The non-coastal cities are more likely to lose their white-collar jobs and go blue-collar only as compared to the coasts.

I had an  interesting dinner with a senior Georgetown Univ. professor last night. He said that for the first time in years not all the graduates have jobs or even offers. They apparently limit their opportunities by only considering coastal locations. Nothing in the middle of the country is even considered and that includes booming/formerly-booming Texas, Nashville, Denver, Chicago, etc.

I guess the civic promoters are doing the right thing trying to keep local grads in town after graduation.

its not uncommon — because my grad program was fully paid i bound to stay in ohio for a year (morally). in the end i did it of course — although i did secretly also interview out of state at the time (i was the only one to even do that).

also, afaik most g’towners are from around the east coast anyway and of course they (and the dookies) are wannabe ivys, so they have a weird lowkey snobbery.

and last but not least, they’re rich, so they can take a gap year, i ain’t worried about’em lol.

I was one of about 10 Clevelanders in my Georgetown class, which was about 30% greater NYC and 10% each Boston and Philly.

I'm not soliciting pity for Georgetown grads specifically, but rather for this year's grads in general. They are not getting the job offers they expected, and still they refuse to broaden their searches.

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

"most g’towners are from around the east coast anyway and of course they (and the dookies) are wannabe ivys,"

Minor factoid:  Georgetown isn't an Ivy-wannabe, it's an Ivy-couldabeen.  They were twice invited to join the Ivy League, the motive for the invitation being the New England schools desire to play a GU football game at which they could pamper their Washington-area alums.  The District of Columbia objected because the Ivy League imposes athletic scholarship restrictions which would have limited opportunities for local athletes, the District felt.

Thus the Ivies play Georgetown as an independent school.

^ that's interesting, but the funny point is they both are southern schools that treat themselves like they are ivys. they are the fake elector schools of the ivy league. sometimes it's said northwestern is the midwest ivy too, but they know better than act like they are an ivy.

How would I go about creating a map of every Tim Misny billboard?

I would really like to know the full extent of Misny's power and influence.

I've seen one just south of Lodi, near the Sandusky offramps from 80 and 2, and one just outside Malvern-15 min southeast of Canton.

Nothing tops the "Mr. Rooter" billboard that showed a toilet full of the poop emoji.

There was one on 90E, around Eddy Road.

The "Jesus Is Coming" billboard on S. Waterloo between Adultmart and the Den was classic as well.

My personal favorite billboard placement, a few years back in Newark. I wanted to think prosthetic guy chose the billboard next to the Jolly Pirate parking lot on purpose...but it wasn't up for very long.

I recently read the terms of a credit card agreement (Bloomingdales) which the issuers hope you never read;  their current rate of interest on unpaid balances is 34.49%. Kind of took my breath away.

Most people probably see it as $2.87 a month on a $100 balance; it almost seems like a bargain that way.

I'm not far from that, tbh.   Part of that's my hearing.

Though texting is weak.  Formal e-mail is far and away the best form of business communication there is.   Voice phone is way too prone to error and gabby people wasting time.

Under 65.

The B'Harnii show tried to counter that among that age group but caught heat for doing so irresponsibly.

Was this the old Gatsby's, that dates back to when I was young enough to play sand/beach volleyball?  It was a cool place.  There also are the old Berea station and the old Kent Pufferbelly's sitting quietly....

Yes, though that's way before my time I looked it up.

They had midget wrestling on their lawn awhile back.

They are apparently staying open during the sale.

Pretty much this.   It can be a challenge for those of us raised in the 60s and 70s to raise kids in the 20s when their friends are like this.

VIENNA, Austria — From sundials to atomic clocks, humanity’s quest to measure time has been a journey of increasing precision. Now, that journey has reached a new frontier with the creation of the world’s first nuclear clock – a device that promises to revolutionize everything from GPS navigation to our understanding of physics by using the core of an atom itself.

This milestone, reported in the journal Nature, marks the dawn of a new era in precision timekeeping. The development pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in measurement science and brings us one step closer to unraveling the mysteries of the universe.

Well I hope Gilbert will soon give us similar on his NuCLEus site (hopefully skyline changing as often repeated on UO) and on our riverfront.  Gilbert did land GM so kudos to him. I wish he would save us from HSG and buy the Browns.

Well flying a bird back at the Motor City would be better than the proposed Jenga tower, I suppose.

Understand we all see things differently…seeing the nearly complete tower pic above with the vertical banding, I first imagined the 5 vertical columns lit in 5 different colors at night to resemble a histogram.

I am at a loss for what to get my boomer parents for Christmas.   They literally have everything!   And they are comfortable in retirement so buy themselves things they need/want all year long.  I've exhausted all the Omaha Steaks, Hickory Farms and other holiday delivered food gifts.

Anyone seen anything really cool for gifts this year?

If you follow my dad's Facebook feed you would think that...

Meanwhile he's quite comfortable and has no financial worries at all.

Cafe 8, a Capitol Hill bar, a couple blocks north of the Marine Barracks on 8th Street, S.E., has banned patrons under 30 years of age.  Citing noise, rowdiness, and crime, the owners said the young folks business wasn't worth it.  The city says is probably counter to DC access laws; but, because of our adversarial justice system, they are waiting for a complaint in order to act.

Maybe the restaurant should simply raise prices and then offer a senior discount to those over 30.
