July 10, 200717 yr Nice job! It's always interesting to see someone else's view of familiar places. This house is another one that was moved from the other side of downtown to save it from demolition. If I remember correctly, there are four houses in the neighborhood that were relocated -- two from the East Central/downtown area, and two within the neighborhood. All were placed on lots that previously had been cleared for parking.
July 10, 200717 yr hey ft. wayne. nice. i havent been in years, but isnt this where they have/had the neighborhood arts festival? thats a cool story about relocating historic houses on empty lots. great idea.
July 10, 200717 yr ^^Was this a city/preservation organization's efforts? Or did it just become a trend?

July 10, 200717 yr ^^Was this a city/preservation organization's efforts? Or did it just become a trend? The moves were joint efforts by West Central Neighborhood Association, local preservation group ARCH (Architecture and Community Heritage) and in some cases, corporate sponsors. After the houses were moved and set on new foundations and basements with essential utility connections, they were put up for sale to private owners, who completed the restorations. The two that were moved the greatest distance are both large brick structures, quite an accomplishment. hey ft. wayne. nice. i havent been in years, but isnt this where they have/had the neighborhood arts festival? There's a West Central Historic Home and Garden Tour in September that includes an arts fest at some backyard garden location, with local artists and musicians. Last year for the first time I was invited to take part, and did well selling photos. I plan to do it again this year.
July 10, 200717 yr Lovely neighborhood with a lot of character! Easy to see why someone of such great intelligence and taste would call this neighborhood home! ;) There's a West Central Historic Home and Garden Tour in September that includes an arts fest at some backyard garden location, with local artists and musicians. Last year for the first time I was invited to take part, and did well selling photos. I plan to do it again this year. You'll have to remind us when this gets closer. I'd like to check it out if I'm up that way!

Easy to see why someone of such great intelligence and taste would call this neighborhood home! ;) A lot of intelligent, tasteful folks make this neighborhood home. Most of them tolerate me surprisingly well. :-) The 2007 Home & Garden Tour info is here.
