I bet he drives just like you ;)

I'm going to have to be 100% honest on this one, but being six years in SE Michigan where people just drive wherever all over the road, you kind of fall into that habit.  Never been in an accident though.  When I drive in Detroit, I tend to drift out of lanes (like everyone else).  It's funny to watch out-of-staters come into town.  They get all frustrated and upset at the other drivers.  Me?  I just don't care.  That's why you don't hear people in SE Michigan honk their horns much.

Going home though, it's different.  People up in Saginaw can be nasty on the road.  Very aggressive drivers, and speeders too.

Hopefully this isn't a bad sign.  I was driving on the UAW freeway the other day through Flint when a chunk of the body came loose.  It began to drag on the pavement and send up a few sparks.  I need to glue it back on lol

Well that's why you're supposed to put the body in the trunk, not under the car. You're from Saginaw, you should know this.

I have the flu and I have nothing better to do than browse the forum all night in case anyone is wondering why I'm up. I've been surviving off Pedialyte for the past day lol

What would send up sparks from a body?  Oh yeah the "gold grill"

Yikes this is getting weird lol.

So it was the back part of the truck bed.  I knew the bracing had rusted out and I should have gotten it repaired earlier, but now it's fixed.  I was actually in a shady area of Flint when it happened (late at night)  Chavez at Longway, I can't remember.

lolol

I have an uncle from Flint. He got shot in the stomach when he was a little kid (caught up in a crossfire - sad). but he said that at the time, since Flint had so many murders and shootings, they had one of the best hospitals in the country to get treated for it despite Flint being so small. I thought that was funny (minus him being shot, obviously).

Yeah, Flint has good hospitals.  Genesis, HurLey, and McLaren are all good.  I don't like Genesis' billboard on the freeway something like "If you exit now you are more likely to survive the heart attack you're having"  Can't remember the exact words....but I'll keep that in mind when I'm 45, eating french fries, while driving.

I'm sure all hospitals treat gunshots wounds well, but it's interesting to think that some hospitals do far more procedures than others.  How many gunshot wounds does U of M hospital in Ann Arbor treat?  I think my whole six years in Ann Arbor, there maybe was one shooting?  What I do know was that it took them forever to re-attach the tip of my finger when I accidentally cut that off because the emergency room was overflowing.  Ah... the days of cutting plexiglas in architecture school, watch the blade.

i disliked the photo spread.

It's obvious the author is a smoker who's all upset about the proposed smoking ban, and trying to divert attention by making a lot of noise about something else.

Yeah, take a look at his other pages. I actually stumbled upon his Bridge Day commentary, but was turned off by just about everything else.

OK, I'm really angry.  People in my building have been missing mail lately.  There's been a flurry of notes posted on the downstairs door with messages like "have you seen my package, it was confirmed delivery, but not there!"  One of my neighbors claimed she had her mail stolen, and some said there's had been opened and thrown on the floor.  Now I was the recent target.  I got a valentine from my parents earlier this month with a $20 gift certificate and it was stolen.  I know it arrived because I saw it on my way out in my box, but I couldn't take it because I had nowhere to put the card.  When I returned it was missing.  I don't think it's someone in the building, rather someone off the street.  I haven't seen any homeless sleeping in the vestibule, so I can't think of anyone in particular.  It just ticks me off.  I asked my parents not to resend the gift, even though they really wanted to.  I think I'm going to discontinue my address and get a postal box since I don't live far.  All my bills are already online.

I'd probably do that if you get a lot of mail. I don't think your front door in the building locks... right? If not, it might be something to input to your landlord. Postal theft is a felony and is a very serious crime -- not only because it is theft, but because it is theft of identity, financial information and so forth. Who knows what has been stolen, but it is very serious.

The front door to the vestibule doesn't lock, but it technically isn't supposed to be an issue since tens of millions have their mailboxes by the street or by their front door.  There's not really much my landlord can do, and I don't expect him to do anything.  The bronze mailbox unit probably can't be ripped out since I live in a historical landmark.  There are locks on them, but mail is so different today that we can't lock them or it won't fit.

^ Tell your landlord.  There are very cheap, very small security camera systems at places like radio shack.  A big printed picture of the guy doing it with a "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PERSON? WANTED FOR FELONY" printed on it and posted on the door might scare him/her away, at the very least.

Even a dummy camera in plain view with a sign posted will probably do the trick. They sell them at home depot. prob radio shack as well. Theres no wiring, just maybe a battery to light an LED.

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers

8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election

By EWEN CALLAWAY

Feb. 28, 2009

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.

"When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

This doesn't surprise me.  Those who condemn and criticize others are some of the biggest undercover freaks.

^ That, and religious states are harder to get laid in, so people turn to porn.

hahah

Holy Schenectady!  My world's epicenter is in a music video.  Check this thing out.  Not only is it an great music video, but it also chronicles the hell we go through on a weekly basis in Milwaukee.

Shot #4 (or 5 if you count the clouds) is my little world.  The red awning is my local Walgreens, I live immediately behind that strip mall, and I work at the Starbucks in the tan building in the bottom-right of that shot.

This makes me SO happy.

That is so awsome!!

I knew a young man whose parents, in a effort to get him "straightened out" after he came out to them, sent him to Grace College, a Christian liberal arts college and theological seminary at Winona Lake, Indiana. He was having the time of his life. He said gay sex was easier to get at that school than any other place he had ever been.

Winona Lake was the center of old-time-religion preacher Billy Sunday, back in the day. He's still memorialized there.

Since it worked so well the first time, let me try it again...

Anyone know any good books, legit resources on public housing?  I am doing a research paper on public housing and I am trying to determine whether a policy of isolation is better than one of "spreading" it out.

Don't know if this helps, but I remember reading about a report making a similar point that focused on Memphis.  I want to say it was in Atlantic?  I'm not sure.  I think I saw it on Slate, so search those sites.  Anyway-- they found that contrary to expectations, new social norms were not widely adopted by section 8 families in new higher-income neighborhoods.  So it didn't help the families as much as anyone had hoped, and it hurt the areas they were put in.

My take on that is OK maybe these expectations were a little high.  But it's a process we need to go through sooner or later, so we might as well get it out of the way.  Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette.  The social norms in question (commotion, disarray, a different view of cops & robbers) didn't develop overnight, so they'll probably take decades to change.  We do need to get to the other side of it though.

Can we please talk about gas fireplaces?  I find these a complete mystery.  Why would you run a gas fireplace for warmth instead of just turning on the heat; surely it can't be THAT much cheaper, can it?

Having looked at houses now for over a year, I can't believe how many have a gas fireplace.  I just do not get the appeal at all.  Why not just put a picture of a fireplace up on your computer and turn on a space heater.  It's not a real fireplace!

I can understand people not wanting to deal with the hassle of starting a fire or the smell/smoke or whatever, but why would you then put in a fake fireplace instead?  I just find nothing cozy about sitting around a fake log to get warm.

WOAH x 2!!!!!!

First - Oh, Sherman, that is beyond words.  Good luck regaining your pride.

Second - I was searching for "Mayor Mallory in Kimono" on google and a pic from Sinsinnati.com showed up.  I'm curious if anyone knows what this website is.  There are a whole bunch of Cincinnati specific links. WARNING: NOT WORK OR SHARED FAMILY ROOM APPROPRIATE!!!

People don't want to deal with a real fire, but they enjoy the status symbol of the hearth.  I'm guessing most of these rarely get turned on, even though they've made it so easy.  Real is less important than image nowadays.

I have two in my house. One is covered by a toy box. The other used to poison us, as the gas line had a small leak. We have since turned off the gas never to be used again. With three young'uns I don't light many fires.

Any attempt to take that last phrase and turn it into a double entendre will be met with furious wrath!
