November 11, 200816 yr catch the chick "posing" on the right side of the screen! I would have had here moved 10 blocks up! ... but check out the brother to the left trying to get a little upskirt action. lol I love tall women. I wouldn't mind being with one that's 5'11-6' but that woman is a freak of nature.

November 11, 200816 yr As long as she's hot, I don't care. Btw..I just realized she's only 6'5. They made her look taller with the camera angle.
November 11, 200816 yr As long as she's hot, I don't care. Btw..I just realized she's only 6'5. They made her look taller with the camera angle. Only. Shit she's taller than me. I wouldn't go out with a woman (no jokes) that tall. My grand mother and aunt are both 6'3/6''4" and that is just too much woman if your shorter than them.
November 11, 200816 yr I like my women like I like my coffee Cuban! Vida Guerra ;D Laaaaaaaawd. Que usted haria con "hottie" tuvo gusto de ella? Usted iria loco! Primero, aprenda el espanol antes usted intente hasta la fecha nuestras mujeres! :whip:

November 12, 200816 yr Are they going to learn mine? And that language would be? hillbilly Laaaawd! Translate that for me!
November 12, 200816 yr Haven't been on in awhile, but I caught this article from a music website. Found it hilarious, you think Spain could sue Columbus, OH? http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2008/11/turkish-town-batman-sues-christopher-nolan.html

I can tell you this. Payback is a bitch and I don't play fair! >:D
November 12, 200816 yr This is hilarious! We need more of these 'godless' heathens to come out and vote more often :) Hagan got 3,600 donations after 'Godless' By ryanteaguebeckwith on November 12, 2008 An attack ad linking Kay Hagan to the Godless Americans PAC boosted her instead. The Democratic senator-elect's campaign received 3,600 contributions within 48 hours of an ad by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole criticizing her for attending a fundraiser. Hagan immediately used the ad as an e-mail fundraising tool. "We got responses from people who identify themselves as atheists and every religion under the sun who found that ad offensive," said Hagan spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan, who said the campaign hadn't calculated the dollar figure raised yet. Tom Jensen, a Democratic pollster in Raleigh, said Hagan was winning by four percentage points more than president-elect Barack Obama during early voting. After the ad aired, she won by 11 percentage points more than Obama. Dole said the $3 million personal loan she made her own campaign in early October was not specifically related to the ad.
November 15, 200816 yr My apartment walls are thin, and my neighbors incredibly loud alarm clock has been going off all night. He better get home before I try to kick off to sleep soon.
November 15, 200816 yr My apartment walls are thin, and my neighbors incredibly loud alarm clock has been going off all night. He better get home before I try to kick off to sleep soon. Thin walls? Just punch through, throw the alarm on the floor, and stomp it into a million pieces. Or maybe he's dead in there. Tell the building super you haven't seen the guy in a few days, and he'll most likely check it out in a hurry.

Just punch through, throw the alarm on the floor, and stomp it into a million pieces. Or maybe he's dead in there. Tell the building super you haven't seen the guy in a few days, and he'll most likely check it out in a hurry. Is this an ongoing problem? Do you hear other noises at various times of the day? I would have a polite conversation with your neighbor. He might not know that his alarm (or any other noises) can be heard in your apartment. Now if you have tried to discuss the issue, then I would do as Uncle Rob suggest!
November 15, 200816 yr First time I've had the alarm issue. It did turn off about 4:30. Are you on good terms with your neighbor? I would try speaking with them and letting them know that this "minor" annoyance and you wanted to bring it to their attention so that it doesn't happen again. and let them know that they should also feel free to talk to you about any "neighbor" issues they might have that relate only and directly to you.
November 15, 200816 yr I've never met him, and would rather not. That's the conundrum of thin walls- if I get to know the guy, it becomes like having a roommate. It might make him more considerate of his noise, but it also closes a mental and social distance that I prefer kept intact. You've seen "Office Space" right? I could have conversations through the wall with this guy, but I don't want to go there.
November 15, 200816 yr Then leave an anonymous note saying, "Hey you loud prick, shut the fuck up beyotch!" lol
November 16, 200816 yr I just started posting on SSP and realized the culture there is much different compared to here. For example: When UrbanOhioans act like they know what they're talking about, it's because they do know what they're talking about :-P
November 16, 200816 yr I like the construction threads over there. That's pretty much where all my posts are...that and My City Photos. That Google Sketchup thread sure contains some disastrous cities and worries me about our future architects and planners.
November 16, 200816 yr If you take classes or watch some tutorials, I think anyone can learn how to use sketchup well if they put enough time into it. I think it's great that a program like that is free. But from a few I've seen (of concept cities that don't exist), they definitely tend to be skyscraper cities and not ones that really pay attention to the spatial relationships of the various elements. I'm looking at all of these isolated skyscrapers surrounded by a bunch of large public spaces and parking lots and asking myself "WHY?" Just my two cents though - I'm probably not qualified to judge them well.
November 16, 200816 yr Well, thats what I was thinking of. They are overly concerned with whimsical geometries and huge masses on superblocks, also note how 50% of them are on a landform that represents Manhattan. Staunton is pretty sweet though, and has some nice street level perspectives as well as CityCity version whatever.
November 16, 200816 yr Haha SketchUp.. I'm no urban planner, but I love building cities in that program. I don't use many of the features but it's the only place where I can really express my obsession with urban street grids and transportation infrastructure. I was actually thinking of posting photos of my one city that I'm working on.

Staunton is pretty sweet though, and has some nice street level perspectives as well as CityCity version whatever. It's cool though. I bet downloading google earth and sketchup got a lot of them interested in planning related stuff. I remember being fascinated with Dubai's towers and judging cities by how big the skyline was and how tall the buildings were. Someone should organize a field trip for them to a certain wonderful southern destination called ATLANTA's TRAFFIC. Haha SketchUp.. Judging by your desktop, you would already have a huge head start over a lot of people. First thing I noticed though was the lack of trees. I would've lined those streets with trees and added a pocket park in there somewhere. I think a little greenspace is refreshing.
November 16, 200816 yr I have one word to say, "legendary" (snap)!

First thing I noticed though was the lack of trees. I would've lined those streets with trees and added a pocket park in there somewhere. I think a little greenspace is refreshing. I would love to go to school for that, but I think the math would kill me. If I worked my @ss off I could probably do it. Im not sure what exact field that would be though. And yeah, my little city lacks a lot of detail. Like I have noticed that the shoulders on most of the streets could be widened and used for parking. But then my sidewalks would be too narrow. I think a 7 foot wide sidewalk would be a little too narrow. And I haven't gotten to the trees or vegetation yet. That photo from my desktop is a small portion of the city also. Here is an Urban Ohio-style photo of the city near where my desktop photo was taken: There is no vegetation or traffic but I plan to add all that when I feel that I am satisfied with everything.
November 16, 200816 yr ... There is no vegetation or traffic but I plan to add all that when I feel that I am satisfied with everything. Pretty neat, looks like an appealing downtown in the making. When you add the details, don't forget the little things that make it an authentic urban scene. There should be at least one panhandler, somebody with all their possessions in plastic 30-gallon bags piled in a grocery cart, and some forty-five-year-old in frayed bell-bottoms and a mullet, smoking a cigarette while he rides a beat-up bike on the sidewalk. Don't mind me. I've been bingeing on caffeine and sugar this afternoon.
November 16, 200816 yr LMAO Thanks Rob, I'll take those into consideration. It's a beach town with a boardwalk and a strip so maybe that would be a great place for those items you mentioned lol.
November 16, 200816 yr ^ Ooh, ooh, to make it like Portsmouth, the 45 year old guy has to be on a 20 inch girls bike.
November 16, 200816 yr DJ, that sketchup city is awesome! You should post it over there, it would put 90% of them to shame. Great scale and detail. BTW, I have realistic, good resolution, tileable brick textures that look good and don't create a "patterned look" if you'd like them. I can post them here in this thread for everyone to take.
November 16, 200816 yr I think that's DJ's calling in life lol. I would live in that sketchup model once he adds trees.
November 16, 200816 yr Thanks hayward that would be awesome if you did that. I'd add more detail, but the more I add, the more stress the program puts on my computer. And I have a MacBook Pro. Is there any way of making it run better? And yeah maybe I will post my city over on SSP. I lurk over there every once in a while. And David, I would live there too. That building at the far left would house my dream condo haha.
November 17, 200816 yr So I guess if I didn't have to work tomorrow I would be going out to get a drink =P Being 21 will be interesting lol.
November 17, 200816 yr Go after work, dumb@ss. That's the best time ;) If they don't notice you just turned 21 after looking at your license, be sure to mention it's your first time drinking at a bar. They'll most likely give you a drink on the house. I had an awesome experience when I turned 21 b/c I worked at a restaurant and the bartender hooked me up WHILE I was working. He said "here..try this double shot espresso ;)" Then we all went out to a bar afterwards. People love partying with the person that just turned 21 and buying them drinks so take full advantage!
November 17, 200816 yr There are ways to make your city perform better on any computer. 1. Use components whenever possible. Make windows and doors components so that they become instances when you multiply them throughout your model. It also shrinks your model size and eases the workload when your computer renders out the model every time you shift the viewport. When I build my models, almost everything is a component, but that maybe a problem if you intend your model to be presentable in sketchup instead of using photo realistic rendering programs like kerkythea (free) or 3ds Max (several thousand $) 2. Use layers. Make the buildings on each block a layer. While you work, make blocks "not visible" that you don't intend to touch while you work on other buildings. It's useless to have them display and drag the whole system down when you aren't editing them specifically. Only display them when you intend to see an overview of your work, or plan to take screenshots. 3. Avoid using a lot of arcs. Circles are awful for some reason. I realize they create lots of little faces, but it never seems like enough to kill your processing speed. Regardless, sketchup seems to hate having a lot of them. 4. Know your limits. At some point, your city may simply become too huge. So huge that it becomes an operating failure. Save your model as different names as you move along so that when you hit the tipping point, you can at least step back to the last file and say "I'm done." and move onto something else. This issue is caused by all your memory being maxed out. I was able to save one of my projects by opening it up at a rendering farm, deleting some buildings and resaving it. Here's one of my projects form last year. This was as big as I could get. The file was also 450 Mb and contained very highly detailed buildings. In fact we modeled the gutters and downspouts on the houses way in the back. Not pictured above was the freeway which had curves, grades, overpasses, and hillsides fully modeled. That was a major part of the problem. None of the terrain in this model was flat, so our file was big and slow before we even put the buildings on it. In fact buildings accounted for about 5% of the overall "lag" to the model. So maybe you won't encounter as many problems as we had. Also, DO NOT ever use 3d Trees DO NOT ever use 3d Trees DO NOT ever use 3d Trees!
November 17, 200816 yr After you already having a background in architecture and being able to pay so close attention to details, I can't imagine the stark contrast between these models and those of the rest of the planning class, during the critique.
