December 18, 2024Dec 18 Hearing that you aren't actually allowed to sell your ticket to this game on second hand exchanges. If true, that's diabolically evil.

NYCFC's field at Yankee Stadium has been much derided for being too narrow, and the field at Ohio Stadium would be even more narrow. Messi is far and away the main attraction here and he almost never plays on turf.

January 31Jan 31 Anyone see the Crew were just valued at like a bazillion dollars!!!??? I was real happy for a second until I remembered who owns the team haha. GO CREW
February 18Feb 18 These stories are two weeks old now, surprised that no one has posted them here yet: Crew’s Cucho Hernandez to sign with Real Betis in Spain’s La Liga https://www.nbc4i.com/sports/mls/columbus-crew/crews-cucho-hernandez-to-sign-with-real-betis-in-spains-la-liga-per-source/ And right on the heels of that: Columbus Crew trade Christian Ramirez to LA Galaxy https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/mls/columbus-crew/2025/02/05/christian-ramirez-columbus-crew-la-galaxy-mls-trades/78248238007/ To put it mildly, my interest in paying the current asking prices for tickets to see the Columbus-Miami game up here in Cleveland on April 19 has waned even more, even though my soccer-fanatic son is begging me to splurge for them. (On the other hand, it's also made me more comfortable waiting, because the odds of me waiting until mid-April and then finding the game is 100% sold out I think are even lower now than they were two months or so ago when the game was announced to the public.) EDIT: Just checked SeatGeek and there are definitely decent seats available for less than 4-5 weeks ago when this got onto my radar. On the Cucho trade itself: One of my soccer-fan buddies who follows Champions League play suggested that what's really behind this is that someone in Cucho's inner circle said that if he wanted to make the Colombian national team for the 2026 World Cup, he needed to get back to playing in Europe. No clue whether or not there's truth to that but it sounded at least somewhat plausible, much as I hate to say that given how soccer has grown in the US and in Columbus in particular.

I always discuss Crew stuff on soccer-specific message boards (reddit and BigSoccer), and never think to post anything here. To your point about Cucho moving to a better league to increase his chances of making Colombia's World Cup squad, that's 100% the case. The Colombian national team coach told him he needs to be playing in a top European league if he wants a shot at making the World Cup squad. Given his age and how good he is, it was always going to be difficult to keep him here. He likely even took a bit of a pay cut to go play at Real Betis.
