I got one of those vicks nasal sprays and was surprised at how well it worked so I looked at the active ingredient and you know what it said? LevoMethAmphetamine. Well, P&G labels it levometamfetamine but its the same thing. I looked up the chemical structure of meth though and its DextroMethAmphetamine so basically the two chemicals are mirror images/opposite of each other. Isn't it weird how the two chemicals can be so similar yet one has extreme abuse potential and the other has none at all? Though I bet Meth addicts never have to worry about congestion haha. Im surprised they didnt ID me when I bought it. I get IDed for pseudofed but not levomethamphetamine?! Sounds easy to synthesize into meth if one were so inclined. It seems like Walmart IDs me for everything now. I got IDed for buying rated R movies and Engine Degreaser. I asked the casheir why they need my ID I guess people huff engine degreaser but hell I dont think most people would think to get high from it until they get carded!

I remember writing a report on substance abuse and in a lot of cities , the drugs that produced the most admitted patients to rehabilitation centers and ERs were right over the counter. It's like they only ban the less popular stuff. In Los Angeles, it was like Nyquil, alcohol and some sleep medication at the top. You know, one of those pills from the commercial where they're like, "ask your doctor about [insert drug here] then one year later you see a commercial from some law firm, "have you or your loved ones taken [insert same drug here] - call us for your cash settlement" and my God, the disorders, diseases birth defects or other conditions are insane. I'm so glad that when I was 16 I opted for Retin-A Micro instead of Accutane for Acne. My doctor put me on Zoloft back then too. I want my cash settlement for the doc making me turn into a brain-dead, suicidal Zombie with pre-mature ejaculation for a month and a half. How do you get undepressed with a symptom like that?! Seriously.

... I asked the casheir why they need my ID I guess people huff engine degreaser but hell I dont think most people would think to get high from it until they get carded!

I think there's a limit to how far society should go in protecting people from themselves. Our long-standing practice of thwarting Darwin has given us a generation that buys into Tea Party doctrine.

Maybe huffing engine degreaser would have helped.

I'm so glad that when I was 16 I opted for Retin-A Micro instead of Accutane for Acne

I had to take Accutane five times, and no doubt it's one of the harshest drugs ever legalized in the United States. It makes you insane, stunts your growth, weakens your bones (I couldn't lift weights and had lots of back pain), thins/changes the texture of your hair, completely dries out your eyes, kills your night vision, affects your digestion, affects your hearing, etc.

Still, I don't have any regrets about taking it. It was the only thing that worked and prevented my scarring from becoming completely disfiguring. I had hundreds of giant cysts that would last months all over my face, neck, chest, and back. Accutane got rid of them around the the third round, and the fourth and fifth rounds killed them for good. I haven't had anything come back since then, but still have dry eyes and terrible night vision. Taking Accutane prevented at least 75% of the permanent scarring that I would have faced if I let nature take its course. I was looking at a pretty miserable and lonely life if I didn't do anything to stop the cysts. Deep scars were starting to show on my face (I also have keloid scars on my back).

I didn't have a single date in high school and had girls back out on dances, etc. It was very clear my cysts were the problem. I can only imagine how bad my life would be had I not taken Accutane. The drug should only be used in the worst cases, but it needs to be available. Retin-A can't do anything for severe cystic acne. Accutane is the only thing that works for the worst cases. In that sense, it's the greatest drug ever made. It gives you a chance at a normal life. The FDA should never ban it. It prevents a lot more suicides and murders than it causes.

Man Retin-A took off atleast 3-4 layers of my skin. It seemed pretty powerful to me. Talk about uncomfortable. Lotion was my best friend when I took that stuff. Layers of your skin just peel right off and you have to generate tons of new skin cells. I dont know how well it works for cysts though, if at all. My stepdad got prescribed it off-label as like an anti-aging cream its so powerful. When your skin is damaged from scratching it over time or whatever, you get extra layers of rough hard skin built up I guess making you look older. That Retin-a stuff is so strong I'd have nightmares about putting it on and looking in the mirror seeing nothing but a skeleton with teeth and muscle tissue lol!

Rob I like you more and more every day. I'm sick of everything being an 'epidemic' and I really think the laws and media hype that surround the control of chemicals ultimately does more harm than good on many levels. They should also stop blaming chemicals on people's behavior. According to the news last night, food coloring is responsible for ADHD in kids who are bouncing off the wall. I feel like I grew up wired to expect constant stimulation. Video games, tv/movies, music, computers, phone. Every whippersnapper acts out to get the adrenaline going to make up for lack of stimuli available. I can't believe those researches didn't catch a link between food coloring additives and high levels of sugar in everything they add color to. Bah!

I think ADHD is mostly the fault of cultural changes and the degradation of families and public education. People growing up today expect constant stimulation and distraction. How many kids eat dinner with their family while the TV is turned off? I never did. Of course people in broadcast news blame it on food coloring. They can't shoot themselves in the foot by blaming it on television! They need your ass glued to the tube.

All this obsession with "multi-tasking" in the working world isn't helping either. The jack of all trades is the master of none. We live in a country where your are expected to do more than one thing at a time. That requires a division of attention.

^ Multitasking lowers your I.Q. by 10 points; being stoned only reduces it by 3. Frankly, I think multitasking lowers it even more -- people (especially men) can go from fully-functioning humans to mush-brained cretins in mere seconds when faced with multiple stimuli.

Where did you hear multitasking lowers IQ 10 points? That sucks.

Local TV news; I'm pretty sure it was in Columbus, but it may have been Cincinnati.

I never even heard of Retin-A until I read your post. There is no way I would trust something that is supposed to improve your skin that is consumed in tablet form. That SEEMS like it would be harsh on your body and cause problems. Luckily I never had really bad acne. A little Neutrogena Power Scrub, and I was good to go.

On a somewhat related note, I remember taking a fish oil supplement that caused my skin to itch when my body temperature rose, such as from running or playing sports. I still take it, but just a different brand.

As a kid, my mom would sometimes make me swallow a spoon full of cod liver oil. That has to be some of the most disgusting sh*t that is capable of being consumed by humans - I'm about to vomit thinking about it...

I took Accutane twice, namely as a last resort. Both times, I experienced only dry eyes and some bone pain during intense cycling. I know others who became depressed taking it, or having serious drying of the skin.

Before that, I had tried many over-the-shelf products, and prescriptions, which did little to nothing to solve the acne. Diet changes? Check. All that good stuff. I even went in and had my skin peeled several times - until I had some of the peeling agent go into my eye, which caused some of the worst pain I've ever faced... IN MY EYE!!!

I get a few spots, here and there, but nothing like before. I try to control what I eat, but here is what I noticed has helped my skin:

1. A good, balanced diet more heavy in less processed fish. Sorry, Captain D's won't cut it.

2. Exposure to the sun and to the outdoors. My face seems to clear with each backpacking trip I make.

3. Exercise and sweat.

4. Natural/all organic soaps and shampoos, and little to no fragrance in any product - whether it is laundry soap or air fresheners.

HHS-Retin-a Micro is a topical cream, that's why I took it. It did do a great job taking away pimples. It's for extreme cases like with accutane but in topical form instead of pills.. I remember it being over 100 bucks for neosporin-size tube. I don't think diet matters when it comes to clear skin as long as you drink a lot of water. Hehe, HHS, you mean Omega-3 fatty acids? I took that when I was a gold member or whatever at GNC. Someone told me they took the fish oil version and smelled like fish whenever he would sweat haha.

Oh ok, my mistake. I did a quick Google search on "Retin-A" and a pill was the first thing I saw. That's insane though, 100 bucks for that small amount. As you mentioned, it seems like diet doesn't really make a difference, but I can agree on #'s 2 and 3 that Sherman Cahal mentioned. Going outside and "sweating it out" seems to make a significant difference from my experiences.

It's weird we're just talking about skin issues. This sh#t happened unexpectedly, some plastic accidentally burned at work and I went near it. My eyes were itchy and red, could feel it affecting my lungs all day. I woke up this morning and my eyes were swollen, red, crusty, burning and I've been rubbing them constantly since the incident but thought maybe allergies. I looked in the rear view mirror this morning and I have burns on the left side of my face. I stopped at the pharmacy and the pharmacist said it looks like a chemical burns. She said only thing over the counter is Benedryl and Aloe that you would use for sunburn, said I should go to Urgent Care to get it checked out. I'm wondering if I could force my employer to pay for the doctor bill and everything. Its Sunday and I cant get ahold of anyone unfortunately. I don't know what chemicals caused this sh!t but Im noticing my vision is blurry and I feel fatigued. I already can't stand being stared at, now I have to go in public looking like this.

Anyone ever had chemical burns? Are there different degrees of burning? I'm wondering how long it takes for the pain and burn marks to go away. Benedryl knocks me out and the last thing I feel like doing is putting any other chemicals near the eyes. Even the pharmacist said that might not be a good idea.

I would think workers' comp applies here. Why don't you contact your supervisor (do you have a personal phone number?) and tell them what's up? It doesn't seem like something you should wait on.

Maybe poke around on this website:

I agree with Rob. You should just go get treatment. (I may not have been clear enough when I said "It doesn't seem like something you should wait on.")

v

Dammit David! Get medical attention now! You should have done it immediately after the accident. Combustion products from some plastics can cause permanent and progressive lung damage that can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. People inhale hot steam or gases and/or fumes from burning plastic in car wrecks or industrial accidents and think they're OK after a little while, and then in a day or two they find themselves in serious trouble and hospitalized in critical condition. You see what that did to your skin? If you inhaled it, you can bet it did they same thing in your respiratory system.

Edit: I don't mean first thing in the morning. I mean now!

I just got back from the ER but they only looked at my skin and ran test on my eyes. 2nd degree burns all around my eyes and first degree around most of my face; basically worse the closer to my eyes. I had problems focusing in during the vision test. They want me to see an eye doctor now. Strange, the doctor didn't ask me about respiratory issues.

Didn't anybody even use a stethoscope to listen to your breathing?

No he didn't :( Just my vitals and a machine that could allow him to examine my eyes better. He put all these drops of stuff in my eyes; I felt like that dude in Clockwork Orange when they pried his eyes open and made him watch violence lol. I would have went sooner but I had no idea it was that serious until I woke up this morning. Before that, symptoms  were like bad allergies.

Soooooo excited.  I just had my cell phone company change my # with a 216 area code!  YAY!

Ah, trying to evade guys from the past? So whats your new number?  ...just kidding hehe. Maybe you have good reason but I hate when people change their numbers. It's so easy to keep your old one even if you change carriers! In fact, I think they have to by law. Instead of calling or facebooking everyone to let them know the new one, just make one phone call to Verizon, Sprint, Virgin Mobile or whoever you have and they will have all incoming calls from your old account forwarded to the invisible number the new carrier assigns you. It's like putting in a change of address and having your mail forwarded, but it lasts forever.

^^I miss having a 216 number..........when i was a kid that's what we had in the Warren area too. About 15-20 years ago they stuck us w/330, which is fine, but now all new numbers around here start w/234! Yuck, glad i have my 330 and i'm keeping it. My brother moved to NC maybe 5 years ago and he still has a 330 number. :)

You ain't nothin unless you rock the 2-1-2!! Holla!

[for the record...I ain't nothin]

I remember growing up in upstate NY that everyone was all bent out of shape when they changed us from 914 to 845, and gave the far superior 914 to Westchester County. Those hoity toity so and so's ! Who do they think they are?? Oh, sure, they've got the Greater Westchester County Fair (rides and attractions! Non-stop action!) but that doesn't make them better than us!

Amazing the prestige we place on a couple digits. That said, I like my 216 cell number. I'm not giving it up.

Yay! The sequel is coming out!!!

It's a numerical fact.

^ So did I. I was the CSA vs MSA post.

Haha, you don't expect general sports fans to discuss something like that. I just pictured a fight breaking out at the bar in BW3s during a game over the relevance of commuting patterns haha!  That would be something to behold.

I'm stunned by how good the maintenance in my apartment building is.  They were doing rounds today to clean A/C filters and put new batteries in smoke detectors in all the units.  They ended up noticing the old lock on my door and replacing it with a brand new bolt lock.  My window screen was repaired, which could have easily gone unnoticed, and they replaced a cracked tile in the bathroom.  Probably why this 85 year old building still looks good after all these years.

The only thing I need now is a new radiator valve, which will get repaired in the summer.

That's impressive. Clearly there's an owner who recognizes the importance of maintaining the value of the investment. I've seen so many good, old buildings that were allowed to deteriorate by owners who milked them for cash flow while putting as little money as possible into them.

We have a pretty good maintenance team too, but they are terrible with any kind of suite upkeep. Like, they do the annual smoke detector battery swap and furnace filter cleaning. They are replacing a roof on the building next door and I think more roof work is to come on other buildings. They spray for bees around the (wooden, attractive to bees) carports, they put out traps for the raccoons, who get in your car engine and chew up wires (happened to mr. RNR - he opened the hood when the car wouldn't start one day and there was a coon in there!), etc. We did get our carpet replaced after a few years, but we had to call and ask for it, we had no idea we were "eligible" for a free replacement carpet after X years. But we asked for a repaint job on all the main/non-bedroom rooms and they did a horrible, horrible job and it looks worse now than before. We asked for the bathroom to be re-done as the tub caulking and grout was permanently moldy in some places no matter what we did to clean it and the finish had worn off the tub bottom so it always looked gray, and the replacement job they did was horrible. They just painted a white coating over everything, which is already starting to peel, and the caulking job they did looks like it was done by my 2 year old son. I'd be embarrassed to even have anyone come over and use the bathroom with how crappy it looks.

^ Yikes.  I wonder what kind of paint they used?  I know the painters in our building have been apparently working on the apartments for almost 20 years.  A few apartments got gut rehabs.  They had everything stripped to the gypsum block.  They try to avoid the major renovations.  All the apartments have a ton of plaster moulding and they have to replace it with the same stuff.  It used to be an extended stay hotel, so there's alot ornamentation .  Apparently they still make all of it today, but it comes at a cost.  Their biggest project this year was replacing all the common brick on the east wall and switching over all our telecom from cable to fiber-optic, which involved cutting holes in everyone's walk in closets to get to the cable chases.  A big improvement, makes me NOT miss the days of having Comcast

The only time I'll get hell from my landlord is if I chip the porcelain tub from harsh cleaners.  I have to buy a special cleaner for that.

Another big earthquake hit Japan. Like a 7.4 or something like that which means more tsunamis. These phone calls are too expensive and my grandma can't be bothered to download Skype. They need to just move back here but my grandpa makes too much money over there. The church they go to is practically obliterated it was damaged so badly. My grandma said theyre rationing water (12 ounce of bottled a day) and rice. Said her biggest complaint of all is that she can't buy yogurt. Hah.

I want to advertise this thread for people who aren't from the Cincinnati area who typically don't look at Cincinnati-interest threads on here. It's really an amazing photo thread, regardless of your interest in the subject city. Paradox deserves every user of UrbanOhio checking out his masterpiece.

Rob it's too bad you don't have grandkids. I spent all day at my grandparents house doing landscaping; their yard is all messed up because they abandon it all winter when they go to Florida. They got 7 hours of hard labor out of me since I can't work yet from the burns. They thrive on the whole "I have a bad back" thing haha; knowing I'll help them out. They told me "never get old". I said, "Ill get old but I'm living in a CONDO not on an acre of land full of pear and apple trees with dead braches everywhere and a creek running through it all dammed up and suffering from erosion!"

I'm waiting for Paradox's Deeetroit photos

Paradox is a talented individual. I've been wondering since someone accused me of being an alcoholic as a result of this: Does ordering nothing but shots at the bar make you an alchy? Now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the point of going to a bar is to get drunk and why wouldn't you want to get to your destination more quickly? I'm so confused. Would you rather take a bullet train or Amtrak? It's common sense to me.

I never really thought of bars to be frequented for the sole purpose of getting drunk or 'hammered' although many people have that mindset. I more or less view a bar as a place to get a few drinks, socialize with friends and maybe watch a sporting event. I'm not really big on bars OR drinking now. The funny thing is, by the time I turned 21, I was starting to feel burnt out from getting "hammered." At that age, getting drunk was such a new and fun thing for a lot of my college friends, but it was something I did on a routine basis since about 16 or 17.

It doesn't make you an "alcoholic" unless you are unable to control your drinking.  Rather this is a question of whether you are binge drinker or not.  Of course this depends on:

Frequency

Number

You can compare shots to drinking beer.  The general rule, as defined by most states is 1 shot = 1 beer.  So the person sipping 3 beers for one night consumed the same amount as someone who took 3 shots.

But some people take shots because they are quick way to get alcohol in them.  That's why in a rush so many people pre-party with vodka because it's quick way to loosen up before they got out to a party or club.

I know some of us have already gotten our health assessment survey that will determine the health insurance rates we will pay based on our lifestyle.  One of the questions is how much and what you drink when you go out.  Obviously, people who drink too much, smoke, and overweight will pay much higher premiums

I heard that Vodka is what a lot of closet alcoholics drink because they think you can't smell it on them but I sure can, ha.  The most I drink is 3 shots or 3-4 beers otherwise the consequences are too bad the next day.

Here's some flawless advice for the day: If you're planning on spilling coffee all over your pants be sure that you are wearing dark brown or black pants.

Just wait until white pants come back. It'll be just like retirees at Cypress Gardens in 1986.

I'm going to bring them back in style this year.

The most I drink is 3 shots or 3-4 beers otherwise the consequences are too bad the next day.

Which on the survey response, is considered normal.  So basically, the chick that told you that talking bs

I don't like going by surveys; my general rule of thumb is that when the room starts spinning you messed up and drank too much. I think the last time I binge-drank was that St. Patrick's Day when I had all that green beer the night before you guys came to Cincy that morning and we went to Cincinnatus' house right before I vomited alll over Over-the-Rhine. What great timimg to meet new forumers! Ha!
