November 6, 200915 yr Also off topic: I wish EVERY restaurant participating in restaurant week would post their special prix fixe menu on their website. I don't want to be surprised, I want to know what you're offering. Oh, and F*CK YOU to the restaurants either not sticking to the $30 prix fixe (hyde park) and not offering it on fridays (Crop). You won't be getting my business. If I could regularly afford $25-30 per entree, I wouldn't need to wait until restaurant week to try to patronize your restaurant!
November 6, 200915 yr No child should be disrespectful to their parent(s). lol...yeah, but every one of them is. I believe that teenagers should all be sent away to an island (can we do temporary sterilization?) and left there from ages 13 to 19 until they can prove that they can be helpful members of society. They are so messed up in the head that they could reasonably plead insanity to just about anything that they do wrong. My nephews and nieces are very respectful, they don't have choice. They make very good grades. My parents, my brother & skank-in-law nor I will tolerate that. I was a calculating kid, I know every torture test there is. The kids know they can't pull one over on me. I told my brother, he should put my nephew out. That will straighten his ass out!

I favor boot camp until they demonstrate that they've internalized the concepts of thinking before they act or open their mouths, and treating other people with the same respect that they'd like to receive.

I'd favor this for most people. maybe on a three strikes basis...with everyone being able to give you a warning if you're being an asshat. three strikes within a week and you're off to boot camp.

You're right. Many people who look old enough to be adults, even seniors, probably would benefit by a remedial or refresher course. For some, though, an occasional quick smackdown on the street corner probably would be a sufficient wake-up. Too bad I'm not a big guy.
November 6, 200915 yr In addition to my nephew, would anyone like two assistants?? They are very good at running an office, but their mouth's! I hope they both choke on confetti! Bastards!
November 6, 200915 yr In addition to my nephew, would anyone like two assistants?? They are very good at running an office, but their mouth's! I hope they both choke on confetti! Bastards! I've been having this conversation multiple times over the last few days. Yes, the system stinks that allows 3-4 big money teams buy as many players as they need to win. But that is the system. So I say enjoy it. Enjoy the opportunity to see some of the greatest players of their time play on the same team. The Yankees belong to everyone. They're America's team....

I've been getting grief from my staff since June. Then I had to live thru the playoff's. Most of my team went to wednesday game. I wanted to kill them all. I hate the Yankee's most out of all the NYC teams. They've been sending picture since 10:45. This was one of their messages, "Guess who's in an Empire State of Mind?! A-Rod and Jay-Z are sharing a float." Why did I hire them?? :whip:

November 6, 200915 yr I'm certain you will have your revenge at some time when they least expect. I shall and it will be painful. They will suffer. Especially since those two brats told me they weren't coming to work today. I don't know what to do with myself. There are a ton of messages on the phone, but I don't know how to retrieve them. :|
November 8, 200915 yr Me. It wasn't something that was diagnosed when I was in school, but my report cards bear testimony with comments like "easily distracted" and "cannot seem to apply himself to the task at hand." Somebody will have to remind me to come to the meetings, though. Better yet, pick me up to make sure I don't get distracted on the way and take off to follow a fire truck. I hope I don't have to sit through meetings without falling asleep, interrupting, or completely losing track of what's going on because I see a bird building a nest in a tree outside the window.
November 8, 200915 yr Im not even able to read a chapter of a book without becoming distracted. On the other hand Im not hyper at all.
November 8, 200915 yr I hope I don't have to sit through meetings without falling asleep, interrupting, or completely losing track of what's going on because I see a bird building a nest in a tree outside the window. I feel that. The novelty wears off quick and I have to move on to something else, even if it's important that I stay focused. Im not even able to read a chapter of a book without becoming distracted. On the other hand Im not hyper at all. I'm not either. But I do (unknowingly) say provocative/offensive things to get a rise out of people. I don't mean to...it just...happens... lol.
November 8, 200915 yr I am fascinated by ADD as my nephew seems to have it. He is like a GENIUS, the things he knows are completely scary, but he is almost flunking out of school because of his inability to pay attention, it's really hard for his parents to deal with. He forgets everything. Forgets what his homework is supposed to be so they buy him a notebook just to write down homework assignments. Forgets it repeatedly, eventually loses it and doesn't know where. Has lost 2 lunchboxes already this year, etc. His last school, they insisted my sister put him on Ritalin and it didn't help him at all, it just made him really tired and unequally able to complete anything, and he said it made him feel dead inside so they had to pull him completely out of that school and send him to another because they won't let him continue if he wasn't on Ritalin. It just sounds like a nightmare. I mean, my nephew is a complete science nerd - he subscribes to Popular Science! At 13, and reads it cover to cover, but he is almost flunking out of the 8th grade right now because of his poor academic performance.
November 8, 200915 yr My son is the same way R and R. He is 10 in 5th grade but tests at a 9th grade level. He was doing horrible in school until we put him in aderall. He is doing so much better now.
November 8, 200915 yr Thanks rich. My sister tried that but it made my nephew lose his appetite and he is already battling being underweight and not at his proper height due to growth problems from all his food allergies, so she just couldn't keep him on that and have him not eat. Argh, such a problem. I just wonder how it happens to begin with, if there's anything anyone can do to avoid it, do you ever outgrow it, is it a genetic, environmental, a combination, etc.
November 8, 200915 yr I was a similar case. Sometime in middle school I went from an A student to a C student while still testing in the top 1-5%. I was on a low dose Ritalin treatment for half a year. It helped but it caused me to become highly agitated in the afternoons, so it was stopped. Eventually my parents hired a personal tutor that I met with after school. She helped me get and stay organized and prioritize my work.
November 8, 200915 yr It's weird some kids grow out of it. My middle nephew was hyper as all get out, until he was 6/7. He would start something, then just stop and be on to something else.
November 8, 200915 yr ... But I do (unknowingly) say provocative/offensive things to get a rise out of people. I don't mean to...it just...happens... lol. That was a problem for me, too. First thing into my head was next thing out of my mouth, and there was no censoring or playing it in my mind to see how it sounded, first. I seriously offended a lot of people without any ill intent. It took until I was in my 40s to rein it in most of the time, but I still have to monitor myself carefully in some situations. I'm still prone to messing up when I'm tired or when I've been drinking. In those situations, my impulse control goes to zero. The worst thing is that without self-monitoring I have a strong talent for instantly firing off deadly-incisive one-liners that cut right to the bone. Sometimes I'd realize what just came out of my mouth, and think, "Holy Crap! Where in hell did that come from? :-o" The doctor told me that once they hit puberty they usually level out then. Aha! Maybe there's hope for me, yet! :-D ... is it a genetic, environmental, a combination, etc. In my family it seems like there's a hereditary element; ADHD runs rampant in my Dad's side of the family. Looking back, I realize that Dad was seriously ADHD, and it's amazing how much he accomplished in spite of it. He was accident-prone when working around the farm, and riding with him in a car was a scary event. ADHD affects one of my brothers, children of both my brothers, one of my cousins, and children of both of my cousins. One of Dad's great-grandfathers died when he walked in front of a train, and given the circumstances I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Dyslexia appears frequently on Dad's side, too.
November 8, 200915 yr The doctor told me that once they hit puberty they usually level out then. Aha! Maybe there's hope for me, yet! ;D LMAO Lawd!

November 8, 200915 yr "The worst thing is that without self-monitoring I have a strong talent for instantly firing off deadly-incisive one-liners that cut right to the bone." This is interesting, because my nephew has gotten in trouble for talking back to the teachers or insulting them by, say, correcting their spelling more than once. He claims he thinks they would "really want to know" if they were incorrect, but it's just seen as being a smart-ass of course. But he doesn't seem to have the capacity to censor himself or know that it's wrong to correct the teacher, even if they are wrong.
November 10, 200915 yr I remember playing that song in my elementary school band... Oh the memories...
November 10, 200915 yr I hate the song "Hang On Sloopy" It was never my favorite song, but compared to the garbage being produced by the talentless drones calling themselves singers who dominate the "music" industry today it was a masterpiece! http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
November 10, 200915 yr I hate the song "Hang On Sloopy" You must be an OSU alum. I too HATE that song.
November 10, 200915 yr ^ No, I am a Cincy Alum...I thought I hated it b/c its an OSU song (But I love the tradition of Script Ohio); but I realized now I really think its crappy song...our State can do better that that for the State Rock Song ;-) (Why do they play it @ Bengals games?)
November 10, 200915 yr ugh, it was cool to listen to in 4th Grade ohio history class, but OSU fans have forever ruin that song for me too...

Why did OSU fans, in particular, ruin that song for you?
November 10, 200915 yr ugh, it was cool to listen to in 4th Grade ohio history class, but OSU fans have forever ruin that song for me too... well since its already ruined, i'll ruin it even more for you. i never understood why its thee state rock song, that song was written by a couple of new yorkers. sure its definately an osu tradition, but a i'd think any honorary state song or state anything for that matter should be 100% by ohioans.
November 11, 200915 yr Let's just say I have a problem with the cult of OSU fans, the whole "Hang On Sloopy" O-H-I-O thing is annoying if you aren't into too. I went to the "real" Ohio University (not some Agricultural and Tech College http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_The_Ohio_State_University )and down in Athens we do a call and response "OH' -"IO". But that's just how I roll..... :-D I was raised to hate Ohio State, you are lucky that my position has softened over the years. At one point my father semi-seriously said the only way I was going there was on a full-ride. Tressel making the jump from YSU to OSU made me root for the Buckeyes for the first time in my life. PS: I know OSU fans do the call and response OH-IO too.
November 15, 200915 yr I was curious about what most people's insecurities are. I figured most people would have similar insecurities - I mean, we're all human. A lot of them did but I didn't expect them to be mostly about physical attributes. I thought people would say things like "I don't make enough money". "I'm not good at my job/school". "I'm not a very good parent". "I'm not very outgoing or funny". "I should have accomplished more with my life". Etc. But all I keep finding is "I have a really ugly nose" or "I'm too hairy". Or "I need to lose weight" It's funny how people are much more content with their character flaws or life situations than their physical attributes. I'm not going to lie; I do care about my looks and how good of shape i'm in, but it's not nearly as important as other things. What do you guys make of this?
November 15, 200915 yr One of the benefits of having reached "a certain age" is that I no longer feel the pressure to be concerned about physical attributes. It's still important to me to practice good hygiene, maintain a reasonably healthy lifestyle, and dress presentably, but when I was younger, a lot of my attention and energy were focused on my expectation that my clothes, haircut, weight, physical features, etc., determined how I was accepted by others. Now that I realize no one expects me to be pretty, I can pay more attention to my behavior and attitude, elements that sometimes got submerged in my concern over more superficial attributes. I guess I grew up more slowly than some.
November 15, 200915 yr I'm not going to lie; I do care about my looks and how good of shape i'm in, but it's not nearly as important as other things. What do you guys make of this? I've seen the picture, give it up! :)

I think that this is normal, especially now. This is a sign of our times. Men are starting to care more today than the previous generations - in how they look, dress, etc. and that's normal and okay.
November 15, 200915 yr zoicks, subway is back! "Subway's low-cost franchising model and mainstream appeal have allowed it to add 9,500 locations in the past five years...At its current growth rate of 40 new stores a week, Subway is poised to surpass McDonald's in worldwide locations sometime early next year." :-o http://ny.eater.com/archives/2009/11/world_domination.php

I've never even been in one of them. The odor emanating from them when you walk past is so repellent, yet evidently millions find it appetizing. All in all, it's no Blimpie's! lol Seriously, the only sub/hero place I ever liked was the old Quisno's in Columbus (superb quality, always fresh. At one point I think I ate there 3 times a week)--on Chittenden, I think (not to be confused with the Quizno's with a "z" chain--I always wondered if there was a connection...). But that's no longer there, is it?? http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
November 15, 200915 yr There are 7 subway locations within 4 miles of my home, so no surprise here. Cleveland is the Subway capital of the US! I don't mind subway. It's reasonably priced, you get your food quick and they have some good sandwiches, (my favorite is the sweet onion teriyaki ...mmmmm). A lot of Subway locations are hit or miss IMO since they're independently owned and the service varies so much. Some of the people who work there are straight up @ssholes!. At least in Columbus. That reminds me, Downtown Columbus sucks as far as cheap lunch options. There seems to be a Subway on every corner. And a Potbelly (yawn). Dunkin Donuts (yawn). Dunkin Donuts does have really good donuts (I like thte Boston Creme filled chocolate donuts) but you can't eat donuts all the time. We need a Chipotle. Or Panda Express.
