August 23, 200717 yr ^I thought I read somewhere that they were just going to use the regular buses for this training...it is more to get the drivers use to using the medians.
August 23, 200717 yr ^That release only has Friday as the day the articulated buses will be out, so maybe they'll be training n the regular buses on other days?????

August 23, 200717 yr Dumb question, but I never really thought about it, will these busses have doors on both sides?

August 25, 200717 yr Water line on Euclid Ave. downtown breaks, road is shut down Posted by Brie Zeltner August 24, 2007 21:35PM Categories: Breaking News A water main break on Euclid Avenue near Public Square has shut down the road tonight, Cleveland police said. The break happened about 9 between E. 6th Street and Public Square. The road is closed and police are waiting for utility workers to arrive to deal with the water. No information was available about the cause. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2007/08/water_line_on_euclid_ave_downt.html
August 25, 200717 yr It flooded Pickwick & Frolic again....and Wonder Bar wasn't letting anyone in because of it. Grrr.
August 25, 200717 yr It flooded Pickwick & Frolic again....and Wonder Bar wasn't letting anyone in because of it. Grrr. And yet we still have people complaining about how long the construction is taking. When u have stuff like this happening on top of all the other outdated infrastructure you're replacing, its gonna take some time.
August 25, 200717 yr My garage was flooded. I wondered what it was, because it was clean water for once.
September 5, 200717 yr I must say that for the first time, I'm beginning to see the potential for neighborhood revivals and growth along the ECP! Here's my story: Monday evening I was driving back from the east side and decided to take Euclid-from E. 55th-back into downtown and over to Ohio City. I was amazed at the development taking place throughout Midtown and into CSU! I've "read" about what's going on in Midtown but haven't checked it out in a while and I was truely impressed and excited about the future. Even though I drove down Euclid around 9pm, I felt one could walk all the way from E.55th to Public Square and feel completely safe! The new shelters look rather sleek too! They have a nice glow to them at night I'll bet they glisten in the snow. I hope that RTA can maintain a high level of cleanliness along this line... Anyways, even though a subway or streetcar line would seem to be a better investment, I will stop counting the ECP short even if it's just fancy busses. With some smart planning (ie no setbacks or surface lots)--especially in Midtown and the CSU neighborhood, I don't doubt the ECP's ability to facilate and maintain our soon to be reborn Euclid Avenue. Regarding the recent thread about Superior Ave. acting as Cleveland's Michigan Ave., I feel that Euclid is well on its way. Ok, well we need a lot more money invested in projects along the street but we're at a good starting point. Again, if anyone hasn't made the few mile drive up to E. 55th since they've installed shelters, DO SO NOW! It's the breath of fresh air we need in the dusty alley that Euclid's been the past few years! I really hope this momentum continues--or better yet increases--so that our storied avenue can once again stand with Michigan, Yonge, or whatever else! Now if someone would build 515 already!!!

October 7, 200717 yr Drove down Euclid today from Playhouse Square to just before the Cleveland Clinic. The project has come a long way since my last tour a month and a half ago. Lots of stations up now. The new traffic lights on Euclid have a very long red. The signal lights for the buses are interesting and already look like they are set to give buses priority. I'm looking forward to riding it when it's finally done.
October 7, 200717 yr They've been working on "my" section between E9th and E12th both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. They seem to really be pushing to stick to schedule.
October 17, 200717 yr I drove down Euclid twice recently, pretty much all the way from the Clinic to Playhouse Sq, once during the day and once at night. I came away pretty impressed as it's much easier to see how it's going to come together now. The stations are very prominent and make the whole street seem more intimate and denser. Even the "dead zone" between about 40th and 79th looked decent with the new road, stations, and streetscape improvements. Also noticed that the lighting of the stations at night is pretty cool as they uplight the inside of the roof. All in all, while I was a supporter of the ECP in concept before, the look of it is actually better than I expected. BTW, anyone know what's going on with the bldgs across from Gallucci's? IIRC, there used to be a delapidated warehouse across the street (on the N side of Euclid). Now it looks like part of it's gone (on the western edge) and the southern wall of the rest of the bldg has been taken off altogether. Any info?
October 19, 200717 yr What's going on with the buildings across from Gallucci's? There used to be a delapidated warehouse across the street (on the north side of Euclid Avenue. Now it looks like part of it's gone (on the western edge) and the southern wall of the rest of the bldg has been taken off altogether. Any info? This is Jerry Masek, who works in publications and media relations at RTA. Thanks for your kind words. Just keep watching, things are getting better every day. I took your question to Jamie DeRosa, [email protected], who is Deputy Project Manager of Real Estate. He said, "RTA owns the building at 6611 Euclid Ave. This week, we gave the contractor a notice-to-proceed to build a new face on the building. After that, we will start looking for a developer, and are seeking transit-oriented development(TOD) proposals for the property." I hope this helps.
October 19, 200717 yr A new face on the building? Are there renderings you can share? We love renderings on urbanohio!
October 19, 200717 yr Jerry, I'm sure your people have looked into this, but I'm curious about why RTA would go ahead with work on the property (after tearing off the facade about a year ago) without an end user. Is it because they believe it will be easier to market with a new facade? What if the end user decides they don't like it? Interesting...
October 19, 200717 yr That building is a hulking bad ass. Hopefully it is treated well in the new design.
October 19, 200717 yr pretty please... that's another reason why I'm worried. You take off a handsome, historic facade and put up something cheap or inappropriate and you'll break a lot of hearts.
October 20, 200717 yr I have asked Jamie DeRosa to put together a complete history of RTA and that building. I will share it with you as soon as it is done. My initial thoughts: RTA is just putting a "band-aid" on the building to keep it from being an eye-sore, and then some developer will change it to suit his or her needs.
October 21, 200717 yr I bet if you're quiet at night you can hear cries of dying for Allah coming from this disaster area

October 22, 200717 yr pd: Euclid Avenue construction shuts some downtown streets Monday, October 22, 2007 ........
October 22, 200717 yr I'm glad they added that last sentence, so many of my coworkers, "wah wah, its taking forever, wah wah"
October 22, 200717 yr Re: 6611 Euclid Ave. building, an update from Jamie DeRosa, who oversees Euclid Corridor real estate work. As part of the Euclid Corridor project, RTA is re-aligning the roadway. That required part of this building to be demolished, so RTA bought the entire piece of property. Now that the road work is done, RTA must follow the city demolition code, and close up the building's openings. RTA will do this in such a way that a new owner can easily remove the temporary cover and rehab the building to fit his or her needs.
October 22, 200717 yr RTA now owns 50 "next connect" signs. 30 of them have already been installed at rail stations and transit centers. Many of the other 20 will be installed along the Euclid Corridor. You can see one in operation at East 40th Street Station. On Oct. 16, the RTA Board approved the purchase of 63 more signs for $368,000. They will arrive early next year. You will see them at rail stations, transit centers, and along Euclid Avenue. The signs from Siemens CDO announce the next scheduled departurne, as well as the present time. 80 percent of the cost was paid with federal funds.
October 22, 200717 yr That's awesome. Yeah, 113 "next connect" signs will do a wonder for the visibility of the RTA. I would hope that in addition to along the Euclid Corridor, they will also find a home elsewhere in downtown's transit area, such as along Superior, E. 9th, E. 12th, etc.
October 22, 200717 yr I'm a big fan of the Next Connect signs, and having them out on the street would be beneficial.

October 22, 200717 yr I'm a big fan of the Next Connect signs, and having them out on the street would be beneficial. Anything to get people more visually aware of mass transit is an awesome thing.
October 22, 200717 yr And at the airport I think they are at the airport already no? I like the signs and the content. My only minor complaint is the proportion of display time dedicated to showing the next departures v. the adds and other news. I get bored looking at the non-schedule content and inevitably look away just when it finally gets back to the schedule. I might just have adult ADD or something, but I feel like I shouldn't need to stare at the thing for more than 20 seconds straight to get the main info.
October 22, 200717 yr pd: Euclid Avenue construction shuts some downtown streets Monday, October 22, 2007 ......... I'm whining, but all these closures in this area at the same time are really screwing me the hard way. This is the first time I've really been impinged significantly by the construction though.
October 22, 200717 yr Yeah. I have a love-hate relationship with the MTA. I think it's great that Cleveland is stepping up its efforts to improve its transit. At least, whatever it has. I would love to see expansion of rail lines as anyone else, but the improvements they're making are definitely needed.
October 23, 200717 yr The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently created a second Web site devoted strictly to helping the public find out more about transit. You may want to check it out. APTA's main Web site continues to be www.apta.com The new Web site is www.publictransportation.org
October 23, 200717 yr I think they are at the airport already no? Terminal Tower & Shaker Square have them also.
October 26, 200717 yr I was listening to WCPN this morning at around 6:10 AM. There was a local report that real estate development activity is increasing along the Euclid Corridor. Developers are showing interest in more commercial, retail and residential projects along the route. Build it (right) and they will come...
October 26, 200717 yr Can't wait for the BRT's to start their runs, taking the place of the #6. I rode it from Mayfield/Euclid Ave to E9th yesterday around 3:00 and it was one of the most ridiculously packed bus I've ever seen (and I've riden NYC, Florence, Paris, Rome bus systems during rush hour). Standing room only the whole time with an average of probably 75 people on it for the duration. 45 minutes for a 5 mile trek is a bit much.
