May 2, 20196 yr ^ Overall this plan looks great. Did you notice that one of the last images has a massing for the UC3 redevelopment? It looks quite tall in the image. Looks about twice the height of Judson Manor. I also noticed that these images did NOT show the reconfigured Chester / MLK / Stokes interchange I’m hoping we get. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?
May 3, 20196 yr Article yesterday. Article today. Planning on another one tomorrow! FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2019 University Circle's trio of 11-story developments Three developments featuring 11-story residential buildings are planned to rise in the coming months in Cleveland's University Circle. Two are slated to be on Euclid Avenue but won't be next to each other. In fact, they'll be on opposite ends of the city's fast-growing cultural, educational and medical district. The third will be less than two blocks north of the westernmost tower. The Finch Group is proposing to build a mixed-use project called Infinium on the soon-to-be-vacated site of the Cleveland-East facility for the Centers for Dialysis Care (CDC), 11717 Euclid Ave., according to two sources. May 3, 20196 yr This is great to hear. This site has been dominated by an ugly building and a huge parking lot for so long. I really like that they are adding townhouses to hide the parking on 117th and 118th. The design is bad in many ways.
May 3, 20196 yr Ken...thanks for all your informative and optimistic articles. Love the inside and early days information you dig up. I hate to be that person (but of course I will be) but not crazy about certain aspects of the dialysis center conceptual. I think the eleven story building should be closer to Euclid. It may very well overwhelm one of the neat traditional looking CWRU dorms to the west in its current configuration. Also not sure about the plaza. I am getting a 1970's mid-size Midwest college town vibe from it (think Ann Arbor). Edited May 3, 20196 yr by Htsguy
May 3, 20196 yr I said it before and I’ll say it again. I can’t keep up with all the development going on in Cleveland. Ten years ago on this site we were hungry for any announcement of a potential development. Unlike ten years ago a lot of these developments are not just some pipe dream they are actually coming to fruition. Thank you for keeping us informed KJP!

I'm literally having this conversation with my friend from college, a Boston transplant. He says Cleveland is still missing that WOW factor, something you only can find in Cleveland. I told him that Cleveland is playing catch up and went decades without true development and that I prefer a well rounded city that offers a variety of amenities and not just one big one. May 4, 20196 yr Early Plan For Library Lofts By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio – Initial plans for an apartment building to be built atop a future library along Euclid Avenue in University Circle quickly won approval Thursday from the city’s Euclid Corridor Design Review Committee. The apartment project, called Library Lofts, takes its inspiration – naturally enough – from bookshelves.
June 5, 20196 yr The Marriott Residence Inn, which is part of the Innova complex and across from the Cle Clinic opened today. It is nice to see more lights and activity in that area. Also just down the street at 69th the Tru should be open in about a month. That's about 300 new rooms which in my opinion are much needed to continue to compete. It is my hope with these type of new hotels places like University Hotel and Suites/36th&Euclid which Trip Advisor describes as "disgusting" will be put out of business and replaced.

Can't say I like how the UC3 massing overwhelms the the profile of the iconic United Methodist Church. Its perhaps the most signature building of University Circle. I think its important to preserve the park-like atmosphere of the neighborhood with its sunny lush greenery as opposed to the dark shadows of downtown with its tall buildings. The two should maintain their separate identities.
June 6, 20196 yr I probably shouldn't look at massings like this too closely, or attempt to draw conclusions from them, but those are some pretty big buildings over in the CWRU South Residential Village, near the RTA UC-Cedar station. June 6, 20196 yr I would particularly like these in-town hotels to get the business rather than the farther out ones - like in the distance suburbs; and that includes whenever some entity wants to build a hotel or motel far out they consider these closer-in ones and perhaps decide it might drop their plans.
June 7, 20196 yr It seems like these hotels and the suburban ones don't compete all that directly. The suburban ones tend to cater more to business travelers who need to visit businesses out that way (like the companies along the 271 corridor for instance). The city ones seem to be either for leisure travelers, convention business or people visiting businesses downtown or in UC.

Due to the lack of large convention sized properties downtown, the Suburban hotels, cater to both business and leisure travelers. The midtown property is a break from that and hopefully more properties will open in Midtown, UC, Ohio City, Tremont and Detroit-Shoreway. Having a hotel further demonstrates your a well rounded area/neighborhood.

June 9, 20196 yr ^Understood, thanks. I was indeed referring to the new Residence Inn by the Clinic. 175 is not too bad. The Courtyard by UH has about 150 rooms. The industrial parade of the long cargo container ships meandering along the bends of the Cuyahoga river is the city's most unique feature. To have a meal there along its banks where you can almost reach out and touch the ships is quite a treat! No other city has that to my knowledge. Geography plays a big role in shaping and defining a city, everything else is more of less just a commodity that you can find in most other cities. Obviously things like the Westside Market and the Arcade are man-made assets that would be difficult to reproduce elswhere, but those are few and far between.
