I literally thought the exact same thing looking at those photos. Hopefully there is some plan for that. Heck, embrace the graffiti and create our own version of Wynwood Walls here.

August 21, 20231 yr I know it's somewhere in these 9 pages but what exactly is the layout of this new I-70/I-71/Rt. 315 interchange? "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

If you're asking about the Downtown Ramp Up project specifically: ODOT has construction scheduled through at least 2026, according to the factsheet. Work on the proposed Third, Fourth, and High street connections will begin in 2024. A few upcoming phases haven't received funding as of yet, but that should just be a formality. (I wouldn't expect the Downtown Ramp Up project to be completely finished til after 2030) There's lots of good info found in these links: https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/columbus/how-rebuilding-of-i-70-71-will-affect-downtown-columbus-streets/ https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects/projects/105523 https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects/mega-projects/mega-projects/downtown-ramp-up#:~:text=Project Description, direction on I-70%2F71
August 31, 20231 yr Pieces of the new freeway continue to arrive along Short Street for the Downtown Ramp Up project
September 7, 20231 yr (Not sure if this is the best place for this?) "Traffic through downtown Columbus will be rerouted this weekend as crews work on part of a key bridge. I-70 will be closed in both directions between State Route 315 and I-71 from 11:00 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday while crews install beams on a bridge that will eventually carry traffic from Fulton Street onto I-70 eastbound. This is part of the latest phase of the massive $1.4 billion Downtown Ramp Up series of projects reconstructing Interstates 70/71 in downtown Columbus to alleviate safety and congestion problems along one of the busiest traffic corridors in the state." The Front Street bridge will also be demolished this weekend while the freeway is closed. https://sunny95.com/news/061160-i-70-closed-downtown-for-the-weekend/

Still though, it's encouraging to see tangible process made. Looking at those untopped support beams has an unsettling effect on me.
September 8, 20231 yr More random ones from the southern edge of downtown- as parts of the Downtown Ramp Up project continue From Dodge Park From Mound St From Main St bridge
September 8, 20231 yr Project Update: Front Street Bridge to be Demo’d This Weekend as I-70 Work Continues Work continues on the multi-year, multi-billion dollar effort to untangle the I-70/71 split Downtown. This weekend, the South Front Street bridge that connects Downtown to the Brewery District will be demolished, meaning I-70 will be closed in both directions between State Route 315 and I-71 through September 11. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is suggesting drivers use I-670 as a detour. After the demolition, a new, wider bridge will be constructed with landscaped sidewalks and a park-like walkway on one side. The new bridge, which will also feature two-way vehicular traffic, is scheduled to be completed by spring of 2025. September 11, 20231 yr The old Front St bridge is history And a few more of the new freeway exit as it begins to take shape
September 11, 20231 yr At various times, I lived and worked in the blocks north and south of the Front Street bridge and walked over it frequently, sometimes with groceries from Kroger. It was a terrible experience in every possible way between the uneven sidewalks (later covered with asphalt), worn-out chain-link fence, free-flowing left turn from the highway ramp, and noisy traffic below.

These are questions that should be asked up front in any new infrastructure project but rarely seem to be part of the discussion.

But yeah, billions on 2 miles of freeway with 1/4 the life expectancy of rail... looking good!

Below is the image from ODOT showing how phase 2E was supposed to include the new bridge/ramp for I-70 West with the old one to be removed. ODOT will replace the WB I-70 bridge in a later phase. The alignment of SB I-71 to EB I-70, Parsons Avenue, and the current bridge of Main Street over I-71 did not allow for it to be done. The future SB I-71 to EB I-70 ramp will go in that trench on the lower middle side.
