Posted July 15, 200717 yr I know I've posted a few of threads on the Front Street studios here in Dayton and the impromtu gallery events that happen there. One of those was a benefit for the familiy of a deceased artist, which included a silent auction. I bid on, and won, a gift basket from Boston Stoker, a local coffee roaster. One of the organizers contacted me a month or so ago to arrange to pick up the basket, which I did. We met at a coffeeshop near UD, where he has a live/work studio. We got to talking and it turns out he either helps organize or participates in a sort of underground art project, operating independantly of the local gallery scene. What they do is put on art shows late at night in empty parking garages, and also do a sort of street art thing at the Oregon District. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, but this weekend I walked 5th Street looking for signs of art. I think these pix are of things that might be coming from this underground art group (or at least some of them might be). It would be kind of interesting to find out about those garage events, which is kind of a neat concept ...take over the upper floors of a garage for an impromptu art show.
