December 1, 200420 yr Good grief! The London picture shows lane markings for buses and bikes only. If their bus drivers are anything like the ones here, I wouldn't go anywhere near that lane on a bike. I stay as far from Fort Wayne's Citilink buses as I can when I'm biking; twice I've nearly been run down, and it seemed like it was intentional. :x
December 1, 200420 yr i guess i still don't get it yet. brt? it's just a typical doubled-sized artic bus, what's the big deal? actually i generally hate artic busses because when they come in yeah nice the bus is bigger, but service is decreased as less busses come by! watch what happens it'll be fewer busses coming along you'll see! that's what happened when these big artic busses came to major nyc manhattan cross streets a couple years ago. i went from six busses on my street to four artic busses at rush hour. so now i wait longer for the bus. and do i have to say it but of course when they come they come they come two (or three) at a time!!! also, the euc brt looks like it directly competes with the rapid red line in east cleveland, how's that going to work and maintain ridership if it's double dipping side by side along the same paths? why not run it down cedar to cleveland hts or loop up around st. clair or superior instead? otoh, don't get me wrong i'm glad for the project. mostly for the renovated streetscape improvements. its better than nothing since dual-hub went down in flames. it will definately look good and be an attractive looking amenity to euclid avenue. it will help spur development along the way yes indeed so all in all it's a good thing!
December 2, 200420 yr i do kind of wonder what this "ETB-Only Zone" downtown is also its not just the typical articulated bus shape, its "train bus" or something like that. The way it looks is different. and the news calls it "the new rapid line" so i dunno. Its a dedicated lane. And that tends to be what i want when riding public transit.

Well Im not sure about this "artic" bus thing but according to the literature buses will infact run more frequently, a pace a rush hour which is about once per 5 minutes. It will also improve service as I understand it because at one point many bus routes cover Euclid and now once runs the entire stretch from DT PSQ to East Cleveland. We will just have to wait and see.
December 3, 200420 yr lol! thats exactly what they always say, that it'll improve service. do you really think one will come every five minutes? even a subway does not come that often. so yeah we'll see. however, it'll definately look good and thats actually important. ps--to clarify an artic bus is an articulated bus. it looks like two busses put together with and accordian turn platform in the middle so the bus can turn. many cities use them. i'm not sure if cleveland or cinci does (columbus could sure use them up&down high street). if yr interested and want to see them in action the closest nearby i know for sure they use them is in pittsburgh around the pitt campus.

Is this the reason that Euclid is currently torn to shreds in between downtown and the Cleveland Clinic? Almost lost my car to a gigantic hole on that street, I couldn't believe they actually kept it open.

I can ship you all the starts you want, fresh from the riverbank and railroad near my house. They're fast-growing and thrive in an urban environment and if you plant two per block, in a few years you'll have thousands!

March 27, 200520 yr I'd be interested to know what these streetscapes will look like. They're rebuilding the sidewalks, but are they going to add planters or anything to make them look nice? At any rate, it seriously needs done. I've never seen a city with worse sidewalks than downtown Cleveland's right now.

The meeting was informative as far as the overall process and concepts but they haven't selected finalists yet. First, they discussed things that will be installed over the entire scope of the project. Things like lighting, tree grates, etc.: More of the overall stuff - hardscaping (aka pavement with a stylized treatment): They also discussed some of the inspiration for the concept artists (artists who were selected as overseers, not necessarily the final artists): Use of 'applause' imagery and textile industry motifs: This concept is by Nancy Dwyer who did the "Who's On First?" and "Meet Me Here" sculptures at Gateway: Signage will be unified with a similar style - districts identified by distinctive color and symbols: Oral histories will be installed with infoscreens: They designated four areas as "landmarks" of the corridor and these are the places where the bigger installations will go: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

Of course they have to do more vertical trees that won't gain significant width, but hopefully there'll be a little more to them than the ones we're seeing in Ferrarienzo's pics...

But maybe they are worried that the overruns will mean that the project won't go forward and they would be wasting their money on us.
