Does Mitch McConnell wear dentures? It sounds like they're missing whenever he talks. It drives me nuts listening to him talk. He sounds like the "Clear Eyes" guy. His closing statement at the trial today was putting me to sleep. It's like he's only capable of saying 2 vowel sounds. I can't understand a damn thing he says!

It's the weight of his second and third chins.   They pull down on his jaw and distort his KEN-TUCK-AH accent.

LOL. That's funny.

They keep voting for leaders/speakers who are the least capable of actually speaking. Pelosi is pretty bad as well.

What's up with Ohio's funky winery-shipping-to Ohio laws?

"Ohio Limited winery direct shipping. Ohio residents may have up to 24 cases of wine per year shipped to their home from small wineries making 250,000 gallons of wine or less per year. Retailer shipping prohibited."

Look at Ohio on this map compared to the rest of the US:

I don't think Portman is worried about a legacy.  He is 65, "retiring" a millionaire and will still have plenty of passive income via K street.

Or worse.  I could see Ohio elevating a super Trumpy Senator ala Hawley

People call me and text me through Facebook because they don't have my new phone number, so I can't imagine deactivating it. Unfortunately, changing my phone number was a horrible idea. People call non-stop for "Pamela," especially during booty call hours for some reason. I hardly get any sleep from my phone blowing up at 1am.  It's really obnoxious. Pamela also apparently signed up for absolutely everything online, judging from the amount of junk text messages I get and Indian guys concerned about my car's extended warranty. I'm going to have to change it again...ugh.

Edited by David

Everybody gets the extended warranty calls. Then there's the "sell us your home" calls since there's no supply.

I meant to post that in the Facebook thread that I was just reading. I don't know why my posts keep ending up in the wrong threads, wtf.

When they try to sell me an extended warranty, I tell them that's awesome; sign my '97 Accord right up.

I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in years. The only political pundits or media personalities I listen to are podcasters because they don't have producers or bosses and they have sponsors that don't generally care what their content is or where they are on the political compass, they just care about numbers. The content is much more real.

I think the main reason I cant get into podcasts is that they're not in the moment. The one reason I still listen to radio is the connection. That what you're hearing is current. I listen to NPR, sports talk and the radio stations coming out of Mexico...they still play some pretty good stuff down there.

@surfohio

A lot of podcasts are live but you have to know when they're doing them.

I think a big part of the future of podcasts are apps like Clubhouse and Stereo. I had a blast last night on Stereo. There's a bunch of different rooms you can join and there's a couple hosts in each room, talking about a particular subject, the pandemic for example. One called "BLM is trash" with these guys going at it, debating lol. You have to sift through the rooms. You can chime in when you want with your two cents so its very interactive. I was in a room with this guy telling hilarious stories about how horrible it was when he was trying to do a documentary on Alex Jones after the Sandy Hook fiasco. Through one of his friends he got to meet him and said when he got to his studio, the building was totally disguised with signs of fake business names on the facade so no one knows where their headquarters is. He went out to dinner at a fancy steak house with him to interview him but Alex wouldn't stop making out with his girlfriend the entire time, who was 25 years younger than him when he wasn't constantly knocking back shots of Vodka. He was completely trashing him even though he signed an NDA lol. You come across a lot of celebrities and prominent people. I was in a room with Jeff Ross and you can imagine the amount of trolls. They really need to get rid of those people and find a way to ensure that people on there are 18 and over. You can report them but I'm not sure how effective that is. Clubhouse is an invite-only app so they're in the golden age with exclusivity right now (like when you had to have a college e-mail address to sign up for Facebook and you didn't have your crazy aunt's political rants clogging up your news feed) so it isn't as bad but they still have issues with moderating rooms.

I think it would be fun to have a podcast room for UrbanOhio. There's a lot of people on here that would make great hosts.

@GCrites80s I love your avatar! It made me laugh hard when I saw that. I remember AmeriFlora '92, growing up in Columbus. There was so much hype it was ridiculous. It was like The Olympics were coming to town.

95% of podcasts are inane and boring beyond belief - I'd rather read an article or book and save myself some time.  I often try to find ones I can follow, but they tend to all have some combination of common low quality aspects like a bad radio voice (most common), lack of editing, too opinionated, blatantly wrong statements, too much laughing, too many people at once, they don't stay on topic, etc.

The same goes for some talk radio, but for the most part the popular shows are hosted by experts of the trade, not random people in their basement. They have tried and true methods and practices that make them bearable and even enjoyable at times.

And say what you want about his politics, but Rush Limbaugh was a god among men in terms of radio broadcasting and carrying a talk show. The few folks I listen to on occasion (Bill Cunningham and Mike McConnell in Cincinnati) are also very skilled orators with decades of experience, which gives them a leg up on pretty much any podcaster.

@Ram23
You're just not very familiar with the podcast world and don't know where to look. For sure the biggest issue with podcasting is that anyone can do it and that is becoming a problem. 100%. Still, you increasingly see veterans of Terrestrial Radio joining podcast networks or even starting their own platform, for good reason. I guess a good conservative example would be Adam Corolla. Although 'Big Tech' is becoming far worse than the FCC when those platforms are the likes of Youtube and Spotify.

Also, Terrestrial Radio is just outdated technology. The fidelity of AM is absolute trash - you might as well be listening through a CB radio and FM has a short range. You can listen to podcasts anywhere...and even watch them.

I couldn't listen to someone like Bill Cunningham for that long, whether I was conservative or liberal. I can't listen to most people's political rants longer than however many minutes so I enjoy podcasters changing topics as long as they're interesting topics.

What's the deal with doctors' office waiting rooms and HGTV? I feel like we've talked about that before on here.

I just don't think women nerd-out as much on the contents of this here forum as much as men.   They are interested, but not to the degree we are.   Maybe UO needs to buy some female-targeted advertising?

I noticed that. And some allow you to select denominations.

I used an ATM at the University of Toledo once that would dole out $1s if your amount requested ended in something other than a 0 or 5.

Not necessarily true, most forums are mostly one gender or the other. All other forums I go to are male-dominated. The only ones I've ever used that weren't were CU and the now-defunct Kunstler forum (this was before he jumped the shark).

All PNC ATMs (like, actual PNC ATMs, not ones found in UDF or something) dole out $1 and above.

The kind where all the girls wear nothing but fancy platform shoes and are named after German automobiles.... 😜

People are trading digital real estate like non fungible tokens of Mark Cuban Gifs of him dancing... Elon Musk is selling NFTs on Mars but people in 2021 are still amazed when they come across ATM machines that are able to dispense something other than 20s.

I finally realized why people buy cars with leather interior. I never was a fan; my last car was a Jeep and had leather and I didn't like it because it starts to look like dog sh*t as the years go by. You have to take care of it and I just didn't see the point. I just bought a used Ford Escape with cloth but literally every time I get out of the car and close the door, I get shocked when I close the door from the static generated between my clothes and the seats. I wonder if they make steering wheels for ESD. I have ESD shoes but I don't want to wear them just because I'm driving.

I think most of the "leather" interiors these days are synthetic "leatherette." We were looking at Audi vs Lexus last year - the former had real leather and the latter had synthetic. I actually liked the synthetic better. It felt better/softer, looked better, required minimal maintenance, and will allegedly hold up much better over time (no cracking, fading, etc.).

Really? I've always thought of ALL of the German cars as having the nicest interiors. They always look so cozy and comfortable yet high tech and high quality, lol. Also seems like father time takes less of a toll on them. You must be leasing if it became a toss up between Lexus and Audi! I wouldn't know personally but I've heard Audi's cars are designed to fall apart soon after their warranty / lease terms are up! Their resell value certainly reflects that.

This sucks! Drove down a very country road last night with no lighting, a sharp turn that I couldn't see and there was no warning sign for it at all! I slid off the road and landed in a ditch. Air bags deployed and steering wheel is pushed back and cant even get the key in or out. The car only has liability coverage because it didnt cost enough to justify gettinf if. On top of that, my lower back is KILLING  me to the point that its unbearable and I literally can't use my back muscles to try to get myself up from sitting. Its the most incredible pain trying to stand up frim sitting. And my left hand hurts like hell since it was on the wheel at the time.. This is such a disaster! I need to figure out how to get to work or use what money i have saved for a beater with a heater  guess. It would probably cost way too much to fix this than what igs worth. Uurrggghhh. I wish I didnt live in the middle of nowhere where there's better transit options for when stuff like this happens. D@mn this sucks!!!

There are a bunch of lawyers on this site (@LlamaLawyer, @YABO713, others) ....just wondering, is there any liability here for whoever owns that country road to have at least put up a sign warning of a sharp turn ahead to ensure the public safety from a government-created hazard where this is a presumption of safety (they built the road in that way)?

No - and as a lawyer I'd recommend against it. If you acknowledge some sort of inherent danger or fallibility then you'd also (arguably) be assuming some responsibility for it - and therefore liability.

Thanks for your insight. The argument makes sense otherwise cities would be bankrupt everywhere. Is the "inherent danger" you cite the simple act of driving on a public road?

I once had a law professor who explained that, as a homeowner, you're better off not shoveling snow from your porch.

The moment you begin shoveling, you assume a responsibility for its condition.

Even if this is true, I always err on the side of being a good neighbor and shovel the snow from the sidewalk and porch.

Sounds like its an old road that was not engineered, typically they followed great lines (section/Township lines) and jig-jogged wherever. There is no implied duty for the agency to sign every sharp curve on low-volume roads.  UNLESS, the agency is aware of a safety issue** at that location and has not acted on it yet if they are able.

**1 or 2 crashes does not imply a safety issue.  The crash rate is compared against roads of similar volumes and classifications and settings and if its higher than the peer locations then there may be an issue. Then the location has to be ranked and compete against other safety issues for funding. Others may point out, proving negligence of a public agency is a high bar. (I am not a Lawyer)

Lets say I shovel the walk. Then I go to work. Sun comes out, melts it some, then it gets cloudy again and the water refreezes into ice. Someone falls and dies. The neighbors didn't shovel their walks and they only had safe snow on them. All this happens while I'm at work. I would have had to stay home and monitor the condition of the walk all day because I tried to be "nice" by shoveling.
