No comments, because I don't know anything about it. Just photos. Anybody who knows any background info is welcome to fill it in.

Looks lovely on the outside, but it's a mostly-gutted shell with a huge round hole in the roof.

Webster Station eh?

Certainly some interesting stuff there.

Possible steam plant for the city? I know there was such a plant that was demolished or partially demolished not long ago -- looked like a castle of sorts.

Trying to gloss up this abandonment? What the hell?

I would ask a friend who lives in Dayton what the abandonments are, but hes in London right now.

Sad...just sad

That was on the opposite of downtown, southwest of Courthouse Square.  I'm not really into the whole "factory, industrial grit" stuff but that structure was beautiful and was demolished for my high school alma mater's "master plan."

And they wonder why I don't donate a dime to that school.

Nicely done, Rob.  Hopefully the developers can get something going with the Merc.  Also, with the development of Tech Town getting started nearby (and possibly Ballpark Village), hopefully that means even better things are in the future for Webster Station.  I love having the baseball stadium downtown, but that gives the owners of the surface lots in Webster Station even less incentive to do something productive with their land.

While I agree that that steam plant was a beautiful building and hated to see it torn down, do you think there was really a viable reuse for it?

^public art?

Another reason to use Rob's suggestion to convert the Mendelsons building into a parking garage. Dayton could even connect it with 5/3 via a skywalk. ;)

Moreso than a useless parking lot for Chaminade.  If anything, it could've been used for awesome, creative loft spaces.

*sigh*

Yeah, I'm thinking Westbeth.  Actually I am going to be looking into this to throw out as a possibility for a part of the Arcade.

Yeah, Rob..this was a district steam plant for the industrial areas east of downtown (might have had some of downtown connected, too).  The plan was to convert it into lofts and apartments and offices.  I recall Dffly mentioning that he heard from a city commissioner the developer couldnt get finacing to finish the project.

Ive heard that its going to be the site of a charity ball this fall.

I read that CityWide will be working with the developer of the Merc this year. They're going to help with the financing in some way.

what a great parking spot
