This is common throughout the project, but there at E 6 especially. Walk signs don't come on when they really should. You'll wait through several cycles of the traffic light and it never says walk, even when there's no earthly reason not to. This undermines the push against jaywalking because it seems like gratuitous holdup.

Also, having each intersection be 24-hr No Turn On Red seems unnecessary. Turning from a sidestreet into the car lane of Euclid doesn't involve the middle bus lanes at all. Neither does turning off of Euclid. These lights are extra-long, and enforcing No Turn on Red at late-nite deserted interesections breeds unhealthy contempt for the system. Plus, forcing people to sit when they could go exacerbates rush hour bottlenecks.

Maybe people should start taking mass transportation instead. :)

I agree wholeheartedly, but I think that we can get there faster if the uninitiated aren't led to associate public transportation with measures they're likely to consider draconian and restrictive.

That's true too.

lafont, are the other routes running in the bus only lanes? and do you know if they will continue to once the healthline opens?

Yes, the 32 is now running in the transit lane, and I read the 7 and 9 are also. Hence, the many 32 stops this a.m. Needless to say, we weren't picking up anyone right behind the 6 though, technically, someone on our bus, which came from the suburbs, could have wanted to exit on Euclid (I don't think anyone did 'til around CSU).

Hopefully a new BRT schedule will alleviate this, but if they're to run every five minutes many hours a day it would seem we'd be right behind a BRT very frequently!

Per our Service Quality Manager, the #7X and #9X will be using the Euclid Avenue bus lanes effective today, 10/20, but the #32X will continue on its present routing until next Monday, 10/27, at which point it too will begin using the Euclid Avenue bus lanes.

Any #32X buses running in the Euclid Avenue bus lanes prior to 10/27 are doing so in error, and this will be corrected. If you see any #32X buses in the Euclid Avenue bus lanes prior to 10/27, please note the time, day, and coach number, and let us know so that we can follow up with the operator. Your assistance is appreciated.

I'm glad the guy from Galluci's came on and said, "RTA did everything they promised" after the reporter said "some businesses didn't make it".

He should have informed the public what business closed and what their financial status as BEFORE the start of the HealthLine.

Action 19 never gives you the full story.

I was with Harry Boomer the entire time. Given the natural time constraints of TV, he did a great job -- not something I can say about every TV story that deals with public transit.

Well thanks for informing me of that.

I would have liked to have that omitted, since that leave doubt and misinformation for the haters.  I just wish he could have also spoke about how many new business have opened and or how many confirmed project are in the pipeline.

I'm trying to take my personal opinion out and make sure the priority of the project is identified and explained to the general public.

^^ Thank you, Jerry. I had hoped that was the case and appreciate your confirming it.

In the meantime, just walk when you see an opening!

And hey -- let's be careful out there.... (kudos to anyone under the age of 30 who gets the reference :-) )

Thanks.  Now I can't get that theme music out of my head.

Just saw a 6 bus riding down the auto lane.  Aren't they all supposed to be in the dedicated transit lane?

where did you see it?  I don't think they are physically capable of running on the transit lanes from 18th in because of the center platforms (and doors being on the wrong side)... Am I making that up, can someone confirm it?

Does the 6 go away when the HL is up and running?

I believe you are correct

Yes

I saw one west of Public Square but, come to think of it, I think I first noticed the 6's taking the bus lane when Euclid Ave. was closed off, say, west of E.14th Street.  I just haven't looked likely but you're probably right - they do run in the auto lane downtown 'til they hopefully come to a crashing halt by this Friday.

speaking of... exactly TWO days until the ribbon cutting.  I am ecstatic.

I'm sure a number of UO photogs will be at the festivities on the 24th. I'm going to get some video. Anyone interested in meeting up and forming an unofficial/freelance UO "press" contingent? Power in numbers you know...

I'll still be at work at Case... :(  *Stomps feet*

Don't worry, there be other BRT Grand Ribbon Cuttings.

I saw ALOT of BRTs running up and down Euclid today. They were also removing a lot of the E line signs. Will that service stop once the Healthline is fully operational?

Downtown trips on bus route #32 switch from Carnegie Avenue to the new bus lanes on Euclid Avenue, between Stokes Boulevard and East 17th Street. They will stop at every HealthLine station along the route.

The E-Line trolley returns to its original operating hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. It will continue to operate in the curb lane from Public Square to Cleveland State University.

Is Euclid Avenue open in front of Playhouse Square?  I have tickets to David Byrne and I want to tell my out-of-town friends what to expect when they drive here this evening.  thanks

I ride the #6 to work on days I don't bike, and I have noticed this week that adding the 7 and 9x to the bus lanes on Euclid seems to have caused some backups.  It has been very common to see 3 or 4 busses in a row, with a 7 and a 9x stuck behind 2 #6s or something similar.  Also, my bus has been much later than normal lately.  I'm hoping the opening of the HealthLine fixes this, I would hate to see the new BRT vehicles commonly held up behind a normal #7 or 9x.

Are the 7s and 9s dropping at the curb downtown?  I still don't get how they can use all the stations, with their right-only doors.

^ I would assume so, the 6 stops at the curb downtown.

Also, one day to go!

No, I think the 7s, 9s, and 32s are and will be only in the bus lanes, right?  Unless they change to the curb lane between Playhouse Square and the Square.  Actually I don't know if any of them will go down Euclid to the Square - probably not.

Yes, and has been for some time, with no closures anticipated for the weekend. The ribbon cutting will be taking place on lower Euclid between Public Square (East Roadway) and E 6. The #6 and E-Line trolley will be detoured as detailed here: http://www.riderta.com/nu_ridersalerts_list.asp?listingid=1144.

Currently on 90.3 WCPN there is a live show about the ECP.

I stopped by there while walking to meet somebody this morning - talked with them but the mics weren't on yet.  It was fun because I pretended to be an average citizen who knows nothing but is just very excited about Cleveland & the Healthline - when they went on about the new apartments, condos, development, I just smiled & exclaimed how wonderful it is.  Hah, what a good time!

Nice UO ambush!

I heard at least one UO poster on the show this morning (Guv).  He was VERY enthusiastic, which is normal for him.  This project is all about the people!

Quick question: will I be able to take the HealthLine down to the event tomorrow (from Univ. Circle) or will I be on the old school #6?  I'm trying to get some co-workers to make the trip down with me and this would be a big selling point!

What a great day out on the corridor... I wish I had brought my camera.  There are crews furiously finishing flower planting in all of the beds (mums I think) which add a LOT more color to the center of the road.  I saw crews putting banners on the light poles, and all the fare boxes were having the cardboard taking off.  Wow, the new fare boxes actually look like fare boxes from a real transit system, not the antiquated ones that look like they're from 1965 on the rest of the system.

Quick Question:  Are these machines going to be accepting credit/debit cards right away they way it appears they are set up to do? (Please Transit Gods let the answer be yes... lack of this function is the number one reason I don't use our transit system more)

I like the look of the new fare boxes as well.  I'm curious to see the new flowers and banners on my ride home.  When I walked around Euclid near east 40th at lunch, the only change I noticed was the uncovered fare box.

^Most of what I saw happening was between 14th and public square...

pictures???

sorry, no camera today... I'm sure there will be many many to take tomorrow.  :)

Yeah I didn't really expect to see anything over here, but figured there was a small chance of something happening

fare machines should take credit / debit from the start, although each transaction will have to be authenticated with RTA and the bank, so i'm not sure how quick it will be in practice.  the machines you see on euclid were built for cleveland - they are a bit smaller than NJ and LA systems which use same company.  they can only hold a couple of types of fare media, so you'll only be able to buy all day passes and single trips from these machines.  the "pay fares here" sign is also being replaced by a map of euclid ave and either better/more consistent lighting or a light diffuser.  in the coming weeks the machines will be have spanish instructions as well.

the machines can also communicate via cellular link, so hopefully if this is successful on redline and healthline, the proof of payment system can be extended to the green and blue lines so that all of our rail system has a consistent payment method.

one other interesting feature of the larger machines (16 total, in tower city and few other places) is that the machines use coins and bills used to purchase fare media as a source of change for additional purchases, supposedly cutting down on change/bill refills.

What show was it?  I'd like to try to find it on their website.

That's too bad.

That's good to hear, because they look pretty cheap with that current setup.

Also, new banners in University Circle:

Another question: is anything planned for the curved side of the kiosks at each station?  Other than political stickers and scribble graffiti?

Oh, nice!  That just happened during the day today!  I was wondering if they were going to put up banners.  There are always so many banners around UC that I thought it looked weird without them!

^^Thanks for the shots, Map Boy...and in advance, thanks to everyone who posts shots in the next few days of the system opening...I am sick that I can't be there for it!  But man am I excited.

Some more pics from inbetween playhouse square and east 9th.  I think the banners and the new flowers make a big difference.  And in addition to being absolutely giddy about having "real" fare boxes, the interactive map is amazing (3rd to last pic).  It has everything.  I played with it for a bit.  In addition to having lots of updated info about locations, it has tons of history.  You can even access audio played with slideshows of historical photos.  KJP will be so pleased the even have a whole audio / photo presentation to the old Cleveland subway plans!

What an amazing transformation!  :-D :-D :-D

Great Pics.
