial. One of them is just east of downtown Columbus and the others are being set for areas to the east of the city to avoid competition with the West Jefferson facility. The firm is committed to the Columbus area because of its proximity to a large portion of the country's population, Wheeler said. “Columbus will become a top focus for us over the next few years, and we look forward to extending our footprint even further throughout the market as Central Ohio’s economic and industrial growth story continues to play out,” Markwell said in the release.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/05/25/atlanta-stonemont-west-jefferson-industrial.html

June 17, 20222 yr How many buildings can you count that were built in the last 10 years? I think it's at least 50.
June 17, 20222 yr I got to 100 before my eyes gave out. I know I missed several in IV along N 4th St. There's also a lot of single family homes in IV that I missed. I'll bet the actual count is over 200.

June 23, 20222 yr A couple articles out today from CBF. The first discusses the brownfield grants awarded last week, and it gives a little more detail on the WestBend project from Thrive. The second discusses two projects from a Louisville-based developer, including the affordable housing project I posted in the South Side thread a few days ago. Brownfield remediation grants will help redevelop sites into affordable housing, offices “Armed with $10 million in state brownfield funding, Thrive Cos. has plans to clean up and redevelop an auto salvage yard on the city's west side into apartments, office space and some affordable housing. According to plans submitted to the state, the four buildings on the site would be demolished as part of the cleanup project. Then, the property would be redeveloped as WestBend, a mixed-use project with 750 apartments, a 12-acre park and offices. There will be affordable housing options. The WestBend name pays homage to the location and the bend in the river where the project is located. Reidy said the hope is that the development increases access to the Scioto River in that location.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/06/23/brownfield-redevelopments.html Louisville affordable housing developer expanding into Columbus market “The Whitehall area project proposed by LDG Development recently was awarded a state brownfield remediation grant. Zac Linsky, development manager with Kentucky firm, said LDG is happy to have received the brownfield funding to transform an auto salvage yard into workforce and affordable housing. The property, located at at 3515 E. Main St., straddles Whitehall and Columbus. "If not for this program, sites like this would remain brownfields," he told Columbus Business First. The company is in contract for the property.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/06/23/ldg-affordable-housing.html

July 11, 20222 yr Looks like there are some updated Google Streetview images as recently as June 2022.
July 12, 20222 yr I like this concept and would love to see it utilized all over Columbus. Local Entrepreneur Wants to Build An Apartment in Your Backyard Lease the Lawn will work with Columbus homeowners to build a two-car garage in their backyard with a two-bedroom apartment above it – at scale. From a technical standpoint, Lease the Lawn needs 50 feet of alley access and a 24-by-24 footprint to build a unit. If a space clears those two hurdles, then it’s on to city services – making sure sewer, water and electric can be run from the street to the back alley in an affordable way. The units will be two stories – two-car garage on the ground floor, 725 square-foot, two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath unit on the second.
July 12, 20222 yr I think this is great! The biggest hurdle is Columbus' zoning code prohibiting this use in many neighborhoods. If they can get pre-approval it would smooth the process. I know several folks in Clintonville would like to do this but are unable to due to zoning. I don't think the Clintonville Area Commission is opposed.

July 15, 20222 yr Accessory Dwelling Units or ADUs are getting a lot of attention in several cities. Zoning restrictions are the number one reason they are uncommon and difficult to build. There is quite a bit of momentum especially with groups like AARP to revise code language to allow them by right as a way for seniors to age in place since they are typically smaller units and more affordable.
