Posted July 23, 200717 yr Ingenuity and Taste of Tremont festivals, that is! I headed over to the Ingenuity Festival (http://www.ingenuitycleveland.com) on Friday, here's what I saw: I only had a few minutes to swing by during lunch but there was a nice crowd. Unfortunately I had to head out but I'd be back later in the afternoon. On the way back, I got a nice shot of Short Vincent - formerly one of Cleveland's more infamous streets (back in the burlesque days), now a glorfied loading dock: I'd never say that the Breuer Tower is "pretty", but this made me reconsider that: The facade of the Cleveland Athletic Club: I made it back to Ingenuity around 3pm, and the gallery for the Breuer Tower proposals was open. I can't remember all the details on these but some were really cool - others were just bizarre: Closing off Euclid Avenue with a Hulett ore unloader? :wtf: This submission had some snarky commentary about "Cleveland's infatuation with neoclassical buildings" or something like that:  The crowds were a little thinner but I guess technically the big events weren't starting until 5pm: I decided to head over to the War Memorial Plaza: And lo and behold, a bridal party. You're welcome guys - don't say I never did anything for ya! ;-) That's all for Friday! Sunday was the Taste of Tremont festival - always a good time! En route - too bad we can't get a "Cap" like Columbus has over 670! Church? Check. Worker-cottage homes? Check. Alterna-punk people with tattoos? Check. Quirky dog breeds? Check. Yep, we're in Tremont alright! And with temps in the mid-70s, the crowds were out: St. John Cantius (Polish Catholic) was open but we didn't have time to stop in (check the main page's Cleveland/Tremont section for interior shots): Yep, the "A Christmas Story" House people had their booth, just in case you needed to pick up a "major award!" Yes, it IS a lovely day for a Guiness! PUG!!! The band was on their break, so I can't tell you if they were any good: Good times in the beer garden: At this point, we ran into some friends who invited us to check out a studio of a friend - sure, why not? The view from the studio of the beer garden - still well populated: If ever there was an argument for burying power lines  I *think* this is an Austin-Healey - they're asking $12,500: A pretty typical Tremont street: An old-school Tremont spot, the Literary Cafe: Okay, they can yell at Mittal Steel to clean up, but as I've witnessed, they can't clean up after their dog... even with the city-provided bags. Typical. Russian Orthodox, Korean Catholic, United Church of Christ (2 of them), Iglesias Latinas (3 or 4 of them), Syrian Orthodox, and that's just for starters. Here's St. George's - one of Tremont's many churches: Hope you got out and enjoyed the weekend! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

July 23, 200717 yr Mayday, I saw you and the SO walking through Lincoln Park on Sunday afternoon. I was weighed down by my son or else I would have said hello.
July 23, 200717 yr hahah - the photo's of the bridal party has my sister in it...kind of creepy when you know the people in it

July 24, 200717 yr I don't know where my brain is. I totally forgot about Ingenuity AND didn't know about the Taste of Tremont (or if I had, I forgot that, too). Sadly, I was in Strongsville on Saturday, and saw they had their big community festival at Routes 82 and 42. And I remembered that the Irish Fest was at the fairgrounds in Berea, and that Fairview Park was having its Summerfest at Bohlken Park. But Tremont and Ingenuity? Zip. And if it wasn't for the rebroadcast of the Dew Fest on national TV, I would've forgotten about that, too. July 24, 200717 yr Great pics Mayday. I was in Tremont on Sunday and it was great. The weather was perfect and the street was filled. It seems to get bigger (more vendors and people) every year. Definitely one of my favorite Cleveland events of the year.
July 24, 200717 yr Great to see these pics MayDay! I also read that the Dew Tour drew around 50,000 people over the weekend. EDIT: Actually here's the link: http://www.cleveland.com/dewtour/wide/index.ssf?dewtour0723.html
July 24, 200717 yr Golly Darn! Cleveland is just too festive for a fella' my age! Great pics; the Tremont event looks like lots of hometown fun. Some of those Breuer Tower concepts make me think Adobe should revoke some folks' Photoshop licenses. On the other hand, maybe they could incorporate the salvaged Hulett into a parking garage. Instead of ramps, they could use it to transfer cars between the street and various levels of the garage. Great space efficiency, unique attraction, historic preservation. :weird:
July 25, 200717 yr Beautiful... I can't wait to explore Cleveland. I understand it isn't as liberal and hip as Toledo but I am still looking forward too it.
July 25, 200717 yr I've always thought West Chester was pretty liberal and hip, too! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 26, 200717 yr Some of those Breuer Tower concepts make me think Adobe should revoke some folks' Photoshop licenses. I couldn't have put it better myself. Tremont looks fantastic...one of these days I'll get up to Cleveland and give it the attention it deserves. Hopefully I'll have one of you fine folks show me around.
