Posted June 22, 200717 yr A fun little town just 15 minuets from OU Chillicothe. The only zip better than OSU's Rowhouses!
June 22, 200717 yr Wow, someone else has discovered Greenfield! Good show, Ink. This is the most unexpected place. It’s deep in the VMD, miles from a four lane highway, yet it’s a fairly large town, somewhere between county seat size and rural village size. The Pythian Temple! I can think of a few street corners in Dayton where I would put that building.
June 22, 200717 yr Very nice. Did you get a chance to take any pictures of the high school? That's what impressed me most about Greenfield. (It certainly wasn't the gas stations and fast food restaurants in and at the edge of downtown).
June 22, 200717 yr ^I drove by the side of the high school and could tell it was a neat structure, but I wanted to get to Washington Court House before dark, so I didn't stop.
June 22, 200717 yr Gottcha. I took some picture of Greenfield last summer, including some pictures of the high school, but never posted them on here. That got me interested in find out more about the high school and I was able to find a great history of the high school. The impressive thing is they were able to use Ohio School Facilities Commission's money to renovate and keep their historic high school--what a concept!!!
June 22, 200717 yr Ba da ba ba ba...I'm lovin' it! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 22, 200717 yr I was project architect on this restoration a few years ago. I am very proud of how it turned out. You should've seen it before. It was covered in permastone and many in town wanted to tear it down. Unfortunately, I don't have any digital "before" photos.
June 23, 200717 yr A fun little town just 15 minuets from OU Chillicothe. I'll be honest...from the photos, it doesn't look to be all that 'fun' of a place.
June 24, 200717 yr never heard of the place. it looks nice. and thx dfly the hs and hs campus is interesting too.
June 24, 200717 yr The Ohio School Facilities Commission is horribly biased against old buildings, and the whole process skews the numbers in favor of tearing down buildings like the high school in Greenfield and putting up soulless new buildings surrounded by asphalt on the edge of town. Greenfield's success was the exception, rather than the rule.
September 19, 201311 yr A fun little town just 15 minuets from OU Chillicothe. I'll be honest...from the photos, it doesn't look to be all that 'fun' of a place. We have more fun now than we might have then...in addition to our annual summer festival, we have added Oktoberfest (Sept 28), a Winter Blues Festival, Light Up City Hall (Christmas Musical Light & Parade program), an annual town scavenger hunt in spring and two annual community yard sale events! We also have a weekly farmers market and have experimented with various 'boogie on the blacktop' days around town just for fun in the summer! Our Historical Society puts on annual History Day and Ghost Walk events that are informative and entertaining. I'm sure I am leaving some other items out, but you get the idea! Come on and visit us and take some more pictures. 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the McClain school buildings and we are planning a nice celebration for that now. If you like history, we have several books written by a former superintendent of our schools and published author that he published in the 1950's as well as picture books that were recently published by our historical society featuring rare photos of Greenfield along with the history describing the photos and events. web greenfieldohio.net/index.html
