Is anyone going to be around town (Cleveland) tomorrow for Cinco de Mayo? I have the day off and do enjoy a beverage on occasion....

Who watches LOST?  Thoughts on last night episode.  It was very sad, three of my fave characters gone in just under 10 Min.

First overnight away from the baby last night, due to a meeting I'm working.  It was pretty bad.  I had this mistaken idea all these months that if I could just get a night away, I could finally catch up/get a good night's sleep.  No such luck.  I had a terrible time going to sleep even though I was exhausted from dealing with the meeting all day.  I woke up every couple of hours, thinking it was time to nurse the baby but of course he wasn't there. And no kitty behind my knees sleeping, and feather pillows, which I hate (I forgot to request foam), it wasn't a very restful night.  Mr. RNR reported it wasn't the best night for the baby either, he was pretty my inconsolable there a couple of times, despite being given a bottle.  I can't wait to get home tonight!

Remember this post in 14 or 15 years!  LOL

RnR, come on you are making me feel like a bad parent. I think we left our oldest overnight for the first time when he was 3 months old to go and get drunk at a wedding. I slept well that night, once we finally went to bed.

LOL.  I honestly have no desire to get drunk anymore unless I'm sitting at my desk dealing with all the stress of my job, like I am right now.

I'm going to bring Mr. and baby RNR with me to Cols for the big meeting I have to work this fall as I'll be there for several days.  I will just wither without them.

Well I was 24... He's going to be 8 this month, it's hard to believe how fast they grow up. We found out the other day he has a crush on Rachel Ray. He asked if she was married....He really like to eat and I think the cooking appeals to him...

Right, if I had been a parent at 24 I'd have probably wanted to go out and get ripped too :)  It's different being a first time parent at 41.

It's different not being 24. Period.

My mom presented me to the world when she was 24.

Raising kids now is so different than it was back then.  Hell, I can't believe I have teenage nieces and nephews!  I remember when they were in onesies and foot pjs.  Now they are mini adults.  They grow up so fast.  I'm all verklempted now.

Yes.  I've left my mark.  I'm trying to make the world a prettier, better dressed and more culturally sensitive place!

Was this an out-take of a capital one bank credit card parody gone wrong?

And the blond hair....eh, not so much!

Miniskirt?  It looks more like a Casual Corner or Chico's synthetic blend tunic to me.

I remember when my niece was a manipulative brat, and then an insufferable adolescent, and then a raging teen. Now she has kids of her own, and is an excellent mom. This evening I attended a youth concert at Trinity Episcopal Church, where a couple of her kids are involved in the youth music program.

Tomorrow I'll attend a dance recital that includes one of her daugters.

Sometimes it's really hard to stay in denial about being old.

My boss just came into my office to give me a positive feedback/compliments on some projects.  :?

I'll probably get fired on Monday.  When your boss makes unannounced visits, it's like the kiss of death!

When you move back home and are cutting the grass, I pity the first service guy who mistakes you as the gardener!

I don't do outside chores.  I have nephews and nieces!  Most likely it will be my brother who is mistaken for the domestic staff, since he and the kids are living at my parents house.

Your brother? Even worse. I can hear the guy choking already!

Oh please.  Now that he's a father he's gone soft!  I can't believe we're related in that regard.

God I don't miss random VP visits.  My location for my previous job was always #1 or #2 regionally and we'd still get bozos popping in all the time.  Always thinking "We've been doing everything you ask, I don't care if you are smiling and laughing, leave us the hell alone."

I do "surprise" visits to my staff in Boston, DC, CHI, MIA and LA all the time.  but, my boss shouldn't be popping up in my office, since we don't exactly see eye-to-eye.  I guess he's extending the Olive branch.  :|

Weird. Good luck with that.

Why "weird"?

If he doesn't see eye to eye with you and just randomly pops in. That's all.  Maybe heard you spend all of your time on UO and really was checking up on you!

BTW it is one hell of a beautiful day in Cleveland right now. I am sitting on my front porch  at home in the breeze waiting for my boss to log off of IM, so that I can too.

Honestly I think he wants my office. We're on different floors and I refuse to move to his floor.  I wouldn't move for my old boss, who I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and I'm not moving now.  we dont see eye-to-eye because my area spends money.  We're not revenue generating on the front end.

For instance he wanted to know why 12.5 million dollars of clothes was spent on a particular movie [he didn't even know, some smartass said somethign to him about it.  Keep in mind this isn't coming out of my budget] and why I was hosting a lunch for the designers featured in the movie.

My old boss would salivate over the Creative.  This one....eh.

^ You probably bought all the clothes at that Barney's place.

This is all about business.  I dont mix business and my personal stuff.  Especially since the design houses featured in the movie will reap the benefits.

They should all be down on their knees thanking their lucky stars!

I'm not entirely sure what to say about this.....  Interesting at the very least.  I find it hard to believe that a high school senior is actually properly educated enough on both sides of the story to be standing this strongly against something, whether he or she be conservative or liberal......  My personal opinion is that she has been brainwashed by her family, but that's just my opinion.

High school kids THINK they are educated about everything, I don't find it surprising at all.  But I also don't doubt that the parents are right-leaning.  While I'm a leftie, I would have taken the opportunity to point out all the holes and problems in whatever it was I disagreed with instead of playing tattle and insisting on getting a different exam than everyone else. Gee, who is mature and ready for college, and who's a whiner who stamps their feet when they don't like something?

Um, yeah, the group that it says she's a part of, the K&N Patriots, say on their website that they are "a Missouri non-profit corporation whose primary activity is to engage in the nonpartisan education and communication of issues that its Executive Committee considers to be of concern to the community."  If you look at the pictures from their protests (http://www.k-n-patriots.org/rallyphotos.html), this is clearly not a nonpartisan education effort.

A teacher not following school policies is one thing.  However, I view this type of behavior as just an evolution of book burning.  Teachers shouldn't be afraid to use current events to help teach a lesson, especially at a high school level.

Well, I agree the kid probably could have just sucked it up and critiqued the persuasive ability of the movie (or used it as a thesis on how the Hollywood elites manipulate data/tug at heartstrings to covertly coerce mainstream American into accepting the radical liberal agenda).

That said, it's not like Michael Moore isn't a lighting rod. You either love him or hate him. Not many people take a neutral stance to him. In this day and age, it's pretty likely you were going to get flack from someone for using it as content in a classroom.

I've seen those and they are needed!

I think those are hilarious, and I've never even been to NYC!

I love that!

How about "people wandering around doing mostly nothing" and "people walking with a purpose and a destination"? In my experience walking through the Cleveland Clinic every day about half the people are taking a step every 2 or 3 seconds while looking around at the minimalist decor, and the other half are actually trying to get somewhere, pushing past and jumping over these vortexes of glacial expedience.

Me!

I wasn't. I am now. Thanks. Why was I not informed of this earlier!

Hmm I haven't heard from my wife all day, now I know where she has been.

Thing No. 1 and Thing No. 2 have been playing all day.  All I hear is that damn pac man noise and their laughter.

I ask Thing No. 2 to find out who the hell installed pac man on everyone computer and lean over his desk and hes playing. Then he tells me its on google and that was around Noon.  Everyone in the office knew, but me.  :(

Seeing a news update pop up about network admins shutting down access to google.com this morning was quite surreal.

Haha that's awesome!! I love pac man.

At a company where I used to do tech support in the 90s, they used OS/2 as their operating system and it installed with various games including solitaire. At the time there were almost 3,000 PCs spread around the company, mostly for data input and customer service (account info inquiries). One of the top-ranking execs got on the warpath about too many people wasting too much time on solitaire, and put out an edict that we would not install the games on any new systems that we loaded, and uninstall them whenever we encountered them on a service call.

One day that exec called tech support because his PC wouldn't boot. He was out of his office when I got there, and the fix only took a few minutes. I booted it up, and the first thing that loaded from his startup folder was solitaire! I pondered for a moment as to whether I ought to remove it per his edict, and thought, "Nah!"
