Hey guys, I was asked by a couple members over at SSP to post my shots of Cleveland over here so here you go.  I can post my Cincinnati and Columbus threads on here too if you want.

BTW, Ohio is a great state and you have several fascinating cities.  Something to be proud of!  Not as cool as MO with StL & KC, but alright in my book, JK, JK, don't want to start that war  8-).

Enjoy the photos.

Downtown area, including the port, flats etc.

Not really sure what these areas are called, but some are nice inner suburban / urban neighborhoods and some are more "outer" suburban areas.  Cleveland has some nice new urbansim infill going on.

Beautiful, you have a fantastic eye!!

Holy crap that was a great post.  I think it captures some great views of DT Cleveland and how large the DT area really is.  Imagine the difference it is going to make if/when Stark fills in those few parking gaps that remain in the warehouse area!?!?  The University Circle area looked like a seperate DT all on its own....if the Cleveland Clinic would have been in there (right next to UC), it would have captured how large the Euclid corridor really is from DT.  Great post!!!

kcgridlock the airplane guy -- i almost forgot someone mentioned you were going to be coming to cleveland this summer.

well you sure did it up!

among so many pics, i was partial to the multiple bridges shots (just cause ny'ers seem to think they have a lock on that).

flight question -- there were over water northern and southern shots too, but i am curious why your downtown shots were from generally western views looking east & you did not have any shots of downtown from around the eastside looking west. were you not allowed to circle over downtown on the eastside?

not that i am looking for "total comprhensiveness" or anything, but i was just curious about the flight plan and perhaps no fly zones over the near eastside -- like for example, could he have flown n-s from lake erie across say e55th? or maybe it was it just personal choice? thx if you see this.

anyway another super job -- love your work on ssp, its always great when you "come to town."

Like I said on SSP, you are the man.  Perhaps the next time you stop by UrbanOhio you could post the "Over Cincy" thread too?  I think it would be well received here.

I noticed that too. I count 18 in this shot (used, decommissioned, etc)

I was also wondering about the direction of most of the shots. If the shots were taken from the area near CSU on a clear day, I think I would have been able to see my house.

Regardless, thanks for the incredible pics.

Awesome

The pictures of Shaker Square are awesome!   You have it listed as "Shaker Heights" but its actually Shaker Square, which is a neighborhood in Cleveland.  I love the pictures going east up Shaker Blvd.!  and Yes it is a FANTASTIC area!!!!!!

The "city of bridges" shot is just amazing!

I can post my Cincinnati and Columbus threads on here too if you want.

Please do.

Excellent shots, btw.

Excellent, excellent thread!

This span is very beautiful. It must have recently had its girders painted and the concrete covered in latex. Nice!

Dazzling!

Absolutely gorgeous

Awesome work!  I particularly liked the shots of Jacobs, CBS, and CWRU (even though they "greened" my favorite parking place between Thwing and Severance, I can understand why....).

The only think I'd have added was the view of downtown from the Lakewood shoreline, which is pretty impressive.

There is one but maybe your talking about an aerial.

spectacular!

First off, thanks everybody, I'm glad you like the photos.

The reason most of the shots are looking east is because this was a very late afternoon shoot.  If I were to shoot into the sun, I would get nothing but haze.  The shots just don't work that way.  While in town, I had to dodge thunderstorms so I was running out of time fast.  Plus, the helicopter I used was the channel five press chopper and we spent a couple hours down covering that pregnant girl that was killed and they were looking for her in that field near Akron airport (that's how I got the Akron photos).  It was interesting being down there with three other press choppers during the evening news, but it screwed up my times as well.

Wow!  That was an awesome photo thread!  Are you a professional city photographer, or do you have connections with pilots?

Excellent photos!!!!!  I can't wait until Pesht takes off.  Those shots show how big downtown really is, and how much development potential are on those parking lots.  The photos of University Circle are great... there seems to be more buildings in those photos than in the photos of Downtown Akron.  It will be interesting to see how University Circle looks in five years, with all the new jobs and housing that will be built in the area.  Great photos of Shaker Square... we know how to do TODs in Cleveland, and our past shows it in these photos.  Great job!!

Speechless!

(Well not totally speechless: I couldn't load the whole string of pictures at work, and even here at home I had trouble loading them all. And I have a T1 line at work and a cable modem at home. You might consider breaking the pictures into two separate threads so everyone can view them -- including those with dial-up).

Definitely amazing stuff. I'm going to be in Cleveland in August for a few days, and I would love to add to these. Won't be from an eagle-eye perspective, though. :( I can't wait until The Flats get built up .. I think there's so much potential for a terrific riverfront neighborhood, if it's done right. As beautiful as those pictures are, it also unfortunately highlights some of the untapped possibilities of Cleveland's riverfront. Hope that changes for the better soon!

Fantazmo!  I have yet to be disappointed in one of your photo threads.

Thank you KC for FINALLY coming to Cleveland, you made her look absolutely stunning.  I love looking at your threads on SSP.  Great work!

  • 2 months later...

cleveland has everything i lok for in a metropolitan city...these pics are by far breathtaking.

  • 3 years later...

Sorry for keep bringing old picture threads back but there are some excellent shots in this one.

I love pictures like this which show the density of downtown. Cleveland looks better in an aerial then in a skyline shot in my opinion. I think it looks good in both though.  :-D

...and my neighborhood looks so beautiful.

...and my neighborhood looks so beautiful.

it really does

the sun was perfect during those pictures

I can't believe I did not see these pics originally.  They are incredible (the great day certainly helped).  I would like to see an update (on a similar beautiful day) of the University Circle pics.

I think I missed this thread the first time around. Awesome pics! Nice transit shots, too!

^Of course you saw it the first time around, cause you commented on it! :-D  At least you saw some of the pics.  You said you couldn't see them all.

Ah yes, that's one of the joys of getting older and decaying memory. You get to experience many firsts at least once!

Great to browse these again !
