Ouch!  That sucks.  One of my best friends husbands ended their marriage via email.  He then ran off to Canada.  Double ouch!

Hey.  It is what it is.  All I can say is "his loss".  Although the MoFo could have told me before I gave him a xmas gift!

Always get the present or dinner first before breaking up....

I can't fault him for that.  Maybe I'll call the police and say the gift I gave him was "stolen".  hummmm  >:D

Laaaawd.  Actually, that's the outfit I was gonna buy you, PLUS I was going to throw in a pair of the Kadarshian Skechers Shape ups!

That's one thing I hate about text messaging. I think it's good if you just have something quick you want to say and don't want to bother someone until they're ready to read it but the problem with text is that people use it for conversations they should really be more confrontational about. I bet back in the day people thought it was weird to break up over the phone. Now it's even crazier. I know people who didn't even know their relationships were off until their girlfriends changed her facebook status'.

We've spoken, he felt bad about doing it via text, but he told me he couldn't do it face to face.

It's not about me or him, it's my lifestyle, he can't handle it and I warned him in advance, but completely understand his feelings.

All that sitting in front of the computer and posting on UO was too much for him? Hey, the life isn't for everyone.

Na he couldn't deal with my schedule. There are times when I'm not home for 6/7/8 days; a week or two weeks.  In addition, I think my family scared him.  He made the comment, "there are just so many of them".

Is it me, or do the men on the "west" side have a different attitude than men on the "east" side?  Or is it that I'm just enjoying my new found freedom a little TOO much?

At the risk of purposely starting an "eastside"/"westside" pissing contest, the official answer to your question is YES!

I told you to stay on the Eastside!

At the risk of sounding slutty, the men on the west side seem to be into me a little more.  I don't know what that's all about, but if I would have know this, I would have moved four years ago!

What's a good first date movie that's on DVD?  Anyone?

texas chainsaw massacre!

Fight Club.

HAH as you say that law & order is on and the episode features a juvenile fight club.

Hah! :P

Fight Club was a good movie. I don't know, what do you expect us to recommend, Emmie? lol Eat Pray Love?

I think movies are terrible for first dates. I would go out and do something with the person, instead. Get to know them instead of staring at a screen together.

As strange at it may seem, Fight Club somewhat inspired me to move out of my suburban concrete box apartment and buy a house in the city.

I agree that a movie isn't a good idea for a first date.  I want to interact with the person, to get to know them better.  I guess an exception might be if you expect to watch the movie in a MST3K style; you could get to know each other through your commentary of the movie.

:wtf: Fight Club - Bad for first dates, great increasing for UO readership.

good for you? good for him? good for the both of you?

here is a random list of recent DVD/Blue ray releases that as a man I would consider watching.

"Machete"

"Easy A"

"Salt"

"Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"

"Family Guy: It's a Trap!"

"The Other Guys"

"Inception"

"The Kids Are All Right"

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World"

There are others such as Eat Pray Love that I might consider watching if you were my soul mate but not a good idea for an "early" date.  unless you don't want another one.

you can find a complete list of recent releases here

If you are talking about ANY movie.....well that depends.

Casablanca

Pink Panther

Cleopatra Jones

Omega Man

The life of Brian

You probably need to know the person pretty darn well to actually pick a good first date movie.

The first movie I saw with my wife was Talladega nights:  The ballad of Ricky Bobby.  That worked out pretty well.

My first date with my now wife, we went to the movies to see Sleepers. I wouldn't recommend it as a first date movie. After the movie we looked at each other and said something to the effect of "ok.....so I'll see you later...." End of date.

Well, I went to the library last night and got a PLETHORA of movies to choose from.  If he doesn't like those, we can always go to RedBox, although I'm not sure if this is even a "date" or not, so we shall see.

I love the concept of moving to a dilapidated old mansion in a lost neighborhood, from a bland apartment building/complex.  Though, in my case, reality is quite watered down from what happened in the movie.

Sorry for getting off-topic...

Date last night was kind of a bust.  We watchted The Hangover, and he didn't find it funny at all.  He came over high.  Then, at the end of the night, he started teasing me like a little sister, hugged me, and that was that.  Any thoughts?

How do you not find the hangover funny?  what does he think is funny?

Thoughts:

not that into you...move on.  Sounds like "friend" material, if he is worthy of being a friend.

who shows up to a "date" high?  somebody who isn't putting forth the minimal amount of effort required.

My brother always says  90% of life is showing up...if he can't be bothered to "show up"

on time

showered  w/ deodorant and clean clothes

straight

he has not put in the absolute bare minimum required for a second date.

I couldn't be a drinking buddy with somebody who didn't find the Hangover funny.

That is my .02

Totally agree.  What kills me, is I could have been with ANOTHER guy last night and instead chose him!

Why is it that when you totally forget about one guy, totally write him off, he calls you and comes back into your life?

I would not have answered!

I didn't answer, he left me a VM.  BUT, I'm a sucker for a pretty face and emailed him the next day.

Sounds like he contacted you when whatever he had going on didnt work out.  Kinda like you were number 2.

Or maybe he feared change, and now that change has come and found him he's free to pursue his true heart's desire.  It's a glass half full day.

I like this thought A LOT more!

hey, taking a date to botanical gardens on weds.  any advice on where to eat nearby?  maybe a good sushi joint?

^ Pacific East on Coventry is alwasy pretty good. Don't know if that's too far for you, though.

Or maybe it did work out, and now onto the next......all sorts of possibilities about this person we've never met.

Much as I love UO, Emmie, you might get better relationship advice from someone who knows at least one of you.

I couldn't be a drinking buddy with somebody who didn't find the Hangover funny.

I thought the Hangover was only mildly funny. I can't watch movies where bad things happen to people and its supposed to be funny. I couldn't finish watching Meet the Fockers and as soon the zipper incident happened in Something About Mary I shut that off too.

Just about any movie with Ben Stiller (or Rob Schneider, or Chris Farley, etc etc) is pretty much off limits for me. They're all pretty idiotic and juvenile to me.

OMG. Something KJP and I are in complete agreement on! *dies of shock*  I agree with your post 100%.  My family refers to them as the "oh sh*t" movies. Anything where the humor is the equivalent of a guy standing on the edge of a pool, waving his arms and trying not to fall in and going "whoooaaaah, shiiiiiiiit" is not funny.

Well, it's safe to say that KJP and I won't be dating.

I was about to jump on the Hate Ben Stiller Bandwagon until There's Something About Mary got brought up. That movie is funny! I loved it. That's the only Ben Stiller movie I liked. The zipper scene was more painful to watch than funny.

Stiller has quite a few fun films.  Along Came Polly, Dodgeball, the Ben Stiller Show (MTV and Fox versions), Meet the Parents, Something About Mary, Tropic Thunder, Greenberg, Mystery Men, and Keeping the Faith are all entertaining.  I'm probably missing one or two other good ones.

I'm perpetuating the off topicness of the thread, but I loved the Ben Stiller Show. Have it on DVD. All 13 episodes. I think he peaked then, and in everything else I've been waiting for him to recapture that magic.

But, you know...dating...yeah. Um. Glad I don't have to anymore....

I think it depends on how much money the old codger has. ;)
