Is anyone here (or someone you know) going to try out for American Idol in Cleveland on August 3-4th at Cleveland Browns Stadium?

(not me, by the way)

I'm sure Mayday is going to make the trip. The Pope may bless all of us with his presence as well.

someone from the Cleveland area made it to the finals last time, he was so cheezy

Nah, junebug, I know I can't sing well and I'd rather not be the butt of national jokes.

I have no idea why i'm telling anybody this but I think I'm in love with a girl named Heather. I'm going nutts trying to keep her off my mind. She is the hottest, sweetest, & smartest girl I've ever been with. I really think she is the one. The funny thing is, we've only been talking to each other for about a week. I think sometimes you just know when you hit the jackpot.

^

I used to feel like that sometimes when I met a girl.

Good luck.

^

I know what you mean about the sometimes part because this is the first girl I've felt this way in about 5 years. I mean, I've dated a lot of girls since my last major relationship and none of them compare to Heather. I just don't know what to say cause this girl has got me twisted. I think my pimpin' days might be over.

looks good...in the broadway commons part the sign looks like its a capri sun drink

Me likey! Nice job, Jayson!

Do you know where Southfield, MI is? I'm going there on business in a couple of weeks. Unless, of course, my schedule changes, which it does daily.

I thought it was based out of Lex.

The first store was opened in Lexington. The company is based out of Cincy, though--I think the owners are UC alumni.

I heard that the Michigan Terrace development in Hyde Park is a go. I'm sure the story will be in the paper tomorrow, and I'll make a thread.

Damn, I'll miss that abandoned Shell station... :D

FYI...

World News Tonight on ABC is coming to Cincinnati tomorrow night at 6:30. They'll be broadcasting from Drees Pavilion in Devou Park.

Though I hate Peter Jennings and the network news in general, it will be cool to see a national broadcast with the skyline in the backdrop. Hopefully the sun will have broken out by then.

Plus WNT always does a local story when they do these road trips. Since the theme of their week on the road is "swing states", it will probably be something with a political bent. Hopefully they don't make us look too much like a bunch of conservative pricks.

So did anyone watch?

I don't have a tv :???:

I forgot :(

He is supposed to be in Cleveland tonight though.

I watched it. It was nothing special--it was so damn foggy that you couldn't see the skyline out the Drees Pavilion window.

Going to commercial breaks, they did show a shot of that angle that was clearly filmed on a sunny, clear day.

The story was not really a local one, but a story about Issue 1 (gay marriage). It tended to lean heavily toward interviewing people who were for the amendment. Plus there was too much of Phil Burress. :(

^ Here's the Cincinnati Post's take:

ABC viewers saw fog, little of city's skyline

By Rick Bird

Post staff reporter

Sorry about that, Peter. It was foggy and dank in Cincinnati on Tuesday.

So much for that idea to anchor the ABC "World News Tonight" from an overlook in Covington's Devou Park, with its spectacular view of the city's skyline.

Peter Jennings, on his own tour of key swing states, anchored his newscast from the city Tuesday night welcoming national viewers by saying, "Greetings from the bridges of Cincinnati in the fog tonight." And then it was on to the rest of the world news, with Cincinnati only featured a few minutes of the 22-minute broadcast.

Greater Cincinnati civic boosters were probably disappointed that the magic shot of the downtown skyline from the Devou overlook could hardly be seen over Jennings' shoulder through the mist and fog.

Indeed, Jennings and ABC producers were probably not thrilled, either, after touting their four-city "World News Tonight" tour. Jennings might as well have been perched in "Anywhere USA" for all viewers could see from the soupy mush.

About the only substantive nod during the broadcast that he was in town came when Jennings cited the day's University of Cincinnati poll -- which he assured viewers was "widely regarded as respectable" -- showing Bush and Kerry are in essentially a dead heat in the state.

Jennings prides himself in getting out and reporting "local" stories on his road rips. His local issue here was the Ohio debate over state Issue One, which declares only a union between a man and a woman will be valid as a marriage. Jennings introduced the nation to a familiar religious conservative activist in this area, interviewing Phil Burress of the Citizens for Community Values.

Burress told Jennings, "Marriage is the most important institution created by God and the state has embraced it."

Jennings' report concluded the mobilization of social conservatives for the anti-gay, pro-marriage amendment may be the vote that "lifts the tide and carries Ohio into the Bush column."

Jennings, who arrived in Cincinnati late Monday, spent the day in town. In an interview with The Post before his arrival, he admitted such road trips are a chance to both "smell the air" to do some reporting and to "renew a relationship with the affiliates."

He did promos at ABC affiliate WCPO-TV (Channel 9), appeared on the station's early morning and evening newscasts and was a guest at a Tuesday night reception the station hosted for its advertisers.

Jennings, who was in Kansas City on Monday, will be in Cleveland tonight and Pittsburgh on Thursday.

and he's in cleveland tonight (i think)

I just wanted to post something in this sorry thread.

The American Classical Music Hall of Fame will move from the Herschede building on Fourth St. to the Hamilton County Memorial Building on Elm St. in Over-the-Rhine (right next to Music Hall).

That is all. Proceed as normal.

Didn't know that. Interesting.

Really...why the fuck does it take so long to get a book from Amazon.com?  Shit, I ordered a Rand McNally Dayton map on the 24th.  It was supposed to show up on the 1st or 2nd.  Now it's been "pushed back" until the 6th-9th.

For ONE FUCKING BOOK?  I realize it's the holiday season, but it shouldn't take 2 weeks to send one book.  I sent them a bitter e-mail.  I told them I'd never buy anything from them again (and I won't unless I get a gift certificate).

one time out of the blue, amazon accidentally shipped me an Iron Maiden DVD and i still received what i really ordered

Why not go to a local drugstore, newstand, or Barnes & Noble? I'm sure you could get a map of Dayton at one of those locations (unless you don't live in Ohio).

As long as you can put up with the shoddy cartography and out-of-date data.  I think I'll pass.

What's wrong with the AAA maps?  Other than a very few mislabeled streets, I've never noticed a problem.

AAA is also great when your roommate is learning to drive on your car and gets it stuck in the mud.

I had a gift card I needed to use up.

BTW...I bitched and complained, and I got an e-mail today saying that they shipped it yesterday.  Plus they're going to credit me $4.  I pays to whine!  :D

Check this out...from the 12/7/04 Enquirer:

Cincinnati officers return to 'Cops'

Cincinnati police will be featured again on Fox TV's "Cops" (8 p.m. Saturday, (Channels 19, 45). This week's topic: Prostitution. This is the second time the department will figure prominently in the program. The city's participation was controversial - Chief Tom Streicher OK'd it in May, some council members objected and he rescinded the invitation. Streicher reinvited the production company a few days later after a wave of public support.

Cool...I'll tune in so I know where to go for some cracked out nasty chicks!!!!

Anybody watch?

It was the third segment and involved the Cincinnati police.  They busted an guy and a girl in an abandoned car at Race and Henry in OTR.  They found crack in the car and the guy's fly was unzipped.

The funniest part was when they were talking about how they were both in rehab (him for crack, her for heroin).  He was trying to get her to smoke crack instead of using heroin because he wanted to get her to switch to his drug of choice.  LOL
