February 11, 200817 yr Okay, don't kill me ... I know this is probably somewhere buried in this thread, but I'm not seeing it. Can anyone provide me with an updated timeline for the ECP? I'm holding an event in mid-May at Levin and am particularly interested in how much of the downtown work will be done by that time. Thanks. 8SOG- The latest update to RTA's board is here: http://www.riderta.com/pdf/presentations/2008-02-05-ECTP.pdf (pay particular attention to pages 3 & 4). At this point, Euclid Avenue will be open from E 17 - E 86 anticipated early March, with the full project scheduled for opening on or about October 26, 2008. The stations from Public Square - E 14 are currently scheduled for completion by August 17.
February 18, 200817 yr tipoff: That's how they roll: The most expensive vehicle at the Greater Cleveland Auto Show, which starts Saturday, isn't a tricked-out Mercedes or a party-on-wheels Hummer. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority says it's the Rapid Transit Vehicle, the nearly $1 million, 62-foot diesel-electric bus that soon will be rolling down the Euclid Corridor. The anti-auto vehicle will be on display throughout the auto show.
February 20, 200817 yr I have to give it to the construction workers on the ECP, they are out there working on these ridiculously cold days and are making progress. The first dual light post for the center median of the project has been placed just west of E12th.
February 20, 200817 yr Also... "Traffic Pattern Altered at the Euclid/E. 9th Street Intersection Weather dependent, beginning February 25, traffic currently maintained at the Euclid/E. 9th Street north intersection 'weave' will be shifted to the south intersection of the new pavement. Pavement shifts will be on Euclid Avenue only. No changes will occur to the East 9th Street traffic pattern at this time. For more information please contact the project office at 216-771-4144." Personally i think this is good news... one more piece of sh*tty road that will never have to be used again.
February 23, 200817 yr I finally got a chance to read the Feb 10, 2008 write-up of the Euclid Corridor project in the Plain Dealer. It's a rare piece of fine reporting. One thing I noticed, a bunch of major Cleveland area developers were mentioned in the article-- except Jacobs and Forest City. Are these two not that interested in the EC? I know Jacobs is pretty clueless about the concept of transit-oriented development, but I thought Forest City would have some major project along the corridor that would get mentioned by the PD. Combined with the February 17, 2008 piece on University Circle, I finally have a good overview of everything that's happening along the corridor, who's involved, etc. It's good to see that institutions like the Cleveland Clinic are trying to work with surrounding neighborhoods to ensure not only that development benefits them but attempts to head off the potential problem of gentrification of those neighborhoods before it happens. The 2/17 article mention the 2006 traffic study that says UC's high-volume streets are "friendly to commuters but hostile to street life." The study read my mind. I'm very glad that's being addressed!
February 28, 200817 yr Clinic, UH pay to name bus line Posted by Sarah Hollander February 28, 2008 06:06AM Categories: Top Story When it comes to naming rights, both buses and baseball are proving marketable in Cleveland. A month and a half after Progressive Corp. paid to rename Jacobs Field, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has announced another major naming rights deal. February 28, 200817 yr The HealthLine....Well, whatever! It's bringing in some much-needed revenue to RTA, so whatever works!
February 28, 200817 yr You guys should see the vultures on cleveland.com already, even when this is a positive for the city. Heck, I'm glad that the busses won't say elk & elk too.
February 28, 200817 yr I think this is a "win-win" regardless of the lame name. RTA doesn't have to pay for upkeep of those stations and income is spent on other parts of the system and the money (income) for this portion of the system maintains the buses, and potential the station and any collateral materials relating to the "silver" line. Now my tax and farebox dollars can be spent improving other portions of the system.
February 28, 200817 yr I actually like the name. It really markets our city's true industry - health care. My god, there are so many well-paying biotech jobs available that people simply aren't aware of or qualifed for, since many still mistakenly view this as a steel city. I mean, look at Beachwood - it sometimes seems like they have more biotech frms than Israel, Germany, and Switzerland combined (obviously I'm embellishing, but still...)! This 'health line' title might bring about a new awareness of Cleveland's healthcare niche and I'm definitely giving it thumbs up. It's also good to see UH and the Clinic working together on this too. I firmly believe they should merge so that the emerging conglomerate would be even more globally renowned, and Cleveland's reputation can take off even more. Hurrah for optimism! And hurrah for off topic paragraphs!
February 28, 200817 yr Ehh, I like the financial part. But the name sounds more like a medical info hotline. So, predictions as to whether locals will actually use this name? And if they do, will visitors have any idea what we're talking about?
February 28, 200817 yr ^ I think we're the only people who know the name of any of the RTA lines, lol ;)
February 28, 200817 yr Ehh, I like the financial part. But the name sounds more like a medical info hotline. So, predictions as to whether locals will actually use this name? And if they do, will visitors have any idea what we're talking about? I think for all intensive (no pun intended) purposes, RTA should stick with a color like the other lines. I've lived in shaker or shaker square almost all my life and many people still call it "the shaker rapid" or "the van aken rapid" and call the Red Line the "Cleveland rapid" or "CTS line", so I think keeping the "silver" tag makes sense. They could something along the lines of the Health Line Silver Service.
February 28, 200817 yr RTA plans a late-October ribbon- cutting for its $200 million Euclid Corridor bus-rapid transit project, one of the largest public works investments in the city's history. OK, what constitutes "one of the largest public works investments in the city's history"? Is it being in the top 5 or 10 most costly projects? If so, the Euclid Corridor isn't even close. When the last section of I-480 was built in the mid-1980s across the southern part of Cleveland, between Brooklyn Heights and West 150th, it cost $150 million per mile. Then there's some of the sewer interceptors, especially the huge tunnel being built in Garfield Heights. Or the runway expansions at Hopkins. Or the Red Line, adjusted for inflation. Or the Cleveland Union Terminal complex and approach tracks (adjusted for inflation, it tops out at $2 billion). And those are just the ones off the top of my head. February 28, 200817 yr They could something along the lines of the Health Line Silver Service. Sounds like a geriatric medical info hotline. But I agree with you that color works well. This is purely an aesthetic comment, but I disagree with Joe C about preserving the BRT Vehicle's pristine silver outside- I would have been plenty happy to see these vehicle wrapped in colorful, tasteful adds (for the Clinic or UH maybe?). During the cloudy months without leaves on the trees, I think silver just blends into the Cleveland gray...
February 28, 200817 yr well did anyone see a couple months? ago when people in Seattle realized that their new light rail? had S.L.U.T. as the acronym? Why do people on Cleveland.com think that corporate naming rights is a Cleveland phenomenon?! As a verywise man once told me, "Clevelanders don't know they don't know" and this is true--well at least for most of those on Cleveland.com The people who b*tched about this today were probably the same people who praised Cedar Point a couple weeks ago when Cleveland.com had an article about their newest ride and were saying how they love heckling the Michiganers in line...If anyone has been to CP you know the interesting people that are waiting right besides you... I need to stop reading that website-even for a quick update-b/c those comments get my blood going!
February 28, 200817 yr "Why do people on Cleveland.com think that corporate naming rights is a Cleveland phenomenon?!" If I had a dollar for every time someone made a "bubblehead" comment like that  clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 28, 200817 yr The Rockefeller Park bridges? Cleveland Municipal Stadium? Are you mentioning these based on their cost? I hope not. The stadium was built in 1931 for $2.5 million. That's just $34,717,105.26 today (per http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl). I don't know much the Rockefeller Park bridges cost, but I seriously doubt they were in the hundreds of millions of dollars. February 28, 200817 yr Wow, I had no idea the stadium was that "cheap" to build. Anyways, I was thinking they meant "big" in terms of impact and visibility. Obviously, ECP is big in this regard as well. EDIT: And I really couldn't tell you why the question marks were present.
February 29, 200817 yr I am on the number six bus right now on Euclid. Some thoughts. Once past e12 or so, the bus finally began making good time. Hope there iswifi someday on the buses, would be a neat niche. Everyte the door opens it makes a drum sound hah. Honestly, I'm he only white guy here and a few passengers seem mentally I'll. The buslane is pretty neat. I could get used to rat. Bus driver is a very sweet lady. Construction hell by case. Ugh. Oh no a detour. Overall decent impression though traffic nasty and lack of professionals and students is disconcertin. Hope this isn't to rndon

February 29, 200817 yr observation in general. Just wanted to say what I see and give impressions Yeah, right!
February 29, 200817 yr Ignoring two cents find-a-racist-win-a-prize arrogance for the moment, I thought the ride was a vast improvement than when I used to take the six a couple years back, even with bad traffic. I actually rode it out to lakeview cementary which was evidently the wrong stop and I had to walk a mile or so before giving up (couldn't find by destination and my nice shoes are damaged) before 6ing back.

February 29, 200817 yr A guy by the name of Garry Seeman (sp?) has a talk show on WRUW, 91.1 on Friday afternoons from 2:30pm to 4 pm. He's sort of a libertarian type with ideas ranging from good to bad. Among the not so good ideas, he not real keen on public transit. Last year he was critical of the Lorain-Cleveland commuter rail proposal but only offered the standard libertarian line: "If there was a market for it, the private sector would be providing it". Anyway, he started to comment about the Euclid Corridor at the end of his show today. He didn't have time to say much. He only criticized the whole Cleveland Clinic naming rights thing (although isn't that the market at work??). However, he said it will be a topic next Friday. Shows can be downloaded (after the fact, of course) here: http://www.wruw.org/guide/show.php?show_id=409 Different subject: I understand that RTA needs the money, but I think the Cleveland Clinic and UH spending $6 million (or whatever it was) on the name is a bit ridiculous because I just think the hospitals' $6.25 million would be better spent on charity care.
March 2, 200817 yr ok, folks... where are all the pictures from the auto show? I still have no idea how to post photos....but JetDog has access to a bunch I took, so I am sure he will post them just as soon as his 40 other priorities are taken care of. He in charge of making sure all new timetables for the March 23 service changes are posted asap, so please excuse him if he is a bit MIA every now and then.

March 4, 200817 yr So I notice the new traffic light poles (arms?) are appearing on Public Square, SE Corner. The camera on top is new to me, what's it for?
March 4, 200817 yr So I notice the new traffic light poles (arms?) are appearing on Public Square, SE Corner. The camera on top is new to me, what's it for? they should be traffic detector cameras (in place of the wire loops that are run in the ground at some intersections). the euclid corridor stations are supposed to get surveilance cameras, but i believe that all of the cameras you see mounted on the traffic poles are for detection of vehicles only, and not video monitoring or recording.
March 6, 200817 yr I heard that in addition to the watermain break, that part of the roadway "collapsed" this morning... can anyone verify this?
March 6, 200817 yr I heard that in addition to the watermain break, that part of the roadway "collapsed" this morning... can anyone verify this? yep. large sink hole in the middle of superior and ontario intersection. apparently 4 different water mains run under this area.

March 6, 200817 yr This may be a dumb question, but they say the pipes and everything were relatively new, having been put in as part of the EC project, and that it was just an "act of nature" due to the ice storm. Ice and snow are part of every winter here. I don't get why something so new would give way so soon?
