March 30, 200817 yr I guess when your team sucks, all you can do is be disorderly. Ask Browns fans prior to last year, lol.
March 30, 200817 yr Would knew Canadians could be so rude? There goes the popular stereotype of all Canadians being polite.
March 31, 200817 yr Toronto FC fans are positively rabid. This is the club's second season. They played poorly last year, but sold out every single game. The Crew has been around for 12 years, and if they've had 12 sellouts, it'd be a miracle.

April 27, 200817 yr Okay. Here's coverage from the Dispatch. Wait. This isn't about how great the Crew is playing this season... Attendance a downer for Crew Weather, schedule are factors in low numbers By Shawn Mitchell THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The last game the Crew played in Columbus Crew Stadium was a wildly entertaining 4-3 victory over Chivas USA on April 12. It was a buzz-building sort of game, a seesaw, action-packed affair that should have helped spread the word that the Crew, now 3-1, is off to its best start in years. April 27, 200817 yr They really should try to do more advertising in the SW Ohio markets. They need to sell themselves as Ohio's team. I can see a great ad of Browns versus Bengals, Reds vs. Indians and then at the end support great soccer that brings the state together, the Crew.
April 27, 200817 yr Don't get me started on their advertising and promotions. Though, I can imagine a scenario where the Crew blows the doors off its ad budget and octuples the media buy and still only drags in another couple thousand. The biggest enemy of attendance is (native born) Americans' general apathy toward the sport. You'd think the overwhelming popularity of organized youth soccer would translate into big interest for MLS, but it hasn't seemed to make a dent. I've heard criticisms of the US youth soccer method that, by being so intensely organized and competitive, it essentially drums all the fun out of the sport. I heartily agree. The only place I've ever seen a pick up soccer game in the park was back in Hamtramck and it was the Bosnian kids vs. the Polish kids.
May 4, 200817 yr Crew 2, Wizards 1 Columbus marks fifth win of young season Saturday, May 3, 2008 - 10:10 PM By SHAWN MITCHELL, THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH After gutting out three points in four of its first five games, the Crew cruised to its fifth victory last night. May 19, 200817 yr Crew 0 - Toronto FC 0 Toronto coach rips into Schelotto Crew midfielder's act wears thin on Carver in tie Sunday, May 18, 2008 - 3:39 AM TORONTO -- The Crew and Toronto FC played to a scoreless tie yesterday. It was the Crew's grittiest effort of the season and a point earned in Major League Soccer's least hospitable stadium for visitors. May 26, 200817 yr THE GOOD NEWS: The Columbus Crew attendance is up. THE BAD NEWS: The Kingfish's friends are too rowdy! Michael Arace commentary: Crew rowdies create great atmosphere, but let's not go too far Monday, May 26, 2008 - 3:07 AM By Michael Arace, The Columbus Dispatch Prior to this season, Crew Stadium morphed from a soccer-specific stadium to a soccer-concert hybrid. A huge stage sprouted, and it now looms like a spaceship behind the north goal, where the most ardent supporters used to sit. These supporters, these gloriously loud and sudsy fans, had to move over to make room for Kid Rock and Dave Matthews, and they did not like it. May 27, 200817 yr I for one am not a fan of the streamers being thrown onto the field, but i guess its something im going to have to get used to. But at the same time i hate this crap about making football stadiums "family friendly" places. Football supporters are a passionate fan base whod give the world for their club, and it shows in their support during the match. If you want a family friend setting take the kids to a baseball or basketball game where people all around wont even be in the game half the time. There is going to be swearing at these games, there is all over the world. That is whats wrong with the marketing and PR departments in MLS, they are trying to bring in the soccer moms and kids instead of going after the adult fan. Look at Toronto, DC, and Houston for prime examples of this. Those stadiums are electric and loud.....I do like what Columbus supporters groups are doing and i really hope to see it grow, from the games and videos ive seen so far this season that corner of the stadium looks awesome, hopefully you can get it to carry over into the surrouding sectios. Im currently trying to plan a trip from cleveland to come down and take in a game from the supporters section sometime soon, but working saturday nights its pretty hard to do.
May 27, 200817 yr ^I love the fan section and the streamer hijinx, and as a parent, I find nothing terribly objectionable about the occasional chorus of "BULLSH!T." The marketing for the Crew this year has shifted away from the family-focus and is more about the players and the theme nights. Considering Crew Stadium's proximity to campus, you'd think you'd have no problem getting a big college turn-out in the early and late season--especially in the spring. They're practically giving the tickets away at the student union. But I guess nothing's better than Buckeyes...
May 27, 200817 yr Looks like a fun time at Crew Stadium! Although I don't "get" the streamer throwing either. Must be soccer/futbol specific thing. Here's the photo the Dispatch published with the Michael Arace commentary. Can we see the Kingfish in this photo? :-D
May 27, 200817 yr We steer wide and clear of the supporter section, thank you. The best streamer action we saw was early on in the season when supporters threw what looked like wads of paper onto the field. Security totally took the bait and thew the objects back into the stands causing each and every one to unfurl, catching the updraft, sending streamers all the way up the stands. Brilliant!
May 28, 200817 yr Crew investigating fan's racial remark ... And here's the video of the incident if anyone is interested. It's making its way around most of the national media. And you might wanna turn down the volume if at work or near kids, it's kinda graphic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weUIq7hzIDg&eurl=http://www.soccerbyives.net/#
May 28, 200817 yr I saw this video last night and was completely disgusted by it. I seriously hope MLS and Columbus Crew are able to find the fan attacking Kheli Dube and ban him from Crew Stadium and all other MLS stadiums in North America.
June 10, 200817 yr Earthquakes 2, Crew 0 Crew gets its chances, but winless streak hits 4 Sunday, June 8, 2008 By Shawn Mitchell, The Columbus Dispatch The Crew, without a goal in its past three Major League Soccer games, had no reason to take a tentative stance against the league's least successful team last night in Crew Stadium.
