the good news is now MTS is officially old enough to start trolling around shopping malls in his Corvette looking to pick up teenagers.

I know longer have a car.  I gave it to my nephew and now its in the possession of my niece.  Since he is here for the summer (and I hope longer).

Sound advice. Twenty year olds aren't cute to make them objects of desire. They're cute to keep their parents from killing them because they won't get a job, start paying their own bills, and move out of the house.

I love it!

What happened to old Thing #1? You killed him, and fed him to your pet crocodile, didn't you.

There are two Thing No. 1s.  Original Thing No. 1 and New Thing No.1

Original Thing No. 1, was my first assistant when I started.  Then Thing. No. 2 came in 2001.  Fast forward to 2004.  When I came to my current position, I gave original Thing No. 1 a promotion; Thing No. 2 isn't a morning person and he was in school so he could move over to Thing No. 1 position.  So original Thing No.1 and Thing No. 2 had to hire New Thing No.1

So there is:

My Assistants

New Thing No. 1

Thing No. 2

I am at the gym on the elliptical machine and Good Morning America is on one of the Tvs. I was wondering why a RuPaul segment was on and then I realized it was Beyonce. What's with the heavy makeup and overblown do's?

LOL CBC.

I have a Q for you all. You have heard my complaints about the parking lot where I park my car. It seems several nights a week there are people partying there outside of the bars/clubs, because about 2 or 3 times a week when I arrive at 7, there are beer bottles and 40ouncer cans scattered about the lot, and at least one section of teeny tiny broken glass, indicating someone got their car window smashed in. I would say I see evidence of at least 3 car window smash-ups a WEEK. I don't think this activity is taking place in the day at all, and feel comfortable parking my car there in the daytime, but is there anything that can be done about this on a higher up level than the lot management? I have reported these incidents to them more than once, but all they do is send someone out to clean up the lot. I think they need to provide some patrols or presence in the lot at night, or install some cameras or something. I doubt the police would care much about this issue, so I'm just not sure to whom I could report the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Notify the owner of the lot, the city council person (i assume its cipperman), the police department.  Stress your concern for safety and the lack of maintenance and it's larger affect.  The affect that the lot is not safe and that it could give people - residents and tourist alike - the impression the entire area is unsafe.

How can I find out the owner of the lot? I have reported it to the folks who answer the phone on the posted phone number, but have no idea how to find out the owner's info.

And honestly, it kind of IS unsafe if that's what's happening there. It's not a false impression. I would not be parking my car there in the evenings under any circumstances. And this is a lot that has overnight rates as well!

Google perhaps?  Call and ask?

google isn't telling me much. I found a parent company but it's in NYC. I kind of doubt they care about a single lot in Cleveland.

Bingo. That is the problem right there.....Is the NYC company who is listed on the county site?

Not being all that familiar with Cleveland -- is there a neighborhood association or business owners' group, any kind of active civic group in the area? In many places they can bring attention to problems like that one and sometimes they can get pressure applied to the property owner or management company to take action.

I'm honestly not finding much at all about the company online other than a list of parking lots. I did find someone on LinkedIn who works for them locally so I sent a message to someone to ask me to connect them with that person so I can find out who to contact. Ridiculously cumbersome.

Why would you feel that way?  They should be responsible.  Don't put up (mental) borders. :)

Great point!

Ugh...lost $100 today doing a favor for a friend.

Background: my friend moved to Philly for work. She would sell her condo but she's been in a fight with them because they won't fix the roof and she has water damage all through the exterior walls. They claim other members of the HOA aren't paying their fees so they can't get the work done. She doesn't care because she's current on her fees.

So, she's suing...and paying her HOA fees to the court. Unfortunately, that has to be paid in cash on the first of the month and she lives in Philly. I'm doing it and she's paying me back.

Today, i go to the bank that's a block from the courthouse. I take out the $308 i need to pay (in large bills because it's easier and less obvious than carrying a wad of smaller denominations) and then walk the block over. While in line i start to take the stuff out of my pockets to make it easier to get through the metal detector. I get to the clerk of courts and i only have $208. The guard at the metal detector hasn't seen it, and no one in line handed me $100 and told me i dropped it (shocking, i know!). So, i had to go get another $100 out to cover the fees.

It's not my friend's fault that i lost the $100, but man does that suck.

There is a big difference between should and will.  This is also a similar problem with absentee landlords.  Hopefully RnR can get a hold of a person at the company with some authority to do something, but I imagine contacting Chiperman (pretty sure that's his ward) or getting a couple of local businesses to come together on this would be more effective.

oh man diaspora, no good deed goes unpunished I guess. You are truly a great friend to help out this way, and you have to trust it will be repaid back to you in some way other than just the money.

cimperman is on twitter, I will tweet him.

Yeah, i know. I could do a lot with that cash (video games, dvds, the two most recent Song of Ice and Fire books)...but, i'll survive without it. It's more that i'm just frustrated with myself for making that mistake. I thought about asking the teller for an envelope to put the cash in, but i'd not been to that branch and i didn't want to bother her since it was only a block. I put the cash in my front pocket and not in my wallet. i started to take stuff out before i got to the head of the line to speed things up. Just so many opportunities to not lose that $100.

I say write a complete letter, include pictures and video.  You have a smart phone or a camera?  Write out a thoughtful letter and send it to the owner of the lot, city council, the police department, the local development corp and cipperman. Write and send the letter first then Tweet/Facebook

I feel better already, my Sister-in-Law gave birth to a healthy baby girl this morning (8am PDT).

Seeing how Cle Crime discussion is locked, I will post this here - supposedly, a "flash mob" is being planned for Shaker Square tomorrow from 4 - 6.

I sent a detailed email to Cimperman instead of tweeting him. we'll see what happens.

Keep zooming in on the area of the city that you want to investigate. When you get close enough to see the parcel to you want to identify, then select identify and click on that parcel. A window with a link to the Cuyahoga County Auditor's data set on that parcel will open up. Click on that link. You will then see the owner's name at the top of the page. If the owner's name does not appear, then it means this parcel is linked to another nearby parcel (probably an adjoining parcel). Try clicking on adjacent parcels (some will even say "listed with parcel 123456") or select the red tab atop the auditor's page for "Taxes" where you will find the mailing address for the person responsible for paying the property taxes. Unfortunately this is sometimes an attorney or accountant.

Back in the CLE for the day

Thanks KJP. I didn't get an answer from cimperman so I tweeted him and he gave me a different email for him. I emailed him (on the holiday/yesterday!) and he forwarded it on to several people asking them to act on this, find out more and reply all. Very pleased and impressed. Will let you know what happens.

Great!  Hopefully your suggestions will benefit the community as a whole.

Well, when you combine this 'great new plan!!' that Netflix is instituting with the data caps by U-verse is sticking me with, I may end up having to continue to pay through the nose with the regular movie channels, rather than stream from Netflix.

Oh well, I can always borrow DVD's from the public library. No really. I meant that seriously. Stop laughing.

Yeah, I'll most likely be going down to DVD only or cancel altogether.

Cancel!  Do it now!!

I already bought the Apple TV box. I'm doing it.

On an unrelated note, how do you know you're getting old? Well, one indication might be when you make a Kojak reference to your assistant, and she stares at you blankly. Really....Telly Savalas? Who loves ya' baby? He was in the Dirty Dozen....no? Nothing??

On another unrelated note, I'm looking for a new assistant. I should cross post to the Career Networking thread.

I have two broken in assistants you can buy!

No thanks. I don't need the soulless eyes of the damned staring at me all day long.

Once you "condition" them, they're pussy cats!

Someone I know grew a big bushy mustache.  I told the group he looked like G. Gordon Liddy (a Great American, BTW). I got a smattering of laughter, but mostly "Who's that?"

That's getting old.

It's all about context. Did you mention that he guest starred on Airwolf? That should have brought it home for them. Ernest Borgnine and Jan-Michael Vincent, and that guy with the eye patch. That's TV gold.

Are you BSing?  Was this a hipster?  How are people this dense employed?

If he was a hipster, you should have just punched him in the face. THAT's what G. Gordon Liddy would have done!
