Eaton is nice enough, but there really isn't much that stands out, positive or negative. They have a famous Pork Festival every year. I have eaton there once.

The Preble County Courthouse, built in 1918, is typical of the design of county courthouses at the time; Mercer, Clinton, Hardin, Scioto, Ashland, and Hocking contain similar examples.

I went through Eaton once on the way to Miami U.  I remember thinking that it was very well kept... your photos confirm that my memory hasn't failed me!

That's what I was thinking. It seems like the place is fairly well-cared for and even most store fronts were full.

Eaton.  Eh.

I lived in Eaton when I was in first and second grade.  I won first place in one of the Pig festival drawing contests.  Still the highlight of my life.  You had to drive over the border to Richmond, Indiana to do any major shopping or go see a movie.  I remember it was cool as a kid cause once you crossed the line you gained an hour.

that poor steeple-less church

Nice-looking little town. I don't know if I could stand the excitement of living there, though!

Centerburg!  Another installment of the "Homer Price's Ohio" tour

Serioulsy, nice treatment there, Ink.

I recall when first moving to this area there was a very high power FM station based in Eaton, that had their callsign or slogan:  "Eaton, Dayton, Springfield, Alive!"

Bad pun, yes I know.

Hamilton is Centerburg. Let there be no confusion.  :-)

Looks like a pleasant community, and as noted, in good shape too.  Now that "I have eaton there once." reference, yikes.

Memories of driving to Miami from Cleveland.  As such have easily been in Eaton (or at least driven through...sometimes we would stop to get something to eat but that was usually done at the Springfield McDonald's off of 70 where you would usually  find half of Greater Cleveland on their way to Oxford) 50-60 times.  Always thought it was well kept.

Nice little town.  It gets a little flat in that part of Ohio so I haven't made it there yet.  Seems like we always drive north or east on our Sunday drives, rarely do we drive west or south.  I still need to visit Oxford.

My mother is from Eaton.  My parents still attend church there and bank at the Eaton Bank... I remember the town well from my childhood as we lived a few miles away in Camden.  Oh, Eaton is very exciting (not) what with its Pork Festival (which is kinda tasty!).  Though, one of the world's foremost authorites and collector on/of Hummel figurines lives there and owns the local IGA.

nice job. certainly much less "eh" than the eaton i know of in lorain county, which is only a bump in the road.

Here is the church, where is the steeple?

You have to admit they did a bang-up job on that roof, though.  The transition is almost seamless.

^i've really missed grassy's witicisms. I'm glad to have old sarcastic grassy back and not the newspaper posting fool.
