Posted June 18, 200717 yr The current south terminus of the streetcar takes you to an Aerial Tram (like a ski-lift) that wisks you up to the hill-top where there is a cluster of hospitals - the base of the area near the riverfront is going vertical with offices and condos. Debit card friendly parking meters - awesome  Urban designers take note - a drive-in drive-through gas station.
June 18, 200717 yr Interesting gas station, that's one way to make it fit into the urban neighborhood. The skylift would look great in Cincy or even one going across the river.
June 18, 200717 yr Debit card friendly parking meters - awesome You said it...wow! As someone who rarely carries change, I'd love to see these in Ohio.
June 18, 200717 yr Great photo set! I need to take a trip to Portland so I can see what all the fuss is about.
June 19, 200717 yr Nice! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 19, 200717 yr Debit card friendly parking meters - awesome You said it...wow! As someone who rarely carries change, I'd love to see these in Ohio. Cincinnati has had these kind of parking meters along 3rd street for a few years now. They will be the types of meters used in The Banks as well.
June 19, 200717 yr Nice! The new high-rise and urban development is taking on a fast pace. While it is not a Dubai by any stretch of the imagination, it is a very strong sign that America (or at least this nice corner of the states) is changing. I don't know about you, but when I am in my road bike and traveling fast, the lane pictured here seems to be a bit... narrow.
June 20, 200717 yr Wow, great set! Definitely makes me want to visit. BTW, how is that drive-in, drive-through gas station setup inside? Is it a single line of cars? How many cars do they refuel at once?

How many cars do they refuel at once? The place doubles as a taxi livery and includes gas pumps inside - it was too dark so the pic I took inside didn't come out - There were four pumps and the place was busy as you can see from the pic we were backed up on the street. I was downtown four a week and this was the only gas station I saw in the downtown area.

Cincy Area, read me loud and clear... MAKE IT SO!!!
June 25, 200717 yr ^ I think an ariel tram from Broadway Commons to the plot of land directly north of old Holy Cross Church on St. Paul Street in Mt. Adams could work. Holy Cross then could be redeveloped as the multi-use terminal at the top. The lower terminal would be at Gilbert and say an extended Central Parkway (just north of Greyhound if you google map it) and becomes a multi-modal hub for light rail up the I-71 corridor and across to the existing subway tunnels under Central Parkway AND an ariel tram to Mt. Adams. Imagine the downtown and OTR views from the tram. People might complain that the piers and trams then obsure views from homes on say Ida or Elsinore but I don't think thay would be too bad.

If you pace yourself approaching stoplights to avoid having to come to a full stop, it's possible to coast on your bike, neither stopping nor pedaling, all the way from the top of Twin Peaks to the Ferry Terminal.

That was a proposal another Planner made in a freshman studio of mine. We had to do an analysis/redevelopment proposal a particular area...the team that had Mt. Adams proposed almost exactly that (without the subway details).

I mean not only would it be an alternate form of transportation, it would be a fun form of transportation. And it'd be something unique for the area. *keeps dreaming*
