Jebus Cripes: No parking except for that big parking garage across the street.

I don't remember: is there any parking around there?

Not nearly enough. I usually end up parking at the Art Museum.

Don't worry. Those car potatoes will likely die off many years before you do from diabetes, being overweight, heart problems, etc.

I had to google 1269 East 99th Street....check it out:

I get off the bus right in front of the house.  My cousin was interested and IIRC, there is something wrong with the foundation and the two additions on the back that damaged the support as it's not insulated properly.

I think it's too much of an investment to rehab. and I'm a rehab addict.

^It's not a house and never was, I believe.  There are separate unit built within.  I wish that the landmark designation somehow required the addition to be removed.

It has to be house.  It looks like a mansion to me.

Correction.  From the link MH posted, it appears that it might have been built as a house but has since been sectioned off into separate units

There is an addition, you can see it from the street as you're passing Legion Garden.  I walk north on 99th street to my relatives homes.

Breathing new life into the Cleveland Museum of Natural History: editorial

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History's newly announced transformation plans promise to renew its status as one of the region's premier cultural attractions and to further enhance University Circle's growing national reputation as a beehive of education, research and creative employment.

Museum officials announced last week that they have begun raising money for what they anticipate will be a bold $125 million renovation and expansion on Wade Oval. Spearheaded by Evalyn Gates, the particle physicist who came from Chicago to take the museum's helm in 2010, the new design will better show off both the museum's collections of dinosaur skeletons and other treasures and its staff of scientists who continue to do breakthrough research in paleontology, botany and other disciplines. On that front, just this fall, Michael Ryan, the museum's curator of vertebrate paleontology, was the lead author of a study that identified a new species of horned dinosaur from fossils initially collected in 1958.

very handsome!  Is this a permanent installation?

Awesome!! will make a nice addition!

I'm not quite sure what I think of all the additions, but I'm definitely in favor of more lighting.  UC is going to frikin glow at night!

^I am actually glad to hear this because currently I find the re-developed Euclid from the Circle to Mayfield sorta dark at night (especially given all the buildings) and especially around the "circle" (not a real circle any more of course) area.  Think it has to do with the new street lights which are probably more energy efficient and have a more direct beam.

While i was riding the rapid I realize know they were building more Coltman 27 town homes already...exciting

^ I saw that driving by the other day, and totally forgot to post about it. Thanks for pulling thru when i couldnt!

More residents for our city on their way!

Where are they building more 27 Coltman??? I didn't think there was any more land for them. Is it Circle 118 you're thinking of on Euclid? They are adding a few more town homes in the back of the lot.

No it's on the east end of the rest of the buildings you can see it when you look to your right when your facing the town homes. I saw it while on the rapid past East 120 street so I couldn't snap a pic

Do you mean the West end?  i.e. into the parking lot going towards Mayfield?

I know that Circle 118 is building more units immediately to the east of the existing units.  I am trying to imagine where Coltmant 27 would expand to the east/Euclid..... maybe on the other side of Coltman?

Sheesh, no pictures? Now I'm going to have to walk over there at lunch in the snow and try to see what you guys are talking about.

It may have been the west end I said east because I was riding eastward towards Windermere and they were on the farthest end of the direction I was headed.

As far as I could tell through the snow on a quick walk over there, no visible construction at 27 Coltman, but maybe I missed it. I was in a hurry to get back before my feet froze or my boss noticed I was taking an extra couple minutes at lunch. Try to get us a picture so we know what you're talking about.

There is definitely some construction but I'll try to get a pic on my way back home

While riding on the Red Line, was the new construction on your left or right?

  • 3 weeks later...

There are notes and a teddy bear wrapped to a pole on MLK Boulevard presumably where a car crashed unfortunately resulting in a death of one or more of the passengers. This has been up for a very long time now and I was hoping it would have been taken down when they were redoing the street but it is still up. I was wondering if there is anyway we could get this taken down. It is getting to the point where it has been too long. It has been up for at least 6 months if I remember correctly, and probably way longer than that even.

I drive down MLK every day, I'm pretty sure it has been up in some for for at least two years.

You could try contacting the city councilman for the ward, or just taking it down yourself.

I was thinking at least a year but didn't want to overshoot it!

I wouldn't recommend taking it down yourself.  You don't know who it belongs to.  Call the councilperson.

I've seen makeshift memorials last years on other roads - isn't there still one on I-71 for Trooper Gross?

Can't get this link to work...but it promises to be an interesting story!

Was listed as a headline on Cleveland.com earlier today but now is gone...found it again when I searched the site for 'Litt' in the past 24 hrs.  Can't get it to work though.

Polls are city property.  You have as much right to take something down as the other people had to put it up.  I'm sure they didn't request a permit for it.

Before acting I would put yourself into the shoes of the person(s) who put up the roadside memorial. How would you feel if someone took it down?

BTW, this isn't a "development". It's probably something that belongs in a more generic UC-related discussion thread. Thanks.

Weird, I wonder if the article was pulled back for some reason.  Obviously a huge deal.  I hope it gets bought by a developer, and not by Case, but I have no idea who else would be willing to fork out that kind of money.

I think it said the Cleveland Museum of Art and of course, a certain clinic that is located in Cleveland.  :-)

I played with the search terms to see what else would come up. Here's what I found:

Very interesting. It's better than having one outbid the other and therefore potentially ending up with something that is detrimental to the losing institution.

Thanks for clarifying.  I guess it wasn't the Clinic...I do remember the CMA part of it, though.

Wow, interesting.  Sounds vaguely familiar now that I think of it, but not sure if from earlier reporting or just word on the street.  Well, I still hope it gets developed as something other than straight up institutional.  A tasteful mixed use project could add even more vitality to the heart of UC.  Though parking will forever be an issue.

From CWRU

http://cwru-daily.com/news/university-circle-institutions-unite-to-advance-areas-cultural-academic-character/

Three University Circle institutions have come together in a transaction that enables one to advance its existing aspirations and the others to preserve future opportunities.

In a joint announcement, the leaders of the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art announced the sale of the college’s property on East Boulevard to the university and museum. The sale will allow the college to fulfill its goal of unifying its campus on Euclid Avenue through construction of a new building adjoining the Joseph McCullough Center for the Arts.

“This transaction is a marvelous manifestation of the increasing collaboration we are experiencing with our University Circle partners and represents an important milestone in unifying our campus,” said Grafton J. Nunes, CIA’s president and

The 4.13-acre parcel sits at the corner of East Boulevard and Bellflower Road and faces the museum immediately to the west and the university to the south. CIA plans to vacate the structure on the site, the George Gund building, once it completes a new structure adjoined to the McCullough space. Construction is expected to begin by the middle of this year, and Nunes expects that process to take about 18 months. The leaders of the museum and university have not yet developed specific plans for the acquisition.

And here it is now on Cleveland.com: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2013/01/the_cleveland_institute_of_art_1.html

There's actually mot much info about the Gund Hall property (sounds like CMA/Case have no firm plans, and in any case have to wait till CIA moves out in a couple years), but some good updates on the CIA expansion. Bigger than it used to be, but no more roof terrace or vinyl banners (which I think we already knew).
