December 16, 201014 yr KJP At least you can tell her the weather is the same. She might even have 'cousins' here. You might have to move to Tremont though... Or Parma and their Ukrainian Village. But I also have St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Birdtown which is maybe a mile from my home. Lana is well aware that Cleveland is home many Ukrainian ex-pats and that the Ukrainian archives in Tremont is the largest in America. December 16, 201014 yr Personally, I think you should have pulled the switcheroo and gone after the translator, but I can see how the language barrier could be viewed as a plus...
December 16, 201014 yr Good luck KJP. I hope it works out this time. Is there a trade-in option availible? I might be interested...
December 16, 201014 yr Yes, the translator was very hot, but very married. Actually, there weren't many ugly Ukrainian women that I saw, and many would be mistaken for models in the U.S. They are also educated and sweet as well. I am not very trusting, so I thought that the site I used to meet Lana was publishing photos of only their best-looking women. But I discovered that most Ukrainian women looked that good. But too many of their men treat their women like sh!t, so they are willing to leave their country and their families to start their own. EDIT: I also met this cutie, who really liked me but I only had an hour to spend with her (long story). Her name is Irina... December 16, 201014 yr I've had a real rash of big women come after me this fall. I'm skilled at deflecting their advances since for reasons unknown I've been attracting them steadily since 5th grade.
December 17, 201014 yr EDIT: I also met this cutie, who really liked me but I only had an hour to spend with her (long story). Her name is Irina... She's cute, but a little blurry for my tastes.
December 17, 201014 yr Here's pictures from recent dates (in the Ukraine).... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,25042.0.html Yes, I shopped for "Russian mail order brides"! FWIW, a friend of mine from HS did the same thing. Happily married with 2 kids now.
December 17, 201014 yr But it does know expense. And distance creates expense. This would be much easier if I was rich, but I'm committed to making it work. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

December 17, 201014 yr Mail-order brides!? Good lord! So what are the statistics on these hot, well-educated women from Europe marrying American men, becoming citizens then filing for divorce?
December 18, 201014 yr I am not very trusting, so I thought that the site I used to meet Lana was publishing photos of only their best-looking women. But I discovered that most Ukrainian women looked that good. But too many of their men treat their women like sh!t, so they are willing to leave their country and their families to start their own. Hah! Familiar story. The Ukraine isn't the only place with women a standard deviation above the mean in the looks department who get treated like crap by the men of the same country. My girlfriend (whom I also met online) is an MBA student at the University of Akron from India. Martin Luther's list of certain issues with the Catholic Church has nothing on her list of the collective flaws of Indian men. Meanwhile, she loves just about everything about America--except our immigration and visa laws. Can't honestly say I've been the biggest defender of my homeland on that front myself, and not just because she becomes an illegal immigrant if she doesn't have a job (with an employer that sponsors work visas, which isn't everyone) or a ring by the end of next year. She's already got a master's in chemical engineering and worked for several years at Cummins and Parker Hannifin, and now she'll be adding an MBA to that--and we might be kicking her out to take her skill set back to India and help their businesses compete with ours?! WTMFH?! /rant (for now ... can't guarantee that it won't return at some point ...) We didn't meet on a mail-order-bride site, though. We met the old-fashioned way ... eHarmony. :-D
December 18, 201014 yr Like I said love has no boundary's. My uncle followed my Aunt from Panama, to Puerto Rico, to Miami to Cleveland. The brotha was on a mission.

December 18, 201014 yr Like I said love has no boundary's. My uncle followed my Aunt from Panama, to Puerto Rico, to Miami to Cleveland. The brotha was on a mission. That is just a little creepy. :| Why is it creepy? They met at a pageant Cotillion, but he was not allowed to speak, let alone, dance with my Aunt. But he was able to talk to my mom for a minute. When he should up at their hotel the next day, he sat in the lobby until the Ms. Puerto Rico court came down. While they were waiting for their car he approached the pageant director and asked could he speak to my Aunt. She again, couldn't have a "conversation" with him but because his family is well respect and they were invited guest at the cotillion they allowed an formal introduction. Right when they had to depart, he asked my aunt if he could see here again, my aunt rolled up her formal handkerchief that had her surname on it and placed it in his hands so that nobody could see. They both said it was love at first site. I think it's sweet. Now the drama in between their first meeting and their actual getting together is a whole 'nother story!
December 18, 201014 yr ^That'd be creepy today, but in the old days it was charming. Exactly. You know these whippersnappers don't know anything about romance.

Well, the first way you described it made it seem creepy; "he followed her" without an explanation as why is what I found a little off. When you said that, it seemed like you meant he saw her one day, became obsessed and then followed her wherever she went until he could finally subdue her into submission.

December 23, 201014 yr Question: can a married man be friends with a single woman? Yes. Why couldn't they?
December 23, 201014 yr All the women at work seem to think no, and I was just curious. I don't have a problem with it at all.

December 23, 201014 yr Question: can a married man be friends with a single woman? Yes. Why couldn't they? Why indeed. A married man, and his wife, can be friends with a single woman, no problem. If he wants to be friends, and his wife is out of that loop, he wants to hit it. Sorry, that's just how guys are hard wired. Anyone telling you different is lying.

A married man that has single female friends OUTSIDE OF WORK that his wife doesn't really know or hasn't met is looking for some action. Close personal friendships between men and women almost always lead to some sort of sexual tension. It's the way humans are built...

December 23, 201014 yr I think you bring a different dynamic than what we're discussing here. Semantics!
December 23, 201014 yr >Question: can a married man be friends with a single woman? No. And they shouldn't be sending them direct messages on Twitter, etc., either. Also, married couples should NEVER have a roommate of any kind. This is so obvious, people!
December 24, 201014 yr Yes, married people can have single friends of either gender. The other spouse just has to take a leap of faith that it's platonic - that kind of trust is part of the marriage package

Close personal friendships between men and women almost always lead to some sort of sexual tension. It's the way humans are built... It's OK for married people to be friends with people of the other sex at work, church, school, etc. It's when you start doing things together (going out to eat, grabbing a drink, etc.) that things start to cross the line of inappropriateness. Even if nothing ever happens, it gives the spouse a reason to be suspicious, gives other people reason to start gossiping, might give one of the two of you the wrong idea and eventually someone is going to get their feelings hurt somehow.
December 24, 201014 yr Men continue to baffle me. The d-bag I was talking about earlier, emailed me this morning saying he's sorry he's been "so out of touch", but that he's been seeing that woman he went out with, and working a lot. Does he really think I care THAT much?
December 24, 201014 yr Question: can a married man be friends with a single woman? Hypothetically - yes Realistically - no Married men being friends with single women usually never turns out good. I'm not married but I do have a girlfriend, and I honestly feel I cannot just be "friends" with a female, especially if she's attractive. In my experiences, even if the chemistry is not there from the beginning, it tends to develop over time (and she doesn't even have to be attractive). I think AJ93 said it best: "A married man, AND his wife, can be friends with a single woman." Even then, I'm not sure it's "safe" but it has a much higher possibility of just remaining at the friend level. Unfortunately, a lot of times the significant other is out of the loop, and that's when he/she is most likely trying to "hit it". :shoot:
December 24, 201014 yr I'm not really following this discussion. I'm hardwired to find any one of my overweight, female friends attractive because she's married? Or I would be if I were married and any of them were single? I'm not physically attracted to fat people so where is this lust coming from?
December 24, 201014 yr I think the key is when the friendship was developed. I, for instance, have many female friends from the neighborhood who I knew well before I ever met my wife. A few of them are close to 'sister' status, since our friendship goes back to the diaper days. I can have lunch, go to a bar, etc with these girls and my wife won't flinch. On the other hand, if I told her I was going to meet some random girl I met at the bar last night... it would be smart of me to hide the scissors.
January 3, 201114 yr Ouch! That sucks. One of my best friends husbands ended their marriage via email. He then ran off to Canada. Double ouch!
