If he was a hipster, you should have just punched him in the face. THAT's what G. Gordon Liddy would have done!

I dressed up like the eye patch guy from Airwolf (Alex Cord, who played Archangel on the show) last Halloween. Nobody knew who I was.

I remember G. Gordon Liddy used to brag about this Corvette he had. He talked about the engine that he sent off to Italy to have it rebuilt for performance. What an idiot. The Italians cannot build a Chevrolet engine nearly as well as Americans can but they will charge you four times as much. That also meant the money left the country.

Well, when you combine this 'great new plan!!' that Netflix is instituting with the data caps by U-verse is sticking me with, I may end up having to continue to pay through the nose with the regular movie channels, rather than stream from Netflix.

Oh well, I can always borrow DVD's from the public library. No really. I meant that seriously. Stop laughing.

I've been away from the library for a few years since college.  I just checked the Chicago libraries website and eBooks are probably the biggest section of their site.  Wow have libraries changed

It's interesting how Cleveland Libraries do it. They have a limited number of electronic versions, so you have to go on a waiting list if someone else has checked out the book. I guess they have to treat them that way as a concession to the publishers. Otherwise, no one would ever buy a book again.

The selection is still somewhat limited

Watched the "The Fighter" last night, it was pretty enjoayable. Christian Bale was excellent. Watching him as the crack addict older brother I had a hard time even picturing what he looked like playing Bruce Wayne/Batman. Mark Walberg was very enjoyable as Mark Walberg character #1 (as opposed to #2, see I (heart) huckabees), it helps to have a script to fit your limitations.

two nights ago I tried watching "The Invention of Lying". I got about 40 minutes into it and turned it off. One of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Quite an ensemble cast for such a flop, too.

This further cements that Ricky Gervais isn't funny. He's right up there with Dane Cook and post Cosby Show Bill Cosby.

Dane Cook...arghh. I never got Dane Cook. I am impartial to Ricky Gervais, but I have never tried to watch a movie with him in it. Speaking of cultural blasphemy on my part. I find Russel Brand's stand up routine to be funny....even though he looks like a love child of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Bert from Sesame Street...

I've only seen Russel Brand do stand up once, and it was on an awards show (can't remember which), so it's not a fair forum to review him. I did think Get Him to the Greek was good...but that was largely Puffy Diddy Money's stuff.

I believe it was one of the MTV Movie awards or video awards, and that was mostly I am talking funny and in the UK this is funny schtick. He  wasn't very funny, not horrible but it was pretty forced.

God has there been anyone that has fallen so far on the funny scale as the Cos? His old albums are hilarious.

Oy! I watched him on Leno (so, you know, double the funny!) a month or two ago. He sat (SAT!) in a chair, and then just started rambling on some stream of consciousness nonsense. "Bwaaa, you know I was out here in the Hollywood, and people were walking by and I said what was that thing that girl was wearing with the fabric and the picture and a little boy said 'hey mister, you're sitting on my chair' bwaaaaa."

Seriously, that was his routine. I loved his stuff when I was younger. I wish he'd just go back to yelling at young people for wearing saggy britches.

Sounds painful...

An even 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius) at 4:45 p.m. I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription a little while ago, and walking across the asphalt parking lot was like walking through an inferno. Humidity is only 36%, or the misery probably would be even worse. I'm glad I have AC, and I ain't goin' out during daytime any more until this hot spell breaks.

pretty cool -- a solar powered nasa airplane:

A Flight of Helios

Image Credit: Carla Thomas, courtesy DFRC, NASA

Explanation: An example of solar-powered flight, NASA's Helios aircraft flew almost one hundred years after the Wright brothers' historic flight on December 17, 1903. Pictured here at 3,000 meters in in skies northwest of Kauai, Hawaii, USA in August 2001, the remotely piloted Helios is traveling at about 40 kilometers per hour. Essentially an ultralight flying wing with 14 electric motors, the aircraft was built by AeroVironment Inc. Covered with solar cells, Helios' impressive 247 foot wide wing exceeded the wing span and even overall length of a Boeing 747 jet airliner. Climbing during daylight hours, the prototype aircraft ultimately reached an altitude just short of 30,000 meters, breaking records for non-rocket powered flight. Helios was intended as a technology demonstrator, but in the extremely thin air 30,000 meters above Earth's surface, the flight of Helios also approached conditions for winged flight in the atmosphere of Mars.

^Training camp opens tomorrow, right? He's probably in Berea getting ready

True, but NYC is 1 hour away, via plane.  His agent and manager should be embarrassed, considering the press and use of his image at this event.

When I was back in CT in December, I told my parents they should visit Cincinnati, and that the last week in July would be a good time to visit because of the Macy's Music Festival. I told them this knowing they don't like travelling much and that they have not shown much interest in visiting Ohio. Well, I forgot I told them about visiting, and this morning my mother sent me a text saying they are flying in tomorrow......WTF! Now I need to clean the house and cut the grass, which I planned on doing Saturday. Knowing my mom, I know she probably intentionally gave such short notice and is at home grinning right now. It will be good however to have my parents here for a few days and spend time with them.

Then they should have held it in Cleveland. Piss on NYC.

I agree.  The FBHOF is the perfect venue for an event like this.

Yikes! That deserves a pet peeves entry!

Today, I really regret not trusting my gut and saying something.  I was on the lakefront trail bike path where it crosses some surface streets and gets really narrow.  I was behind a mother with her toddler in those small seat attachments behind her.

What upset me was she was going a little fast (for having a child) and kind of swerving back and forth.  I think if you are going to take a young child on a bike with you, at least have some coordination.  But it gets worse.

At the bottom.  She runs a red light....at a 4 lane one-way.  Two cars pass by on either side.  At that point I was going to tell her that as a mother, she should not be reckless, having a child on her bike and wait for the signal to change.  But I was worried I'd get the earful "Don't tell me how to be a parent b.s."  Which to be honest, I think is garbage.  Anyone in public should be able to call out bad parenting.

Well anyway, didn't do it, and when she was beginning to illegally cross the street at the next intersection, she missed the car coming, and slammed on the brakes.  She fell over sideways and the toddler smacked her head on the pavement.  She was fortunately wearing a helmet and ok.  But what an awful scene.  Seeing a bike laying down on the ground with the child still attached in the seat, screaming and in tears, head on the pavement.  I

f that was my child, I would never forgive myself.  Instead the mom tilts the bike back up "Oh she's fine, she's fine we'll be ok, smiling, and rides off...of course...not waiting for the signal to change.  Horrible.

If you feel so inclined please visit the following website at the link below and vote for "Dravets" to help Dravet.org, a very important support and advocacy organization that helps children and families dealing with Dravet Syndrome a severe childhood seizure disorder.  Yes, this is an advertising ploy for a company trying to sell stuff but it's totally anonymous and you don't have to read anything, link or post to Facebook or retweet, just click to vote.  Alternatively, check out this site for cooling mats for your bed/pillow.

Stretching before and after helps.  Also, do some light running up and down your stairs today to keep the muscles warm and so they wont get tight.

For me stretching before feels like a waste of time, however starting slow and warming up for a bit before really pushing myself works.

Um thats why people do a warm up and stretch before and a cool down stretch after.  I have to stretch after a game or I'm sore and tight as hell.

Yeah, warming up helps, but the stretching before you exercise isn't necessary.

And can actually be harmful.

And can actually be harmful.

some reports suggest there is no need for stretching before physical activity, so suggest you should.  I'm of the camp that thinks warmup and stretching before hand is important.

I heard experts are recommending something called "dynamic stretching".

I also heard you should not do dynamic stretching in public, should you wish to maintain an ounce of dignity.

Not what I said. Said it could injure you, not that it was deemed unnecessary.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36553174/ns/health-fitness/t/want-better-workout-dont-stretch/

I never stretch before weightlifting or cardio, but part of that is because I'm so deep into a heavy workout routine (2-3 hours a day) that my body doesn't get sore very often (or doesn't stay sore for very long). I've acclimated to high levels of physical activity. Screw stretching! It wastes time! In fact, the only thing that has made me badly sore lately is climbing the 460-foot Sleeping Bear sand dune on Lake Michigan.

After slowdowns (like winter), I find it helps to stretch a little. Once you already have strength and endurance, I don't think it's as big of an issue. No doubt it's overrated and certainly eats up time that would be better spent working, working out, or creeping on chicks while working out.
