Too lazy to find the pet peeve thread. Latest in my on going kitchen renovation. I bought a set of cabinets from the Kraftmaid outlet and then went to Lowes to order the remaining cabinets, including a double oven cabinet for the wall oven/micro/warming drawer that I am installing.

Soooooo Kraftmaid sends the delivery guy alone because his helper called off yesterday and the double oven cabinet gets left on my porch instead of in the dining room (which is the staging ground for the kitchen renov currently). My neighbor and I got to move the cabinet in the house last night. Grrrrr. I ok'd him leaving it on the porch because I was at work and got the phone call. I knew I could get it in.

I am letting the wife handle this one since we paid for delivery. She's a bigger b!tch than I ever can be and we will get some sort of compensation.

I don't know about Kraftmaid, but in my experience Lowe's has been very good about ensuring customer satisfaction. Usually they prefer to give store credit in the form of a gift card unless I'm returning a defective product with a receipt, but that's fine by me; I spend so much time and money in that store that some of the cashiers know me by name and recently one of them thought I was an employee.

Lowes in general is very good to deal with. I am sure that it will get resolved but I was just annoyed. It gets tricky when you pay lowes of HD but the actual delivery or work is done by another party (or at least its that way with HD)

The main Kraftmaid plant is Middlefield (also there is one in Utah) which is a little under an hour from my house so I am pretty sure the delivery guy was an actual Kraftmaid employee. Actually there was a caller ID from them around 6:30 while I was out walking the dogs so I think they were checking on us.

im am shocked...shocked! to find out they quickly caught the bouquet bandit

Nipped in the bud

Cops collar the 'bouquet bandit'

NY Post: William C. Lopez

PETAL PUSHER: Edward Pemberton, in custody yesterday, allegedly robbed banks armed with flowers, as seen on Page 1 of Tuesday's Post. He works -- where else? -- in the Flower District.

So much for a romantic ending.

The bouquet bandit was busted yesterday on charges of robbing a Chelsea bank bearing flowers -- and linked to at least five other robberies, including another in which he carried roses up to a teller's window, authorities said.

Cops have since matched the prints from the roses to the pink tissue wrapping that was around the stunning bouquet of African daisies, gladiolas and chrysanthemums he left with a teller during his most recent heist, in Chelsea last week, police said.

Edward Pemberton, a 44-year-old druggie ex-con, was busted hiding out in a basement closet in a relative's house in Bedford-Stuyvesant a day after The Post ran a photo of him on Page 1.

Dear nurses i spoke with today: 1) no i don't agree that the city should spend more money on cops and not renovate the "camp washington" park; 2) it's not Camp Washington Park, it's Washington Park...right downtown next to Music Hall; 3) there's plenty to do downtown; 4) Newport isn't actually doing that awesome, nor is it that awesome to begin with...it has a movie theater, that's about it.

We are also going to be renoving the kitchen, and also got most of our items from the Kraftmaid Outlet (which is a crazy, crazy place.  I cant begin to describe what waking up at 4:30am to drive to Youngstown to wait until 8 and make quick @ss choices on cabinets does to the mind).  I need to take before and after, and during, pics.  it should be a crazy transformation.

Seems like everyone is doing a Kitchen reno?

OMG, we just got 7 inches of rain between 6:30 and 7:30 tonight...and it's been raining ever since.  We're up to 9.25 inches now and it's STILL pouring.

These are pictures from the first hour (all pictures are from jsonline.com):

This is the freeway in downtown Milwaukee

flood23p2a.jpg

This is what every street looked like at the beginning.  The street in front of the store I was working at was worse...we must've had 2-3ft of water flowing past us and it trapped us inside.

flood23p8.jpg

Right after the initial surge hit, most of our manhole covers burst off

flood23p5.jpg

Here you can see water flowing out of the sewers.  I saw this happen in front of my store too.

flood3.jpg

A few blocks away, a giant sinkhole opened up and ate an Escalade.

mjs-sink-hole.jpg

Here's a picture of the freeway at about 10pm.  I'm glad everybody made it off alright.

It's been one hell of a night here and I'm NOT looking forward to tomorrow.  It appears that every building in the county flooded.  All of my friends and I have flooded basements, our store flooded, and I just got an e-mail from the university that says the majority of buildings on campus, check back in the morning for new room assignments.

What a day.

Ahh, and here come the videos.  Thank God for YouTube.

This is what EVERY street in the city looked like for a couple of hours this evening:

Note that these are definitely not low-lying areas.  All that water came from the sky in 1 hour and it's all flowing downhill.  I'm worried about downtown where Milwaukee's three river come together before going to Lake Michigan.

This is what it looked like outside my store:

Holy shit!! That is insane.  That photo of the Escalade in the sink hole is amazing.  It looks so tiny. The last video.. Those guys must have been nuts.  That current looks so strong.  I hope everything works out alright.

Where is Noah when you need him???

Wow, that is unbelievable!  Were there a lot of injuries?

Crazy storm. Wow.

Wow!

I the last video, irony is pretty much defined by the guy up to his chest in floodwaters and carrying an umbrella.

I was planning to come to Milwaukee in the near future to update my photo collection; my most recent visit was for the SSP forum meet in March 2005, on a cold, cloudy, wet day alternating between freezing drizzle and snow flurries. I think I'll postpone the visit until business get cleaned up and damage gets repaired. That might take a while.

Wow, that is unbelievable! Were there a lot of injuries?

I haven't heard of any flood related injuries.  The guy in the Escalade is fine.  There were two people that got struck by lightning and died last night though.

Can anybody tell me why the stoplights did that in the last video?  Is it because the control box shorted out or something?

Wow!

LOL

I'm glad there doesn't seem to be any deaths or injuries associated with this flood though I feel bad for people who don't have this damage covered by their insurance.

Most likely, those gays always cause a bunch of problems.

No, don't postpone anything.  Things will be cleaned up (businesswise) by next week.  You'll probably see more road construction than usual (as the storm killed our sewer system) but none of that will change the fact that Milwaukee is non-stop fun in the summer.

This is something I don't understand.  The sewers have been doing this all day.  It's really hot outside, so I don't think it's steam.  It smells like burning paper.  Does anybody know what would cause this?  I know Milwaukee has district heating downtown but I'm not sure that's related.

mjs-steam_-nws_-jk.jpg

Is it just water vapor? Fog?

Wow!

Flooding usually is not covered by insurance when it comes to buildings.  You have to purchase flood insurance, and it's extremely expensive and covers little.  It will be interesting to see how this is handled.  Auto insurance can cover flooding, though.

The lone figure among clouds of vapor in the otherwise-deserted, wet street gives that photo an intriguing, apocalyptic feel. Some fine-tuning and possibly grayscaling might make an interesting exhibition print.

In this morning's paper there was an AP photo looking down on the sinkhole with the Escalade at the bottom. Some barricades were down there, too. I wonder if the area already had been closed off as hazardous for some reason, and the driver either ignored the barricades or didn't see them in the downpour, and drove where he wasn't supposed to.

Those barracades have just been moving around that intersection all year.  There was a massive fire on the NE corner a few months back that closed the intersection for a week, then they had the street going west closed for a few days to work on a new UWM dormatory (then they left it up to alert people that the shoulder has been closed)  Then they did some sewer work a block down and closed off the intersection two blocks west for a couple of weeks.  And now this.  I think those particular barricades say, "Caution Shoulder Closed Ahead"

People around here think that intersection is cursed, and with good reason.

First, are you OK???  How have you been affected?

Oh yeah, I'm fine.  The only way I've been affected is by the sudden increase in potholes everywhere.  I almost died on my bike yesterday morning.  My basement flooded (just like everybody else's) but I'm a renter so it's not my problem.  I've been helping a lot of my friends clear out their basements though.  It was sewage back-up so everything is toxic.  They told residents that all flood damaged items go on the curb of the street, and all "normal" garbage goes in the alley.

I can't imaging coordinating the DPW in an event like this.

Agreed, but the umbrella needs to go.  During the apocalypse, people won't carry umbrellas, they'll carry guns.  Or axes, if they're out of bullets.  Or maybe just a blood stained 2x4 with some bent rusty nails in it.

Today, they flipped the switch and the Chicago River began to flow towards the lake.  It went from a beautiful green color to a vile barf brown/orange color.  You could see all this garbage and floating raw sewage heading to the lake.  What a bad weekend to do this since people will probably want to swim in the lake.

The feds regulate how much water is drained from the lake by the Chicago river.  If they approach quota, they are required to change the river's orientation so that it flows out to the lake.  It also raises the level of the river a few feat.

Did you snap any pictures of this "feat"?  ;)

MTS, you are not allowed to do any grammar policing!

Having an argument, does a 20s single straight man wear this tie to a wedding?

p1010014ok.th.jpg

Sure, why not?  I can't see the pattern very well but unless it's little dicks or something, I say yes.

RnR did you bail on Lilith Fair?

I did. I gave away the tix at work.

As long as you have the suspenders, belt, jacket liner and shoes to match. You got to coordinate!

Is it sad that the first thing I thought of when I saw that tie picture was ball-and-stick molecular models?

Lol it does look like that.

Alrighty, I've just always been averse to this tie because it's literally a rainbow and a bit busy with the shapes.

Here's a closer look, just in my haste I forgot to scale it down and didn't want to expand the margins of the thread several inches to the right.  So I just put the thumbnail up.

I think that tie needs to be locked up in the 80s/90s tie vault, never to be worn again.

All rainbows do not mean gay.  I think it's a fine tie.  I mean, it's not my favorite or anything, but it's all right.

I don't know if it's a "fine tie" but if you like it wear it.

It gave me vertigo when I looked at the full size pic....also took me back to HS Homecoming Dance freshman year (1992) match that tie with a colored shilk shirt and some Z. cavarichi pants and you would have been the sh!t.

lolz.  I meant "fine," but nothing more.

There is no issue with straight men wearing ties.  THAT tie however is an attention grabber, and not in a good way.  Why do you own such a thing?

That tie was given to me, and that person is trying to argue why I should wear it.  I've never liked it, and it's been sitting in the closet for 10yrs after being worn once.

In other news I came across this mood ring like video concerning twitter activity throughout the day.  The first thing I notice is Indiana seems to retain negativity throughout the day compared to other states.
