Posted July 7, 200717 yr Two gorgeous buildings. Plenty of talented photographers. Let's see your shots!
July 7, 200717 yr Terminal Tower: 1979 1985 2003 2005 LeVeque, 2006: To see all my Cleveland photos, click here. To see photos from the 2006 Columbus meet, click here. Edited 06-12-2009 by Robert Pence to fix broken links
July 7, 200717 yr It took me a moment to realize that rob_1412's second and third pics are "before and after" shots. Well done and what an improvement from the before shot that I'm assuming was taken between 1985-87.
July 7, 200717 yr Thought I'd go to the WayBack Machine for these views of the afterthought atop Cleveland's main train station (also known as Terminal Tower).... The Van Sweringens' original design concept for the station: Their reason for building it -- having a station downtown and a rapid transit link to their development of Shaker Heights: Ultimately grew many fold to a major rail station: Getting colorful back in the day: In the 1950s: The Tower de Terminus today: "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 7, 200717 yr Trying to start a fight with the Cincy forumers, huh? Not really... they can have their little competition. If it was the Carew tower in Cincinnati, it would probably have to be put up against one of the great skyscrapers in Chicago.

July 7, 200717 yr I smell a good ol' fashioned range war a-brewing.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

July 8, 200717 yr Perhaps the v. in the title of the topic could have been left out. It suggests a contest and invites competitive opinions that are not necessarily related to the topic. There are some interesting and historical photos here posted by some very talented photographers. I hope we all can put the competition aside and post more shots of these two very beautiful buildings.

July 8, 200717 yr well, i certainly love both. however, the terminal tower "looms" over cleveland a heck of a lot more -- in fact just like the empire state building does over nyc. this of course is due to the layout of clevo and columbus. the leveque would be more meaningful in the columbus skyline today if they didn't line up the buildings all in a long row chicago style. thats just the way it is, tho. still, leveque has come a long way from being "the middle finger of the midwest" or whatever it was that pilots used to call it for so many years. my looming terminal tower the regular shots looking straight up from the southside
July 8, 200717 yr My reaction so far: bravo Terminal Tower for not whoring out your pinnacle to the telecom racket.
July 9, 200717 yr Screw them all (meaning, Carew, Terminal, and LeVeque). I say let the grand-daddy of them all step forward: 1913 folks. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 9, 200717 yr Props to Chris on that nomination. PNC tower has a real classic design, and I've always liked the massive, strong-looking masonry at the base, too:
July 9, 200717 yr Screw them all (meaning, Carew, Terminal, and LeVeque). I say let the grand-daddy of them all step forward: For a second there I thought you were going to throw a Top of Troy.
July 9, 200717 yr Screw them all (meaning, Carew, Terminal, and LeVeque). I say let the grand-daddy of them all step forward: 1913 folks. ....and screw that shite too, we want polyester, disco & justice...we are talkin 1976 people. :-o
July 9, 200717 yr Back to topic please before someone whips out their Rhodes State Tower. Leveque looks good enough to eat: Cheers, Brewmaster!
July 9, 200717 yr Screw them all (meaning, Carew, Terminal, and LeVeque). I say let the grand-daddy of them all step forward: For a second there I thought you were going to throw a Top of Troy. *AHEM* You mean the National City Tower (now) :). July 9, 200717 yr I don't really like Leveque. I think it's way too small and skinny. BANNED!!! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Or National City CENTER, if you're gonna be that way. 'mon ColDay: Show us the towers (Leveque & Terminal)!

July 10, 200717 yr Damn I didn't know it had to much detail at the top. Its a shame its too high up for people to really see it.
July 14, 200717 yr you know what's sad, I've got completely used to the scaffolding on terminal tower.
July 14, 200717 yr Looking at Leveque has always left me a bit puzzled. As I look up the tower it starts to get really decorative near the top and just when it seems like I'm about to see something great...it flattens off and Im left looking at antennas. It seems like something much grander was supposed to be up there. That has always bugged me. I like both buildings, but the Terminal Tower wins for me.
July 14, 200717 yr Leveque Luvs Terminal.... ....sort of the way Chrysler Luvs Empire State? And where is the Carew Tower in this architectural menage et trois?
July 15, 200717 yr Looking at Leveque has always left me a bit puzzled. It seems like something much grander was supposed to be up there. That has always bugged me. I like both buildings, but the Terminal Tower wins for me. True: it seems as if something's missing atop the LeVeque. I think the leasing of building-tops as telecommunications rights-of-way should fall under the category of Taste Crime. Between Leveque and Rhodes State Tower, Columbus has public enemies #1 & #2.
July 16, 200717 yr Centre City is definately the "weirdest" of all the old dames of the state, that's for sure. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 16, 200717 yr Centre City is definately the "weirdest" of all the old dames of the state, that's for sure. I don't know. She has a certain dyslexic charm about her.
July 17, 200717 yr Okay, here are a bunch of substandard photos (cheap camera, dirty lens, three-year-old on shoulders) of Leveque. Sunday afternoon, me and the boy zipped down Neil to North Bank Park, parked, and then walked along the Scioto to COSI for the last day of The Science of Big Machines (a thinly veiled propaganda free-for-all for the Ohio Highway Contractors Association). The journey begins! Scioto Riverwalk, heading south from North Bank Park. And it burst forth from the tree line...THERE. R-L: Beauty, Beast. Federal Courthouse in foreground. Mondo Santa Maria. The only good immigrant is a memorialized immigrant. Sub-Broadstreet. Skyline with Machines. At the controls! Sullivant's Opinion. Goose Shit EVERYWHERE. The end. And a standard shot from the Archives. #1) From Confluence Parking Lot. Oh, Leveque.
July 17, 200717 yr Awesome pics koow. You should take some pics of some of the houses in Italian Village! That would be a fun thread.
July 17, 200717 yr My reaction so far: bravo Terminal Tower for not whoring out your pinnacle to the telecom racket. Hmmm.....I know there is/was a radio studio on the 52nd (top) floor, but I always assumed that there was telecom stuff between the 42nd floor observation deck and 52.
