Oh, but golly, it's such a long two-block walk from my office and it's windy downtown and there's lots of scary people down there and my feet and knees will hurt more if I actually use them....

Not a whole lot to see at this point...

But it's nice to see construction photos, no matter what! Thanks.

That neighboring garage looks dangerously unsafe... Haha glad to see it covered up. Even if it's with... Another parking garage!

Nice shots...thanks a bunch.

Wasn't able to drive by when I was in town for Christmas!

No problem.  More than happy to get out of the office for a bit on a day like today in January.

The Calfee preview event which was rescheduled for February has been canceled and I was refunded. The email said this was due to "ongoing construction" and they hoped to open to the public later in the year. Havnt been by lately but they must be behind schedule?

I saw these pictures from @mdealoia on Twitter from a tour of the Calfee Building:

Wow.  That's going to be quite the firm HQ.

Beautiful. They sure don't build them like they used to!

I worked in that building in the late 90s when it was Channel 3 and...  wow.  I mean, Channel 3 had walls everywhere that just covered up the space and closed everything off.  Not at all open like this appears to be.

So did my sister. I think she will love to see those pictures.

But note they are STILL working on the renovations. Depending on when these pictures were taken, it could mean the renovations at the Schofield won't start yet.

^yeah I am not sure what the holdup is here.  According to the flicker account most of those photos were taken in March 2011. I think this thing started about the same time as the MM/CC. And that's like 50 times the project. Maybe there was a funding delay or whatever.

What a great gem! Cleveland has done some noteworthy restorations.

Amazing restoration, and very suitable for an old Cleveland law firm.

Walked by today and took some pictures.  They have new signage up on the front and sides, and the parking garage continues to be under construction.  It looked like they were pouring concrete while I walked by.

They've done a very nice job with that building. Walked by it at 6 a.m. Saturday after getting off the train from Chicago. Look great even in the dark, but there's enough city lights around to see it.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite downtown restorations. Classy, neoclassical and very suitable for a law firm. The pics from inside are great too.

How long has the Calfee sign been up? Just noticed it now when seeing your pics for the second time.

I wouldn't put such emphasis on renderings. They are not precise architectural documents. If an original blueprint was scaled back, however, that's a different matter.

ClevelandConstruction.com posted some new photos of the interior build, I've linked to the full-size versions.  Looks very nice inside.

Thanks for the great shots!

Very nice indeed, great job of integrating the old features with a modern update.  The security desk is stunning and nicely done!

:-o I want to work THERE... that fountain is awesome

WOW. Now that is an incredible process. Its moves like this that are truly great for Cleveland. There are some people who I am very excited to show these images to.

(professional hat on)  Really?  To be used in what capacity?  All those windows and reflective surfaces make it a hard shoot!  The clerestory acoustics need as well. (professional hat off)

I'm particularly liking that second shot...that iconic, clean series of windows! And the ceiling. Wow.

Sure MTS you're right, good point actually. Certainly some issues with lighting most definitely. But I'm a doc film guy, I like the challenge of incorporating these obstacles and making them work out into something unique. Or, I'm curious of what a Wes Anderson could do working in that interior.

Then the shoot would have to be after sundown.  I would use the building in exterior shot, no doubt, but the atrium proves a challenge.

Great job on this one. Exterior fully lit now for a few nights. Again, CRM, Calfee and Cleveland Construction (and the Nat'l Park Service) did a great job.

This project looks fantastic, inside and out. That night lighting is awesome. With this and the casino, the caliber of night lighting to emphasize the gorgeous details on these buildings downtown has definitely been upgraded. I hope as more and more restoration projects take place throughout the city this will continue.

Now I'm imagining the Schofield all finished with this type of lighting and it's quite the nice mental image :)

^^Man I love that project. Now if only something can happen across the street at the BOE. BTW did you take those at 5 O'Clock in the morning.

Thanks! Looks amazing

I'm so happy to see how that turned out - great pics!

Agreed!  Nice pics clueless.

That back-lit "Calfee" sign rocks!  Thanks for taking these!

I'm a fan of looking at things in their context so I took a quick look at the area to orient myself and wanted to share a few things.  The Calfee in the lower left corner (in green) and across from the Cleveland Board of Education Building which is perennially considered for sale to be turned, perhaps, into a hotel.  Across from the beautifully renovated Calfee it would add another aesthetic plus to Sixth Street.  I've added the Mall and Medical Mart, and have East Fourth in blue.

I also added the grid which reveals just how large some of our blocks are in downtown (shorter blocks are typically better for pedestrians).

Anyhow, wanted to share and see if anything jumps out at the board when they see this view.  It seems that every few years a group is pulled together and they draw various maps with "radial" and "linear" paths showing off how the city can become a pedestrian haven, but sometimes looking at what is already there reveals insights.

The first thing that jumps out at me are those large swaths of anti-pedestrian parking lots on the upper-right corner. But that's a subject for the Warehouse District thread. :)

Our blocks are long, but I feel that they make Cleveland more pedestrian friendly. Mainly because we have several walkthroughs, such as the old arcade, euclid arcade, and the colonial arcade. You can easily get to the other street, and if you do choose to walk down euclid, you dont have to stop every 10 seconds to wait for a cross walk.

Yes, I sure did.  :-P

Speaking of across the street, here is the awesome view the Calfee has at night (or early morning). The BOE definitely would be a stunning hotel ...

MayDay...a bittersweet moment -- time for another one to go  in the Completed Projects section? Although it is nice to rack 'em up in there, means stuff is getting done.

Not sure if it adds anything to the discussion, but since I am now a monthly downtown parker, I've been trying to find out what other nearby lots cost. The new Calfee garage is $205 (!) a month.

Dude, that has to be one of the most kick-ass photos of Key Tower I've ever seen. It's very Gotham City-esque!!

Looks like there are a couple yellow lines missing. Particularly between the courthouse and library

Thanks! There really wasnt any fog, or clouds for that matter. But there was high humidity and no wind which probably added to the ethereal 'look' of Key's lighting.

The BOE is really in a unique and interesting location. Would love to see it developed soon. In general, E. 6th is a great street, getting better.

It's the two towers! The eye of Sauron watches over Cleveland

Try Rockwell garage, which is next door to the new Calfee garage, or the Cathedral garage.  My company has a group rate at the Cathedral for $147/month.  I think the Rockwell has the same rate.
