Visited Columbus for a friend's birthday party this week. As with all trips to Columbus, it all started with a two-hour zombie drive through the most mind-numbing boring countryside that is Medina, Wayne, Ashland, Richland, Morrow and Delaware counties (aka flyover country of Ohio):

But look, world class signage!

Downtown Columbus in the distance:

Kind of gappy from this angle:

But much better in this shot:

Finally we get to stretch our legs in the 'hood:

Nice older buildings around the area:

Never mind that, it's time to check out the rooftop deck! :-)

What the heck, it's LeVeque!

But it was time to go to the birthday party - on the way, outside the Columbus Art Museum:

Cool metalwork on these church doors:

Not sure what this building is, but I like it!

Nice balconies up there:

AEP in the daytime:

We could use a few of these in Cleveland:

Managed to get a nice rear-view mirror shot:

AEP at night:

Once back, I make a beeline for the rooftop deck:

Yep, that's what I was hoping to see :-)

This building is just weird:

And after the two-hour zombie drive, a sign that makes me feel oh so happy:

"I'm on my waaay, just set me freeeee, home sweet home..." (Dear god, I'm quoting Motley Crue - it's been a long week):

For what you had to work with, nice shots!

(Looking at some of that Polaris sprawl out my office window right now. Shoot me now).

What a great city; I don't mind being stuck here for the summer.

Nice pics, but what the hell was up with the Van on the last pic.  it appeared that vans rear door was going to fall off at any min.

personally i could have gone for 34 shots of nationwide.

I never knew you were such a big fan of Strongsville!  You're just full of surprises.

Great pics bro!  I'm always dissapointed when I see the Columbus skyline at night because it could look so much better.  Someone needs to call the Vern Riffe Center's building manager and tell them to light that big bitch up.

Good stuff!

The Columbus CBD could use some more life, but overall the downtown area is pretty good. The nearby areas like German Village and the Brewery District are great at street level, and the Short North is lively in evenings. I enjoyed my visit there last year, and hope to go back soon.

very nice...and it is always nice to return home.  I'm partial to the cut-in-the-hill view when I get back in Cincy.

Managed to get a nice rear-view mirror shot:

Man, this picture is cool as hell...great pics!

Hehe Strongsville.

As a former resident of Wayne Co... I take offense to your depiction of my former home.

Lovely photos though.

The wierd building is Grange Insurance I believe.

The night photo is just awesome of the downtown skyline.  Not used to that angle.

I totally agree.  I am greatly disapointed in the fact that so many high rises downtown are not lit at night.  But if you notice, most of those are State Office Buildings.  You probably have to go through the state legislature to get them lit up.  My question is though, how do you light up something like the Riffe Center anyway?

Grange is actually further south.  That building houses mostly law offices.  I'm not sure it has a name.  The wing that juts out (buttress?) actually closes in "The Patio" in the Brewery District from Front St.  It's nice from street level, but a little weird from this angle. ;)

Was it the skyline or the busted up van that signaled your arrival in Cleveland?

the busted up van gave the signal that he was within an hours drive of Youngstown.... lol
