Jam40Jeff was worrying a few pages back about his July 5th wedding at the Union Club and his guests staying at the Wyndham. I'm sure he's got to feel a little better.

:-D

Just saw this morning that they are pouring the cement at the E. 12th St. corner.

For your listening pleasure...

from 9:06-9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, on WCPN 90.3 FM, RTA General Manager Joe Calabrese will speak about the ODOT Task Force public meeting.

And now that the surface is finally being laid, I find out that it's asphalt. Wow... Crossings have been added in some places (which is great), but they've been taken out at others (Adelbert) where some of the highest pedestrian numbers in the County can be found. Sidewalk seating has been rendered illegal by the placement of landscape planters in places and what can I say about those lovely signal/electric boxes that are all over the corridor...

Any chance some kind soul wants to do a photo thread of some of the ECP negatives (wear and tear, construction flaws, design flaws, conspicuous mechanicals, etc.)?

Why, specifically, should anyone want to do this?  What do you hope it will achieve?

^For real?  Well for one thing, because multiple people have brought them up and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious to see these issues.  For another, the project is still being built, so flaws have a better chance of being corrected now than they will when the construction is "finished" in a few months.  What's wrong with citizen policing of a massive public works projects? Jeez, it's not like I'm some Cleveland.com anti-transit nut-job!

I couldn't listen to that at work.  Could someone give a summary?

Jeez, it's not like I'm not some Cleveland.com anti-transit nut-job!

You're just a general "nut-job"! :-D

^Yikes, I guess there was an extra "not" in there.  To clarify, I'm not a nut-job, anti-transit or otherwise.

I didn't know if you have a specific agenda, were just looking for random dirt, or what.  I'm not sure it really helps to have us go over and make a list of "flaws" before the project is completed and punchlist items are done.  If that happens, and there are still flaws in the construction, then I would say some citizen policing is in order.  Before then I would think this is getting in the way, not helping.

^Well I doubt any photo taking and posting would actually get in RTA's way, but I agree its premature to consider any condition issues to be permanent until the construction is completed.  But c'mon, I wasn't asking for a damning expose on supposed RTA incompetence or anything- nor would I call it random dirt.  I'm 400 miles from the project so can't walk through it myself regularly.  I very much appreciate the official RTA progress presentations delivered to the board and posted by JeTDog and the photos posted by others, but I'm also really interested in some design and quality critique from the considerable expertise and experience represented by the posters here and some visuals to illustrate.

As someone who is 500 miles away and has been following the project pretty carefully I would also appreciate some visuals so that I can see what everyone is talking about.

As someone who is 3000 miles away from the EC, I, too, would appreciate some visuals to know what all this stink is about.

haha I'm farthest!

It's not a contest!  But so far I'm in second place.

Oh nevermind......    Im only 380. :|

4548 miles. Beat that.

I hate being this far away, I can never see anything that's going on. I always have to wait months later for it to appear in the photos thread.

No really, its not a contest, its the Euclid Corridor Thread.

^I promise I didn't mean to start a contest!

Jerry (or anyone else, for that matter), could you describe the "docking" mechanism/process that the new transit vehicles will employ at the new stations?  I've read references to it a few times on this thread but can't seem to find any sort of detailed description.  I'm curious what exactly this means (and I have all sorts of science-fictiony images racing through my head).

Just saw the new silver Route #6 bus driving around Public Square.  They certainly are sharp looking.

OK... I decided to give Mayday some time off and snapped a few pics during my lunchtime walk.  Warning: My work camera stinks and I am not a photographer... no making fun

1.  They are finally starting to put the median curbs in down by PS and have also begun work on the transit stop.  Also note in the background the brown paper in the May Co. window.  They are gutting the "Public Square Tech Ctr"... I have not heard what is going in.

2.  This area in front of Vivo / East 4th and the NW quad of E. 9th are really the last two bottomless holes of the corridor.

3.  That's a lot of rebar!  Construction of the East 6th station... I loved the panel handler who used to walk around with a hard hat telling people his truck ran over some rebar and he needed money to call his boss.  I think he thought if he used the term rebar it would sound official.

4.  A tonka truck removes the last bit of sidewalk by the Nat City building.

5.  The latest of the two-way shelters was put in place Monday night just East of 9th.

6.  The brick sidewalks are complete on the north side all the way from 9th to the statler...

7.  I'm sure Jam40Jeff will be pleased to know they are prepared to pour the last segment of roadway in front of the Union Club a whole 2.5 weeks before his wedding... now about those sidewalks...

8.  A bunch of extra granite curbs sitting on 12th.  MTS, try not to get arrested.

9.  They have resumed brick sidewalk work at Playhouse Square heading west.

10.  They just completed brickwork all around the new 13th street station yesterday.

11.  The completed 13th street station... which also happens to make a nice lunch room...

PS... I am apparently galactically incompetent with photos... so I just added them to the end.

I can see now!  Thanks for the update!

Mayor McCleveland Nice....E 12 you say.....

Also, you might want to host your pics on www.photobucket.com or www.flickr.com

I see 'em. You're not giving yourself enough credit McCleveland. I think you take nice pics. This is my fave...

Awesome!  Lifted my spirits mightily.  The brick sidewalks look great!

The east-bound half of the Clinc-stretch (around 100th and 101st Streets) seems to be almost done.  I expect them to be working on the westbound side next week.

A couple things from today.

1.  I think this 36"x36" granite marker laid in the sidewalk in front of the city club is awesome.  I REALLY hope more businesses / buildings do this.

2.  A patio is going in at Teresa's Pizza... I'd assume that means one for Jimmy John's is coming soon.

wow...i like!

Question, are they tearing out the sidewalk that was just installed????

They remove a couple bricks and plant the base for the fense, then cut brick around the base.  This way the posts can be pulled in and out depending on the season... just like east 4th.

OK..wanted to make sure.. I've got to watch my tax dollars.

hey, stay off my stoop!

Oh, and the garage door at May Co. is back open again. Sub-walls are up, and there's wood and fun stuff being dropped off.

They also had some of the "new" Euclide Avenue planters coming today.  They were going to set them up in front of the park building to see how they looked / take some pictures, etc.  Unfortunately i got tired of waiting around and left before they arrived.  if you are in the area, you may want to check it out, because it's possible the planters are there right now.

I guess they would be new, since "Euclide" Avenue would be a brand new street in Cleveland.   :-D :-D

Those are some bad-ass buses.

I love the old folks looking at the bus.....They "identify".

^I do wish they would have covered the wheel wells of the front tires, like the rear ones... it looks a little more train like that way.

That's what all the cool people are calling it these days MTS.

And Mayday that is the new planter... it's about 4' tall and looks a little like a blossoming flower.  it will be filled with dirt and flowers hang out... it's actually quite cool.

LAWD!  Good one Kiddo!

It would be pretty hard to make a turn with those on the front.

sh*t.

That would look more futuristic though!  :-)

What if instead of having to turn they just sort of put the vehicles on a guideway or rail of some sort?

Thanks, MayDay for the shots!

Those are some bad-ass buses.

Buses?  I think you mean "transit vehicles."

And anyone else think Key needs to hire an arborist?

Nice pics :).  I hadn't seen the new buses yet.

How/where do they turn those things around to go the opposite direction?

^They loop around Public Square at the western end of the line.  At Windermere, they either loop around the parking lot or an adjacent bus loop (not sure which).

They'll turn them using several downtown streets (ie: three right turns and a left turn) and, at the Windermere station, there's lots of room at its bus loop lane to turn them.

^Interesting- they won't just loop around the Square?  I guess they need an area to gather to stay on schedule.

I can't remember if those are the streets they'll use or not. But even if they are and the bus is westbound, they'll still be making three right turns and left turn around the square! ;)

Pardon the nit-pick, but couldn't they have centered it in the lighter brick? Or if the logo is in fact centered in front of the door, couldn't they have filled the brick in evenly around it?

That said, it's a really nice touch!

I think it is more distracting in the composition of the photo than it is in the composition of the overall streetscape.

The new buses (photos above) are definitely attractive.  The overhead wires are gone from Euclid Avenue.  I'm ready to ride!

It is indeed centered on the doorway.  And the granite marker was installed well after the sidewalks were completed.  And X is right, though it may look a little off in the photo, it blends right in in the vast and large streetscape.
